The Villain Reborn as Game's Final Boss
Chapter 323: Uninvited Presence [1]At least I thought that my words would put John at ease, but the guy turned even more desperate as he increased the pace of his steps, making me do the same.
"John—"
Before my words could reach him, John began to run through the hallway, trying to reach the council room as fast as possible, and—
"I hope we weren’t late."
That had led me here, before the entire council, as all the seniors observed us with caution.
Hm?
Maybe it was me whom they were cautious about.
But... why?
"Kael Frost."
My name was called out, making me turn towards the source.
At the head of the table, a guy with black hair and red eyes sat, as he stared back at me.
His skin was pale, and that only went on to magnify his presence.
Sitting beside him was Victoria, the vice president of the student council, so it wasn’t difficult to know the identity of the vampire before me.
Leon Black... the heir to House Black, one of the strongest ruling families amongst the vampires.
"The list that had been presented before me had no mention of your name. And knowing the competence of the council members, I don’t think they would have made a mistake in it."
Leon’s voice was as polite as it could be.
"May I know the reason behind your uninvited presence at the meeting?"
The entirety of the council now had its eyes on me, though I made no effort to return their stares.
Looking to my right at the head of the table, just beside Victoria, sat another girl with blonde hair, her presence just as dominating as the rest of the leading figures in the council.
Meeting Ashlyn’s gaze, I gave her a small smile, making the former a little surprised by my actions, as I could feel her facade of indifference breaking before my eyes.
The rest of the council members, including Leon and Victoria, traced my line of sight before focusing their attention on Ashlyn, who, despite the initial surprise, now had a composed face as she stared back at me.
There was a long silence between us, with everyone expecting some sort of conversation between the Leviath princess and me, but—
"Your words wound me... President."
Shifting my attention to Leon, I uttered the words in an equally polite voice, making Leon slightly raise his brows.
I could feel Victoria’s gaze trying to pierce through my existence, but I had no interest in entertaining her.
Had she always been this desperate for my attention?
Maybe.
"As the representative of the first years, it is only right for me to attend this meeting, allowing me to witness the presence of the students who would be representing my peers."
The words flowed freely from the bottom of my heart... at least the tone of my voice made it sound so.
Leon didn’t seem satisfied by my answer, though he didn’t make his dissatisfaction known either.
The guy just observed me in silence—
Hm?
I could feel the mana particles around me being suppressed by some invisible pressure—
"Is that so?"
A foreign mana pressure descended on me, and there was only one person in the room who could openly display his authority in such a way.
Looking at Leon... I could see an amused expression on his face as he waited for my reaction.
At the same time, I could feel the intensity of the mana pressure increasing with every passing moment.
Leon... was he trying to test me?
Sigh.
Closing my eyes, I took a shallow breath and—
"It is."
Mana flooded out of my core, as I willed my own mana pressure to descend around the entirety of the hall.
The first years sitting at the end of the table began to suffocate, while the rest of the seniors appeared visibly stressed and uncomfortable with the atmosphere around them, but—
I had just begun.
Willing more mana through my core, I increased my mana pressure and... so did Leon.
His amused expression had now turned serious, as he willed more mana pressure to descend upon me.
I, on my part, didn’t hold back as more of my mana pressure clashed against Leon’s, making visible sparks appear in the air between us.
"Leon—"
Victoria tried to intervene, but Leon didn’t appear the least interested in stopping his actions, as the events had now shifted to his pride.
As the heir to the Blacks, he couldn’t back down, and neither could I.
No words were exchanged between us, yet an entire conversation was being carried out in the dead silence of our clash.
There was no need to sense Leon’s core, as it was a known fact that he was a Platinum 4.
One of the leading geniuses of the current era, and the pride of House Black.
The guy had dominated the student council elections, and won with an intensity that left no room for resistance.
Being a vampire, he had numerous advantages over the students of the other races, coupled with his already monstrous talent... Leon was a calamity in the making.
Still, mana pressure was something that could be used only by Diamond cores, and if someone below that rank had the talent to exert his mana pressure on his surroundings... then it was a given that his mastery over it would be far below what the actual Diamond cores could achieve.
That was the only reason I was able to resist and fight Leon’s mana pressure on equal ground, as being a Platinum ranker had reduced the actual intensity of mana that Leon could force upon me.
On the other hand, I was an exception to this rule... as my mastery over mana was not something that could be calculated by the standards of this world.
Currently, my mana pressure was only limited by the actual amount of mana available at my disposal.
Though Leon’s rank was higher than mine, his control over mana couldn’t be compared to my monstrous mana control.
Leon seemed to have realised the same, as his face had now begun to twist into a frown.
