Placing his hand near to his chest, Irtuk spoke the words from the bottom of his heart.

The sincerity in his voice was crystal clear for everyone to see, prompting No. 8 to be amused from within.

He had to commend the acting of the elf before him, as House Elor hadn’t lifted a single finger to help Syma during the attack.

It was only when the attackers were about to retreat that some of the reinforcements from the elves had arrived at the various branches of Syma Alchemists’ and Syma Royal Bank.

"Please convey my thanks on behalf of Syma. Had it not been for House Elor’s reinforcement... many more would have fallen to the blades of those vile monsters... who had their souls devoid of the emotions of the living."

No. 8 uttered the words in an equally sincere voice, with a pained expression on his face, as if he was hurt by just remembering the incident that had led to the slaughter of countless people, irrespective of their wealth, race or status in the society.

The slaughter didn’t discriminate between the rich or poor... taking lives with equal intensity on both sides.

Irtuk and the rest of his group observed Alfenzo with pity in their eyes.

They knew that House Elor had purposefully delayed the reinforcements to aid Syma, but here they were... talking with one of Syma’s leaders, who was thanking their house from the bottom of his soul.

No. 8 on his part couldn’t help but smile in his mind, as he knew that both the parties had a great mastery over their skills in acting.

A negotiation and the subsequent agreements between the people with position of power were nothing more than two sides showing the most ideal illusion of their own.

"House Elor has been working with the authorities to find the culprits behind the attack and bring them to justice, so please... do not think that you are alone in this fight against terror."

Irtuk’s voice was soft yet firm at the same time.

The tone of his voice was proof enough of his belief in the capabilities of his house.

No. 8 simply placed his hand near to his heart, before giving a small bow of acknowledgement to the prince of House Elor, for his generous and heroic words.

Irtuk simply nodded his head at the gesture, but failed to see the slight smirk on No. 8’s lips as the guy had his head lowered.

"As you might already know, our guild wishes to help Syma stabilise its operations once again. We have already forged a temporary contract detailing all the terms of our cooperation."

Just as Irtuk completed his statement, an elf sitting beside him was quick to draw a bunch of neatly arranged papers from his bag, before handing it to No. 8.

"Please go through it, and tell if there are any changes you wish to make."

To have an edge in the negotiations, the executives of the guild had already drafted a contract even before the meeting could take place, so as to deter Syma from taking an undue advantage of the situation.

Taking the contract in his hand, No. 8 gave Irtuk a brief glance before going through the details of all the terms and conditions mentioned in the papers.

Seconds turned into minutes, as Irtuk and his group patiently waited for Alfenzo to review the contract.

No. 8 on his part had gone through the entire contract and had already memorized all the terms mentioned in it, but still... he kept turning the pages back and forth as if trying to understand everything with clarity.

He just wanted to trouble his guests... a little.

And he was successful to a great extent, as even after an hour had passed, No. 8 didn’t raise his head from the contract that he was still ’reading’, leaving many of the elves frustrated at being made to wait for such a long period of time without having to do anything productive.

But none of them made it obvious, as everyone had their facial expressions tightly controlled to show the most polite version of themselves.

After all, each member of the delegation was a diplomat to the core, and so... they somehow managed to pass through the ordeal challenge that No. 8 had knowingly put forth for them.

"Overall, everything looks good, though there are few areas where I think some form of correction would be needed."

Finally deciding to end the suffering of the elves, No. 8 gave Irtuk a polite smile, before keeping the contract by his side.

"That’s good to know. You can share the revised document once you’re done with it."

Irtuk cleared his throat as he spoke those words.

Others might not have noticed it, but Irtuk knew that Alfenzo had already understood the contract but was intentionally making them wait.

The behaviour made Irtuk smile at No. 8 with knowing eyes... and the latter was quick to get the hint.

Some of the elves noticed the silent conversation between their leader and the representative of Syma, but didn’t dare to speak anything in between.

"It would be a pleasure working with people as distinguished as you."

Standing up from his seat, No. 8 extended his hand, a gesture which was soon reciprocated by the Elven prince, who managed a polite, yet calculated smile of his own.

"May mother nature stay with us."

Irtuk responded in kind, while gently tapping on his chest.

The elves repeated his gesture, which was a sort of custom in the elven lands.

As the handshake ended, Irtuk made a polite nod of his head to signal their return, and the elves soon began to exit the room.

For the entire time, No. 8 had his eyes fixed on Irtuk’s retreating back, and just before the young prince was about to step out, he turned his head sideways, to give No. 8 a nod of acknowledgement... which the faceless accepted with a genuine smile of his own.
