The System Keeps Making Me Do Indecent Missions [BL, R18]

Chapter 151: Confrontation and Unintended Victories

Chapter 151: Chapter 151: Confrontation and Unintended Victories

After speaking, Lucien leisurely returned to his desk, not even bothering to spare a glance at Ethan’s face, which had darkened like the bottom of a soot-covered pot. After all, even if Ethan was currently seething with rage, there was absolutely no way for him to pick a fight with him. Currently, due to the change in procedure, the submitted concept clearly showed that it was under the charge of Lucien.

No matter how much Ethan hated him, the man could not simply create trivial troubles to dump on his head, because the concept was the absolute top priority. Regarding the hierarchy between Ethan and Damian, it was obvious that Damian held the higher authority, so the fact that Damian could reject the demands of the direct manager like Ethan was also extremely simple.

Generally speaking, using the tactic of assigning trivial chores to suppress him during this period was entirely impossible. Furthermore, since Ethan always loved to build up a hypocritical, righteous facade, he naturally would be even less likely to directly confront Lucien. With such a solid protective shield in place, why should Lucien ever have to yield to this person?

The morning passed in tranquility, yet the atmosphere within the design department was as heavy as if a storm was about to crash down. Ethan sat at his desk, not speaking to anyone, occasionally casting sharp, cold glances in the direction of Lucien. Howard, meanwhile, maintained the same brooding expression as he had over the past few days, not bothering to look at anyone. The other colleagues seemed to have also sensed that something was amiss, so everyone silently focused on their work, with no one gossiping as they usually did.

Early in the afternoon, Damian held a brief meeting with the entire design department to check on the progress of the projects. This was the first time in many months that he had directly participated in a meeting with the design department, and the atmosphere in the conference room was noticeably more tense because of it. Everyone sat in silence, waiting, while Damian stood at the head of the table, his hands turning each page of the reports.

Because he was an intern, even though he was the one holding the main visual for this current concept, Lucien still sat in a rather hidden corner. However, that did not matter much; people were only afraid of sitting in a corner when no one was intentionally seeking them out. As for Damian’s gaze, which occasionally fell upon Lucien, he did not think he had any dissatisfaction with this position at all.

The meeting actually went very quickly, mainly focusing on reiterating the concept processing rounds, as well as a few points to note. Since it was still in the initial creative stage, there were not too many things that needed to be discussed. Before long, the meeting concluded, and everyone took turns leaving the room. Lucien also stood up, but just as he stepped out the door, a voice rang out from behind him.

"Lucien Sinclair, stay behind for a moment."

Lucien turned around to see Ethan standing close by, hands tucked into his trouser pockets, the smile on his lips having vanished entirely. He stepped closer, the distance between the two men narrowing down to mere tens of centimeters. Lucien could smell the overpowering scent of cologne radiating from the man, and could clearly see every single vein bulging on his forehead.

"What do you think you are doing?" Ethan asked, his voice low and cold. "Do you think you can bypass me?"

"I do not understand what you are talking about." Lucien replied, his tone remaining perfectly calm.

"Do not pretend. You sent the concept to Damian, you talked to him after work. Do you think I do not know?" Ethan took another step forward, his voice growing harsher by the second. "Who do you think you are? A demoted intern, how high do you think you can climb?"

Lucien looked at Ethan, seeing in his eyes a mixture of anger and fear. This was exactly the moment he had been waiting for. He did not step back, nor did he raise his voice to argue. He merely let out a soft sigh and replied, his voice gentle yet distinct, "I have no desire to climb high, Ethan. I only want to do my job well. As for the concept, I sent it to Boss Damian because that is the new procedure. If you have any inquiries, you can ask the boss directly."

Having said that, he turned his back and walked away. But Ethan was not going to let him go so easily. He followed, grabbing his arm, his voice practically a hiss, "Do not act so arrogant with me. Do you think you have already won? Do you think just by climbing into Damian’s bed, everything is settled? Keep dreaming!"

Lucien tried to jerk his hand away, but Ethan had a rather tight grip. He was just about to say something when a tall figure stepped out of meeting room number two.

What a coincidence, the very person being badmouthed appeared right on cue.

"Ethan Lee, let go of him." The moment Damian’s voice rang out was also the exact moment Ethan’s face turned deathly pale.

Startled, he hastily released Lucien’s arm. He turned to look at Damian, his face slightly ashen, before quickly regaining his composure. "Boss Damian, I was merely reminding my employee."

"I do not want to hear any explanations." Damian said. "Return to your station. I will deal with this matter later."

Ethan bit his lip, but did not dare to argue. He shot Lucien a glare filled with resentment, then turned around and walked away, his back as stiff as a string about to snap.

Lucien watched the resentful man walk away while rubbing the spot that had been gripped so hard it hurt. His demeanor seemed perfectly normal, but in reality, it was Lucien deliberately putting on a fragile act in front of Damian. However, there was not much acting required; who knew what that lunatic ate to be able to squeeze his arm so painfully for real.

While he was inwardly cursing that guy Ethan, Damian suddenly stepped closer, placed a hand on his waist, and gently guided him to the side, out of the walkway. The man’s hand was warm and firm, brushing against the thin fabric of the dress shirt, and then retracted the moment he stood steadily.

"Are you alright?"

"I am fine." Lucien replied, his voice small, his eyes still not looking up. "Thank you, boss."

Damian looked at him for a little while longer, then let out a soft sigh. "Go back to your desk. I will handle this."

Saying that, he turned his back and strode toward the elevator, leaving Lucien standing all alone in the corridor.

Lucien stood there for a moment longer, his hand subconsciously reaching up to lightly touch the spot where Damian’s hand had just rested. Then he let out a soft chuckle, shook his head, and made his way back to his desk. Suddenly reaping a bit of unexpected success outside of his plans made Lucien feel quite cheerful. It was just that this sudden, ungraspable demeanor of Damian’s also made Lucien rather worried. To tell the truth, sometimes he really could not understand the brain circuitry of this lunatic.

[First mission completed! Second mission is also completed!] 000’s voice rang out in his mind again, shrill and full of excitement. [30 bonding points and 20 impression points have all been added. Congratulations, host!]

"Wait a minute, since when was the first mission completed?"

[Earlier in the meeting room, you might not have noticed, but Damian kept looking at you from time to time. Furthermore, did you forget that there was a segment where you were called up to speak about the preliminary idea for the concept? At that time, he was staring at you without even blinking!]

"Oh." Lucien replied with a bland tone. "I must have been too busy to notice at the time."

Lucien shrugged at 000’s response, not even bothering to ask any further. After all, the missions were already completed and the points had been added, so he had no desire to listen to this system ramble on any longer. He rubbed his arm, which was still slightly sore from Ethan’s tight grip, and then made his way toward his desk.

He had not been sitting down for very long when the phone inside his trouser pocket let out a sudden vibration. Lucien lazily pulled it out to check, figuring that it would just be Mark texting to report on the situation as usual. However, that was not the case. Displayed on the screen was a brief, concise message from a phone number that he had saved a long time ago but had never actually received a single text from.

"Stay behind tonight. I have something I want to talk to you about."
