The System Gave Everyone Superpowers

Shouts echoed from the woods near the river.

The remaining seven members of Class Three came rushing into the clearing, their hair soaked and their gear thrown on in a rush. They had been bathing in the nearby lake when the fight broke out. Seeing their leaders engaged, they charged straight at Mai and the paralyzed members of Class Four.

Seeing six new enemies sprinting toward them finally snapped Nelvin out of his fear.

"Get away from me!" Nelvin screamed, transforming his arms into pressurized whips of water and blasting two of the Class Three Heroes back into the trees.

Grace stepped up beside him. "Protect the team!" she said. But the moment a Class Three fire-type hurled a fireball at her, Grace grabbed two Class Four rookies and shoved them directly in front of her.

The fire exploded harmlessly against their armor.

Mai opened a spatial portal, warping a Class Three swordsman’s strike into a tree trunk. Gradually, the rest of Class Four snapped out of their panic and engaged in a full-blown brawl against Class Three.

I rapidly dropped the pressure above us and compressed the moisture in the air.

The sunny sky vanished, turning dark and overcast. The ocean air became stiflingly humid and thick with moisture.

Electro stopped walking toward me and looked up at the dark sky. "What are you doing, boy?"

I held my hand out toward the sky and spoke quietly.

"Let there be rain."

A light drizzle began to fall. Within five seconds, the drizzle turned into a heavy rain, and then into a torrential downpour. Water poured over the clearing in thick sheets, soaking the grass, the trees, and Electro’s forcefield.

Electro wiped the water from her eyes and let out a loud laugh. "Fool! I am an electric Hero! Water conducts my power! I am not scared of it!"

I looked at her through the pouring sheets of water. "You shouldn't be scared of rain. You should be scared of ice though."

Electro snarled, leaping high into the mid-air. Her forcefield flared with lightning as she pulled back her fist to blast me with a hundred thousand volts.

Freeze!

Because the torrential downpour had completely soaked her forcefield, her body, and the air around her in sheets of water, the temperature conducted instantly through every water molecule. Her electrical forcefield wasn't dense enough to resist the expansion of ice.

Electro was frozen completely solid mid-air inside a ten-foot block of ice. She fell out of the sky and skated onto the ground. She was trapped completely.

Up in the air, Koda finished his fight with Reverso.

Koda had drawn a timed trap. First, he drew a iron box around himself on his floating platform. Then, he drew a second iron box in the exact spot three seconds behind Reverso.

When Reverso raised his hand and used his Blessing to rewind time by three seconds to escape Koda’s attacks, he rewound himself straight inside Koda's drawn iron box.

Every time Reverso rewound time to escape, the loop placed him right back inside the sealed box. He was stuck in an infinite three-second time loop, panicking as he burned through his BP until his pool hit zero and he collapsed, unconscious.

Koda floated down on his drawn platform, wiping his fingers with a smooth smile.

Across the clearing, the rest of Class Four and Class Three were still locked in a messy brawl.

I turned around, wiped the rainwater off my face, and turned on my golden smile.

"Don't worry!" I shouted, running toward the fight. "Seasons will save the day!"

I was halfway across the clearing when a loud System chime echoed across the valley.

The seven remaining members of Class Three had forfeited upon seeing their leaders defeated. A bright blue light enveloped all of them, along with Electro and Reverso.

In a split second, Class Three was teleported off Santa Rosa Island by the System.

I skidded to a halt as a flood of gold notifications exploded in my vision.

Because I had defeated Electro—who was more than double my level—the System awarded me an absurd amount of experience points. Koda got a massive chunk as well for taking down Reverso.

I had hit Level 70, and my Rank had jumped from 991 up to 876.

Fighting a Level 158 electric hero had taught me a clear lesson: when facing high-level threats, speed and reaction time were everything. If you can't dodge, you die.

I dumped all fifty points straight into Agility.

Agility: 50 -> 100

The moment I confirmed the choice, a cool sensation shot down my legs and spine. My body felt weightless. My perception of the world around me slowed down. With my Agility at one hundred, I was faster than I had ever been in my life.

