Chapter 65: Chapter 65: Post-War Harvest

After his laughter died down, Gu Su finally calmed himself. He looked down at the ravaged battlefield before him.

The ground was littered with Kobold corpses, shattered Wolf-toothed Sticks, and fragments of broken Long Spears. Dark green blood soaked into the earth, emitting a pungent, foul stench that mingled with the acrid smell of something burning and the sharp reek of venom. The combination was utterly nauseating.

His gaze swept over the chaotic aftermath of the battle. Gu Su decisively raised his hand and issued his commands. "Bone Ash, take your men and clean up the battlefield. Sort the corpses and materials, and haul everything inside for now."

"Tooth Bone, take your squad to repair the walls and reinforce the defenses."

"Bone Forest, go to where we found the Kobold tracks earlier. Find out where they came from, and if you find any stragglers, wipe them all out."

At these words, a ghostly light flickered in Bone Forest’s empty eye sockets. Without a second thought, he turned and raised a hand. The Skeleton Warriors under his command swiftly assembled, marching in lockstep as they charged off in the direction the Kobolds had come from. Their figures soon vanished into the distant shadows.

Meanwhile, all the Skeletons under Bone Ash and Tooth Bone immediately put down their bloodstained weapons and sprang into action, each attending to their respective duties.

Bone Ash stood in the center of the battlefield, the triangular blue-backed flag on his back swaying gently. Aided by his Scavenging Talent, he precisely commanded his Skeleton Squad to divide the area into sectors and begin the methodical process of cleaning up.

The Skeletons worked in pairs, bending over and dragging the Kobold corpses with a stiff yet practiced flexibility. Some grabbed the limbs while others supported the torsos, gradually gathering and sorting the bodies that were strewn across the field.

They then carried the bodies in batches, marching with steady steps into the Graveyard Demon. The corpses left dark green bloodstains as they were dragged across the ground, adding to the chaotic tapestry of the battlefield.

Several other Skeletons were tasked specifically with collecting materials. Their bony fingers precisely stripped the worn Leather Armor from the Kobolds’ bodies and picked up the dropped Wolf-toothed Sticks and Short Sabers.

Even the long-deflated or damaged Red Balloons tied to the Kobolds’ backs were carefully untied, folded neatly, and stacked, ensuring not a single one was missed.

Gu Su took the opportunity to pace across the battlefield, occasionally gesturing to issue supplementary orders, his tone one of composed authority. "Bone Ash, pay attention to the sorting! Separate the bodies of the Kobold Warlocks. Throw all of them into the Empty Tombs designated for Magic Skeletons. Don’t mix them in with the ordinary Kobolds."

"Take the corpses of the Kobold Warriors over to the Level 2 Empty Tombs. We’ll save those to be converted into Walking Dead."

He bent down and picked up a notched and rusty Wolf-toothed Stick. After a brief inspection, he casually tossed it to a nearby Skeleton, his voice tinged with disdain.

"As for these broken weapons and shoddy leather armor of theirs, it’s all junk. No need to keep it. Have it all converted into the basic materials needed to upgrade and repair the Graveyard Demon. Don’t let it take up space."

He paused, then pointed to the neatly stacked Red Balloons. "Keep the skins from those punctured Red Balloons as a reserve of Beast Skins. They might come in handy later."

Bone Ash gave a slight nod and immediately adjusted his commands. The Skeleton Squads under him moved with even greater precision, sorting, hauling, and organizing everything in one seamless flow.

The once-chaotic battlefield gradually became orderly under the efficient cleanup of the Undead.

The scattered weapons were cleared away, and a steady stream of sorted corpses was fed into the Graveyard Demon. Although the bloodstains on the ground had yet to fade, there were no longer any disorderly piles of remains.

After a flurry of activity, the battlefield cleanup was finally complete. Gu Su looked over the tally of their haul, a glint of satisfaction in his eyes.

In this battle, they had harvested the corpses of eighteen Kobold Warriors, eleven Kobold Warlocks, and two hundred and twenty-four ordinary Kobolds.

Beyond that, they had also obtained 217 units of Wood, 103 units of Stone, and 551 points of Yin Qi through conversion. Adding the 255 Red Balloon skins being kept as Beast Skins, it was an abundant haul indeed.

Faced with so many corpses, however, Gu Su hesitated for a moment. He stopped in his tracks, gently tapping his chin as he sank into thought.

’The Kobold Warriors are burly, perfect for turning into Walking Dead to supplement the territory’s meat shields and heavy labor force.’

’The Kobold Warlocks have Magic potential, which is perfect for creating more Magic Skeletons to enhance our ranged magical output.’

’As soon as the corresponding Empty Tombs for those two types have ten corpses buried inside, I’ll upgrade them into Gravepiles. That’s the only way to guarantee more housing space to accommodate a larger number of Undead.’

’As for the Magic Skeletons and Walking Dead I’ll be creating, I’ve already got a plan for them. I’ll put them to work immediately.’

’After all, while the initial cleanup is done, there’s still a lot of finishing work left. The scattered corpses and leftover materials outside need a thorough clearing. I can’t just let all these good resources rot and go to waste.’

’But the problem is, there are still over two hundred ordinary Kobold corpses here. The sheer number is just too large.’

’If I convert them all into Ordinary Skeletons and put them to work, it feels like a bit of a waste.’

’I know full well that Undead without a Minion to lead them are rigid and slow to react. They need me to issue detailed instructions for every little thing, which makes commanding them a real chore. Their efficiency isn’t great, either.’

’I learned that the hard way on my first day in the game.’

’Back then, the Skeletons would only follow my orders mechanically, and sometimes their work still wasn’t up to my standards.’

’I’d explain things to them multiple times, and they would still forget, almost making me want to just dismantle them.’

’If I used Soul Summoning on all of them now and turned them into Skeletons, I can’t even imagine what kind of disaster that would turn into.’

’Instead of an Undead Calamity for my enemies, it would be a calamity for me.’

Gu Su considered this seriously. His gaze slowly swept across the different areas of the Graveyard Demon before finally settling on the Withered Wood Forest in the upper-left corner.

"You there," he commanded. "Take a batch of corpses over to the Withered Wood Forest and fill up the quota of bodies required by the White Crow Squad."

His Skeletons immediately obeyed, quickly hoisting up a batch of ordinary Kobold corpses and marching toward the Withered Wood Forest. They proceeded to toss the bodies, one by one, into the Empty Tomb located there.

A moment later, Gu Su’s keen senses picked up the faint sound of fluttering wings in the sky. A dense swarm of White Crows was slowly rising from the Empty Tomb.

They were small in stature, their dark eye sockets glowing with a faint, ghostly light. They were incredibly numerous, quickly covering the branches of the Deceitful Tree and the dead boughs of the Withered Wood Forest. Soon, even the fences of the Graveyard Demon were lined with identical-looking White Crows.

Seeing this, Gu Su was taken aback for a moment. He then frowned and couldn’t help but ask, "Where’s the White Crow Boss? Or a Minion? With this many White Crows, how can there not be a corresponding Minion?"
