Chapter 130: Chapter 130: The Calculated Collision

000 chuckled, [At first I thought you were so innocent, I even wondered why he chose you. Who would have expected... you really know how to resort to any means necessary.]

"Do not speak as if I am a terrible person." Lucien replied, not bothering to ask who the "he" 000 mentioned was. It could be 000’s host server, or perhaps that primary personality that had not appeared in a long time, but it did not really matter. He turned off his laptop and walked towards the bed. Lucien glanced out the window next to his bed for a moment; the night city here was quite beautiful. The lights were dazzling, bustling and prosperous, but it was a pity that he was the only one in this small room.

"Tomorrow, I do not want to play the weak role anymore. Being kind and good-natured makes people like you, but kindness does not equate to weakness. Weakness is only good for attracting eccentric lunatics, while in this world with no money and no backing, pretending to cry has absolutely no value." Lucien chuckled softly, "000, what do you think about a hardworking, clumsy intern who accidentally bumps into the boss? Sounds decent, doesn’t it?"

[That sounds too much like those cheap office romance movies.] 000 mocked.

"Well, isn’t this world just a cheap movie?" Lucien replied, then turned off the lights.

The next morning, Lucien arrived at the company at 8:30 as usual. He wore a crisp white shirt, black trousers, and polished leather shoes. There was nothing outstanding about it, but it was not sloppy either, an absolutely perfect look for the role of a "hardworking intern".

Throughout the morning, he continued doing the miscellaneous tasks assigned to him. Ethan did not send any emails today, but Howard still called him out to make coffee. Lucien did it all with a relaxed mindset, without any complaints or annoyance. It was just that around 9:30, he started paying attention to the clock.

[Hey, twenty minutes left.] 000 reminded him, its voice whispering in Lucien’s head, [Are you trembling?]

"Trembling for what?" Lucien replied, his eyes still glued to the screen.

[Well, you are about to touch the handsome CEO. Is your heart beating faster? After all, he is the person you will be sleeping with in the future.]

"My heart only beats faster when I am about to complete a mission and get to go home." Lucien turned off his computer and stood up. "As for these kinds of tasks, I do them like a machine."

[How heartless.]

"Shut up."

He grabbed a stack of documents from his desk and walked towards the photocopier at the end of the hallway. The documents were some test prints for the new advertising project, things that Sarah had asked him to copy this morning. A perfect excuse to be in the hallway at this exact moment.

The photocopier hummed steadily, spitting out each page evenly. Lucien stood waiting to the side, looking as if he was attentively counting the pages, but in reality, his eyes occasionally darted toward the elevator. It was about 9:55 now, only about five minutes left.

Lucien instinctively took a deep breath, inexplicably feeling a bit nervous. It was obvious that the plan had been meticulously calculated, yet Lucien was still quite anxious.

Ultimately, he was still a young man, a youth who had not yet experienced much of the world but had to act as a pretender in all sorts of ways.

The "ding" of the elevator rang out.

The doors slid open, and Damian Thorne stepped out.

Today he wore a dark grey suit with a neatly tied cravat, his hair styled flawlessly as always. His strides were swift and decisive, exactly the style of a man who had no time to waste. Damian walked towards Meeting Room 2, just as 000 had predicted.

Lucien counted the rhythm of Damian’s footsteps, slowly moving. He hugged the freshly printed stack of documents, turned around, and stepped out of the photocopier area, his eyes still looking down at the papers as if checking something. His angle of vision was just enough to see Damian’s silhouette approaching.

And then, right as Damian walked past, Lucien took a slight step to the left.

His shoulder collided with Damian’s.

The documents in his hands fell to the floor, white pages scattering all over the corridor. Lucien stumbled back a step, his face paling slightly. Of course, he did not have the skill to change his complexion on command like that. It was primarily because Damian was walking too fast; the impact was quite hard, making Lucien’s shoulder genuinely ache.

"Ah... I am so sorry!" He bowed deeply, his voice full of panic: "I was not paying attention... I apologize!"

The man in front of him also stopped due to the collision. He did not stumble like Lucien; with a physique as sturdy as a bull, why would Damian fear bumping into someone as paper-thin as Lucien? The man merely frowned, glancing over the pile of papers on the floor, then rested his gaze on an employee he did not recognize, only seeing the young man frantically bending down to pick up every single page.