Across the clearing, Class Four was catching their breath. Everyone checked the live scoreboard.

We had officially moved up from fourth place to third place, knocking a senior class completely out of the exam.

Maybe Koda was right after all, I thought. Hunting the senior classes gave us thousands of points in minutes. It's much faster than sitting in a cave.

The rush of victory quickly faded, leaving the rest of Class Four completely spent.

Brock was still unconscious. Nelvin, Grace, and the other rookies were almost completely out of BP.

Mai stepped forward. "I have just enough BP left for one big portal back to the plateau. Everyone get together."

Nelvin and another rookie picked up Brock’s body, and we all crowded around Mai. She waved her hand, ripping open a gateway.

We stepped through, landing back inside our cave.

I quickly thawed a small section of the path, let everyone inside, and then refroze the trail solid.

The class slumped against the walls, gasping for air. Brock was laid out on a wooden bench.

We needed to rest.

Only a couple of seconds passed when a scream pierced the quiet.

It was Grace.

Everyone scrambled to their feet and rushed over to the corner near the water basin.

Lying passed out on the floor was an unknown woman wearing a green-and-white Hero suit.

"How the hell did she get in here?" A student growled, squinting at her. "The path up the cliff is a solid fucking block of ice!"

Koda walked over slowly, looking down at the unconscious woman.

"What do we do with her, leader?" Nelvin asked nervously, backing away.

"We interrogate her when she wakes up," Koda said. He raised his finger and quickly drew a pair of handcuffs in the air. The metal materialized, and he securely bound her wrists and ankles to a pillar.

A couple of hours passed. Class Four rested by Koda’s fireplace, eating leftover meat and recovering their depleted BP.

Finally, the woman groaned and stirred on the floor. She opened her eyes and panicked, thrashing against her cuffs.

"Please! Don't hurt me!" she cried, her voice shaking.

"Name and class," Mai ordered.

"I'm Selena Sam!" the woman stammered, tears welling up in her eyes. "I'm from Class Two! Please, I don't want any trouble!"

"How did you find our base?" I asked.

"My Blessing is an A-Tier vision ability," Selena explained quickly. "It improves my eyesight so I can see through solid objects. I saw the cave through the mountain and bypassed your icy path by using the hollow crevices inside the cliff wall, but I ran out of BP and passed out from exhaustion."

She looked at us with terrified eyes. "I was sent to capture a strategic spot for Class Two, but after a huge fight in the jungle, my team completely abandoned me! I begged them not to leave me, but they didn't care! Please don't punish me!"

Class Four immediately started arguing about what to do with her.

"Oh, the poor thing!" Grace said, putting her hands over her heart. "She was abandoned! We should just unlock those mean handcuffs and let her go!"

"Let her go?" Nelvin said, his face twisting. "Fuck that! She knows where our base is! We should break one of her legs so she can't crawl back and tell Class Two where we live!"

"Breaking limbs is barbaric, Nelvin," Mai said, shaking her head. "We aren't savages. Just drop her off at the coast on the other side of the island and leave her there."

"What about you, Seasons?" Koda said. "What does our second in command think we should do?"

Fuck, I cursed under my breath. He always puts me on the spot.

I took a deep breath, stepped forward, and smiled.

"Guys!" I announced, waving my hand. "We are Heroes! We shouldn't break limbs or abandon people! We should personally escort Miss Selena back to Class Two's camp as a sign of true sportsmanship!"

In reality, escorting her back was a Trojan horse play. By "returning" her, we could locate Class Two's hidden base without wasting hours tracking them.

Koda let out a laugh. "Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. As soon as night falls, we will escort Selena back to her team."

The rest of the class looked at us in complete shock.

"Are you crazy?!" Nelvin stammered. "Walking right into Class Two's territory at night is way too fucking risky!"

Nobody else however in Class Four challenged our decision.

"Rest up, everyone," Koda smiled, drawing a small chair for himself. "We move at sunset."
