Chapter 57: Chapter 57: The War Begins

"It’s fixed."

Just then, Tooth Bone’s sudden shout broke the brief silence in the Graveyard Demon.

Gu Su looked up at Tooth Bone and saw him holding the [Destructive Military Band], waving it energetically in his direction.

After Tooth Bone’s repairs, the previously fragmented wooden dolls now looked whole again.

Some had their missing legs replaced with rusty screws, allowing them to stand steadily on the ground.

Others had their broken torsos wrapped in vines from the Deceitful Tree, barely holding their complete forms together.

Still others were missing arms, which had been replaced with short, thick wooden branches. Though crude, they looked neat, finally shedding their former dilapidated appearance.

The only things that hadn’t changed were the instruments in their hands. Each one had been polished until it practically shone.

Gu Su stood up and said crisply, "Let’s test it."

Tooth Bone immediately complied. He placed the [Destructive Military Band] on a flat patch of ground, and with a slight movement of a Bone Joint in his finger, pressed an inconspicuous switch on one of the dolls.

It was a Control button he had specially added during the repairs.

The next second, a harsh and chaotic sound erupted. It could hardly be called a melody; rather, it was a cacophony like a rock concert blasting the venue, mixed with the grating noise of scraping wood. It was both piercing and loud.

The sound had no aesthetic appeal whatsoever. Compounded by its extreme volume, it spread out and made anyone who heard it feel inexplicably irritated. Even the Skeleton Warriors on standby swayed their frames slightly.

But as Gu Su listened, a faint smile slowly formed on his lips, a calculating glint in his eyes.

He glanced up at the sky. It was already growing dark, and only the faint, fluorescent glow of the Deceitful Tree illuminated the silhouette of the Graveyard Demon.

Then, he turned to Suburban Wolf and said, "Go stake out the area near the Kobold camp. If they’re about to rest, turn on this god-awful music."

"The moment they get up to chase you, run. Don’t get entangled with them."

"Remember, you absolutely must not let them get any proper sleep. Just keep wearing them down. Wait for my signal before you make a move."

Suburban Wolf didn’t ask a single question. Always one to follow orders, he simply gave a solemn nod, stepped forward to pick up the [Destructive Military Band] from the ground, and his group departed from the Graveyard Demon in silence, disappearing into the dark forest.

After Suburban Wolf was gone, Gu Su turned back to Tooth Bone to continue his deployments. "First, install that [Flashing Lamp Tube] directly above the main gate. Adjust the angle. I need it to unleash a wide-area burst of intense light at the critical moment, acting as a Flash Bomb to cover our forces’ movements."

"Yes, Sir."

Tooth Bone replied respectfully. Cradling the lamp tube, he turned and walked toward the Graveyard Demon’s main gate. His fingertips nimbly fiddled with the parts as he quickly began to install and calibrate it.

Meanwhile, Gu Su took advantage of this interval to return to his tent.

After a full day of continuous work, and with the need to prepare for the upcoming Kobold raid, he had to get some proper rest and recover his strength.

After all, this was the first time since entering the game that he had faced such a large-scale enemy. There was no room for even the slightest carelessness. Only by restoring his Spirit could he calmly face the battle to come.

Gu Su slept until around two in the morning.

When he awoke, it was silent outside the tent, save for the faint rustling of the Deceitful Tree’s leaves.

His Spirit restored, he stepped out of his tent and walked straight to the Yin Fire Heap. He fished a few chunks of overcooked meat and roots from the still-warm pot, just enough to fill his stomach.

After filling his stomach, Gu Su looked up at the Deceitful Tree behind him.

The Deceitful Tree was now emitting a faint, eerie green glow. The light was soft and not overly bright, but it was enough to envelop the entire Graveyard Demon, making even the shadows in the corners of the walls clearly visible. It also lent the waiting Undead Team a more sinister aura.

His gaze slowly swept over the troops preparing for battle.

Near the main gate, eight Walking Dead Warriors stood in a neat formation, each holding a thick and sturdy Wooden Shield the size of a door panel.

Behind them, ten Elite Skeleton Warriors and eight Ordinary Skeleton Warriors were lined up, awaiting orders.

Further back stood three Magic Skeletons. The one that hadn’t mastered any Magic was holding a Long Spear.

These were all the regular troops under Gu Su’s command.

In addition, the Ordinary Skeletons had all picked up Wooden Spears crafted overnight. They were spread out along the various crenellations of the wall, their eyes vacant but their stances vigilant, constantly watching for any movement outside and ready to provide support at a moment’s notice.

After glancing at his fully alerted forces, Gu Su slowly raised his hand, a slight twitch in his fingertips.

The next second, a White Crow flew down from a branch of the Deceitful Tree. With a flutter of its wings, it landed steadily on his shoulder and let out a low caw.

"Go. Tell Suburban Wolf to lure the Kobolds this way, as planned."

Gu Su’s voice was low and firm, without a trace of hesitation.

The White Crow understood the command. It cawed twice more, then beat its wings and took flight, breaking through the eerie green glow and speeding toward the forest. In an instant, it had vanished into the darkness.

At that very moment, Suburban Wolf was leading his men, sprinting through the pitch-black forest with the sounds of footsteps and roars rising and falling behind them.

Over a hundred furious clown Kobolds were hot on their heels.

Suburban Wolf had barely rested all night, spending the entire time continuously provoking the Kobolds.

Whenever the Kobolds returned to camp and tried to rest, he would sneak nearby with the [Destructive Military Band], press the switch, and let the piercing music blast through the camp.

The moment the enraged Kobolds got up to chase him, he would immediately retreat with his men, never lingering for a fight.

He appeared in a different location each time—sometimes to the east of the camp, sometimes to the west. After the music played, he would immediately vanish back into the forest. His entire strategy was built on surprise and sleep disruption, all to ensure the Kobolds became exhausted and unable to rest.

This time was no exception. He had just played a burst of music at maximum volume on the outskirts of the Kobold camp, enraging nearly all of them before he and his men made a swift retreat. Behind them, the Kobolds chased like madmen, roaring relentlessly.

But their movement speed wasn’t particularly fast, even with the red balloons on their backs that allowed for short-distance flight. But so what? In a godforsaken forest like this, flying just meant crashing into trees.

Besides, Suburban Wolf’s own Suburban Wolf Squad was seriously fast, especially since they had planned their retreat route from the very beginning. Suburban Wolf could run it with his eyes closed.

The Kobolds trailing behind couldn’t possibly catch up. All they could do was get angry.

Just then, a White Crow flew down in front of Suburban Wolf, relaying Gu Su’s command.

Upon hearing the order, Suburban Wolf immediately changed direction, leading the one hundred-plus Kobolds toward the Graveyard Demon.