"Which department are you from? Oh, I think I saw you once yesterday, didn’t I?"

Hearing that, Lucien looked up, his expression still quite flustered: "Yes... I am Lucien Sinclair, an intern in the design department. I met you in the hallway yesterday, sir. I am sorry, I did not mean to bump into you. Let me pick all of this up..."

He bent down again, his hands swiftly gathering the scattered pages. Damian stood there, watching Lucien for a moment. Lucien had thought the man would lend a helping hand, but unexpectedly, Damian nonchalantly asked a single question, "Did you really not do it on purpose?"

Lucien’s heart skipped a beat, suddenly feeling as though the male lead of this world was not as easily led by the nose as Dominic Vance. But having acted up to this point, Lucien could only continue to feign ignorance, looking at the man: "What do you mean, sir? I... I truly do not want to cause trouble for you!"

Damian raised an eyebrow, not looking the least bit convinced. Just when Lucien thought Damian would bluntly walk past, the man bent down to help him pick up a few pieces of paper near his feet. When Damian handed the stack of papers toward him, Lucien reached out to take them, his fingers intentionally brushing swiftly, lightly touching the back of Damian’s hand.

It was only for a split second, but at least it was enough to fulfill the mission.

The sensation passed very quickly, but Damian still paused for a moment; he narrowed his eyes, taking on a distinctly wicked smile.

Suddenly, Lucien realized it was exactly as 000 had said; it looked just like a cheap office romance movie. A place where everyone could clearly see each other’s motives.

"Be careful next time." The man said before brushing straight past Lucien, leaving Lucien’s "Yes, sir" behind him.

Watching the silhouette of the man entering the meeting room, Lucien lowered his head, hugging the documents as he retreated toward the photocopier. He stood there, outwardly rearranging the shuffled papers, but in reality, he was gossiping with 000.

[Done!] 000’s cheering voice was quite loud: [Such a dime-a-dozen script, yet you still managed to pull it off. I have to admit, that is truly impressive. You even received 20 impression points, plus a bonus unlock of ear sensitivity. Congratulations, host.]

"What the hell is ear sensitivity?" Lucien asked, his voice reduced to a whisper as he walked back to the design department.

[It is simple. From now on, your ears will become much more sensitive than normal. When someone touches them, or even just breathes near your ear, it will create a sensation of stimulation many times stronger than that of an ordinary person. It will be useful for the main quests later on.]

"I do not need it." Lucien replied curtly: "Do you have a way to turn it off?"

[It cannot be turned off, it is a permanent reward. By the way, why do you not try to think more positively? Who knows, maybe later on it will help you complete missions faster.]

Lucien did not answer. He returned to his desk, set the stack of documents down, and flopped into his chair. What occupied his mind at this moment was not the newly unlocked sensitivity, but Damian’s gaze when the man looked at him earlier.

Clearly, the man was entirely suspicious of this incident. I am afraid there have been more than a few people who have "accidentally on purpose" approached Damian like that.

"000." Lucien called out softly.

[Huh?]

"Can you check what my current impression points with Damian are?"

[Of course I can. Your impression points with Damian Thorne currently stand at 25 points. This includes 5 points from the first meeting, and the 20 points just added from the mission.]

"25 points." Lucien muttered: "It seems this number is not as simple as it looks, is it? Obviously, everything has only just begun, so how could the value be pushed so high already?"

[25 points is not considered high, because at the very least, even when this number reaches 100, you might still not be able to get into bed with him. Or perhaps just 30 will be enough? Everything is subject to change. This number simply exists to help you evaluate the progress of your mission to avoid any ambiguity.]

"I feel like the more you speak, the more ambiguous it gets. But whatever..." Lucien sat up straight, opened his computer, and continued his work: "At least I have laid the first brick. As for the following ones, I will just take my time building."

All things considered, Lucien felt that this world was actually better than the previous one. In that first world, it seemed as if he had been spun around dizzily by Dominic Vance’s desires; there were things pushed away before he even had the chance to act. But this time was different, every single footstep, every single calculation... on the contrary, it was much more fascinating.
