As the Flashing Lamp Tube erupted in a blinding white glare, a loud BUZZ reverberated, and the entire battlefield was instantly enveloped in incandescent light.
The Kobold Warriors in the front rank screamed and clutched their eyes, their pupils seared by the intense light. Their Wolf-toothed Sticks clattered to the ground as they staggered and lost their balance.
In the instant before the white light faded, Gu Su’s four Walking Dead Warriors were already poised to strike. With heavy Wooden Shields held before them, veins bulged on their thick, rotting arms as they let out a low growl and charged, ramming their shields forward.
"THUD! THUD! THUD!" A series of dull impacts rang out. Three Kobold Warriors, unable to react in time, were sent flying back like kites with their strings cut, their sternums caving in. They crashed heavily into their comrades, their limbs twisting as dark green blood sprayed everywhere.
Immediately after, the dozens of Ordinary Skeletons remaining in the territory moved as one. Carrying sharpened Wooden Spears, they charged out in a dense mass. Their footsteps were chaotic, yet possessed the unique, uniform rhythm of the Undead.
They weren’t a formal army and had no complex tactics; their approach was simple to the extreme.
Every three Skeletons automatically formed a small squad. One would engage from the front with its spear, while the other two flanked, aiming their Wooden Spears with precision at the Kobolds’ vitals—throats, eye sockets, ribs—stabbing, twisting, and pulling back without mercy.
Dark green blood dripped from the spearheads, forming winding trails on the ground. The air filled with a piercing cacophony of screams and cracking bones.
They paid no heed to tactics or self-preservation, knowing only to attack with all their might in the most efficient way possible. Even when scratched by claws or bitten by fangs, they never paused, continuing to brandish their Wooden Spears with mechanical persistence.
Taking advantage of the chaos, Gu Su’s figure flashed as he rushed out. The Plague Cutter in his hand glinted with a dark, cold light. Before a wailing Kobold Warrior, still clutching its eyes, could recover, he slammed the saw blade against its neck and pressed the switch.
"BZZZZ—RIIIIP!"
The sharp shriek of the high-speed chainsaw pierced the battlefield as its explosive effect activated instantly. The sharp blade sliced through the Kobold’s thick neck as easily as a knife through butter.
Dark green blood gushed out, splashing all over Gu Su. The fanged head fell to the ground with a thud and rolled several meters away, its eye sockets still holding a look of lingering terror.
After finishing off the Kobold, Gu Su flicked his wrist. The Plague Cutter found its next target, and with a whir of its blade, another Kobold fell into a pool of its own blood.
Just then, the sound of orderly, heavy footsteps echoed from the distance. The elite Undead unit led by Bone Forest had silently completed their pincer movement, coming up behind the Kobolds.
Seizing the opportunity while their opponents were pinned from the front, unable to coordinate their front and rear, they launched a ferocious charge.
Bone Forest led the charge. With a few swings of his Bone Blade Longsword, two Kobolds were instantly sliced in half at the waist. His Skeleton Warriors followed close behind, their assault as swift and fierce as a tidal wave. In a matter of moments, more than half the Kobolds had fallen into pools of blood, unable to even scream.
Only when they heard the dying screams of their comrades from behind did the Kobolds with seared eyes begin to recover their senses, but it was already too late.
Bone Forest’s troops had already broken through their defensive line and plunged deep into the Kobold ranks, shattering their once-orderly formation.
At this point, the squads under Bone Forest’s command each began to display their distinct fighting styles.
The white triangular flag on Suburban Wolf’s back flapped in the chaos. Aided by his sprinting Talent, he and his twenty-four Skeleton Warriors moved so fast they were little more than afterimages.
He and his squad paid no mind to the details of the battle, swinging their Bone Blade Longswords in a relentless storm. Amid flashes of cold light, Kobold limbs and heads flew through the air as screams rose and fell.
They were like a sharp knife, tearing through the Kobold formation. In just a few moments, they had nearly carved a path from one end to the other, leaving no survivors in their wake.
Snake Fang’s side was a bit slower. The triangular flag on his back, emblazoned with a cobra’s head, was particularly eye-catching. The Longswords of his Skeleton Warriors were all wreathed in a faint green aura—the Highly Poisonous effect from Snake Fang’s Poison Strike Talent.
Though not as fast as the Suburban Wolf Squad, their poison enhancement, coupled with the extra boost from Bone Forest’s Assassination Talent, ensured every one of their strikes landed precisely on a Kobold’s vital points.
The moment a sword tip broke the skin, dark green venom would invade the Kobold’s body. Even tough, thick-skinned Kobold Warriors would start convulsing within seconds, lose their strength, and collapse lifelessly. Against ordinary Kobolds, it was one clean strike, one kill.
As for Bone Forest himself, he led thirty-odd Elite Skeleton Warriors, periodically taking half a step back to evade the Kobolds’ desperate counterattacks before quickly circling to their flank and rear to launch another fierce assault.
His movements were steady, and every swing of his sword was full of power. Especially when attacking from the flank or rear, his Attack Power soared, allowing him to cleave a Kobold in two with a single strike.
Each charge reaped a swath of Kobold lives. The Undead Warriors showed no fear; even with damaged limbs and broken bones, they charged forward, unafraid of death, using their skeletal bodies to form an unbreakable line.
In just a few short minutes, the Kobolds, who had started with a clear numerical advantage, were being slaughtered in the pincer attack. Their numbers dwindled until they were the ones at a disadvantage. The surviving Kobolds were filled with terror, their will to fight gone, wanting only to turn and flee.
But the battlefield was already completely surrounded by the Undead Team; there was no escape.
Seeing that the battle was decided, Gu Su shouted a new order, telling the Walking Dead Warriors—who had been holding the front line and pinning down the Kobold assault with their shields—to let loose.
After being suppressed for so long, a ferocious glint flashed in the eyes of the Walking Dead Warriors. They finally dropped their tense defensive stance. No longer just blocking with their Wooden Shields, they raised their Heavy Warhammers and smashed them toward the Kobold Warriors wielding Wolf-toothed Sticks.
One Walking Dead Warrior took a direct hit from a Kobold Warrior’s Wolf-toothed Stick. Its Wooden Shield dented slightly, but the warrior itself didn’t budge. Seizing the opening as the Kobold Warrior swung its weapon, it whipped its thick arm around, and the Heavy Warhammer whistled through the air before crashing into the Kobold Warrior’s chest.
CRACK!
The crisp sound of breaking bones rang out. The Kobold Warrior shrieked as a large section of its chest caved in, and dark green blood gushed forth.
Before it could fall, the Walking Dead Warrior’s Heavy Warhammer fell again. One, two, three... after a flurry of three or five blows, the Kobold Warrior’s body was beaten into a bloody pulp, finally reduced to a pile of gore with no chance of recovery.
As the last Kobold fell under Gu Su’s Plague Cutter and the blade spun to a halt, Gu Su surveyed the field of corpses and bloodstains and couldn’t help but throw his head back and laugh. His laughter was filled with exhilarating satisfaction and the calm confidence of one who had mastered the battlefield.
Just then, the eastern sky began to show the first hint of dawn. The pitch-black night was dyed a pale grey-white. The night wind gradually died down, and though the thick stench of blood still hung over the battlefield, it was now mingled with the faint light of breaking day.
Dawn had broken!
