"You sure are an interesting man... Kael Frost. Seems like the rumours about your strength weren’t unfounded."

The moment the words left Leon’s mouth, his mana pressure visibly declined before the guy withdrew it completely.

Seeing Leon’s actions, I too withdrew my own mana pressure.

The rest of the students appeared relieved now that the air around them felt safe to breathe.

"I had heard you had been in a fight with our vice president, so I was just trying to test the authenticity of the reports. I apologise if my actions might have been rude to you."

Leon had now shifted to look at Victoria, who just gave him a brief glance before looking towards me.

"Well... your actions hadn’t affected me much, so there’s no need for an apology."

"..."

I could feel the corners of Leon’s mouth twitching, though the guy was quick enough to compose his reaction.

"That’s good enough then. Please take your seat so that we can start with the meeting."

Hm?

I thought the Blacks were the arrogant type who would never forgive any sort of disrespect, but Leon... he was being surprisingly cooperative.

Turning to look behind, John had already taken his seat, and I could see Noah sitting a few chairs before him.

Noah might have been feeling like a side character during my exchange with Leon.

For some reason, that felt a little satisfying to me.

A council member, probably a second year, had brought a chair for me, as the guy motioned for me to make myself comfortable.

Leon seemed to be waiting for me to take my seat, and so were the rest of the council members, as the meeting hadn’t begun yet.

But—

Walking towards the chair, I gave Noah a brief glance before lifting the chair before me.

"What—"

Noah tried to say something, but I had already begun to move, as I made my way towards a particular person sitting in the hall.

Placing the chair at the right side of the head of the table, just beside Ashlyn, I made myself comfortable before loosening my neck a little.

"Student Kael... the first years are supposed to sit there."

A girl standing behind Victoria pointed at the end of the table, making me shift my attention towards her.

Ella White, one of the top rankers in the fifth year and the eldest daughter of the Whites.

Leon didn’t say anything, as he observed me in silence.

"Miss Ella... is there any issue with me sitting here?"

"Uh... that area is designated for the disciplinary committee, so until you are part of it—"

"Can I sit here?"

Interrupting Ella, I shifted my focus to Ashlyn, who had her eyes closed, as if bored by the exchange.

"Yes."

Still, Ashlyn took the effort to open her eyes before staring at me.

"That settles it then."

"..."

"Please start with the meeting."

There was no need to hide my support for Ashlyn; on the contrary, I felt this was the perfect platform to show which faction I was aligned with.

Turning my head to look behind, I gave the rest of the disciplinary committee members a small wave of my hand, making them smile awkwardly to acknowledge my presence.

After all, our first meeting had been quite... intense.

"Many of you might know about me, but for those who don’t, let me introduce myself. I am the current President of the student council and the heir to House Black. The name’s Leon, and it is a pleasure to meet bright students like you."

Hints of arrogance could be felt from Leon’s words, though no one showed their displeasure.

But thinking about it, was there any need to mention whether he was the heir to the house or not?

"Being selected for the council isn’t something that everyone is blessed with. Becoming the representatives of the first year just goes on to show your talent..."

Leon continued his speech, which could be considered a sort of formality to introduce the new members to the council.

"You seem upset?"

Ashlyn whispered from the side, as the girl had now slightly shifted in my direction.

"Is the speech interesting for you?"

I asked a question of my own, making Ashlyn give a small smile as opposed to the earlier indifference on her face.

"I was the one who had written it."

That...

I couldn’t find any other words, so silence would have to suffice for now.

Ashlyn too didn’t say anything else, and so the meeting went on.

***

The meeting had just ended, as the president dismissed the council.

Noah remained seated in his chair, observing the seniors making their way out of the room.

At first it was the president who had left the hall, then followed by Victoria and Ashlyn, who were the topmost figures in the student council’s leadership.

The rest of the council members left the area according to the order of their hierarchy, with the seniors leaving first.

That was why all of the first years were still seated at their respective places without moving an inch.

Though it wasn’t some rule... it could be called an unwritten yet established fact of sorts.

Every generation of council members had followed it, and so the newcomers had to do the same.

"There are quite a lot of them."

Amelia, who was seated beside Noah, commented, making all the first years turn their attention towards her.

"The council governs all the five years in the academy, so it is a given for its representatives to be in such numbers."

Vienna... the first princess of House Elor, replied, making Noah nod his head in return.

The representatives who had been selected for representing the first year were all geniuses in their own fields, with most of them being masters of combat at their respective ranks.

Noah had indirectly become their leader as he was the strongest one among them, and so all the first years had sat around him with Noah being in the centre.

The feeling of leading was a satisfying one for Noah, and it should have been a normal outcome, if not for him.

Noah’s eyes were focused on a particular boy with dark black hair and similarly black eyes.
