It felt dark.
No matter how much he tried, the darkness didn’t budge as it had encompassed the entirety of his vision.
Still, Noah tried again... and again, and then for the last time, but all his attempts ended in failure.
The darkness... it felt lonely to Noah, but he didn’t let it affect his sense of logic, or at least he tried to stop it from affecting him, but clearly he wasn’t able to do so, as the feeling of being alone intensified once again.
’I couldn’t win.’
Noah thought to himself while remembering his fight with Kael.
He didn’t know what had taken over him at that point in time, but every part of his body had been screaming to kill Kael, and Noah... he didn’t have the will to resist the invisible control on him.
Maybe it was due to his inferiority complex towards Kael, or maybe something else... but Noah felt bitter after remembering his outburst.
The way he had fought Alicia’s sister, without any reason worth fighting for.
Noah had always been capable of hiding his true emotions and living the life of a humble person... but something had clicked in his mind when Victoria had tried to threaten him by using Alicia’s name.
Though Noah had always tried to deny it... Kael’s presence had somehow invaded the deepest depths of his soul, making him sensitive to anything related to that guy.
And after the awakening of his ability... Noah had felt all his emotions towards Kael amplifying by infinity... if he had to say in the least.
Still, Noah didn’t like it.
He hated being controlled by his emotions and not his logic and sense of self-preservation.
Being an orphan... the only reason Noah had survived well until now was because of his modest nature, and his ability to let others feel at ease around him.
But... Noah couldn’t say the same thing about himself anymore, as he had been like a wild animal when fighting against Kael.
Noah didn’t regret his actions, but he did feel like they were unnecessary.
Had he been in more control of himself... he wouldn’t have made such a pathetic display.
The more the darkness enveloped him, the more Noah thought about all the things that he had been doing incorrectly since coming to the academy.
He had to quickly adapt himself to the ever-changing situations or else... no matter what talent or abilities he had... everything could fall apart with a single serious mistake on his part.
No one was invincible in the world, and Noah being born in nothing knew that the best.
He had to—
’Hm?’
Noah’s thoughts were interrupted as he began to feel the darkness around him dissolving in real time, and along with it... he felt himself again.
The first thing Noah saw after opening his eyes was a plain white ceiling with the smell of medicines floating in the air around him.
"Hm? That must have been quite a deep slumber. You had been asleep for more than a day—Can you hear me, kid?"
The question made Noah shift slightly in his bed, as he raised his head a little to spot the source of the voice.
A woman in her early thirties stood at the end of his bed, observing him with an amused expression on her face.
"I can—"
"Surely you can hear me."
The woman... who Noah believed was the doctor working at the infirmary, began to scribble some words in the notepad in her hands, while walking towards him at the same time.
She had light purple hair, which could have freely flowed till her waist had they not been tied in a high ponytail, revealing her slender nape to gaze upon.
"Your body had been in quite a pathetic state when you were brought here, but I must say... you do have a strong body and a monstrous healing at that."
"..."
Noah simply stared at the woman before him, his eyes mesmerized by her subtle yet magnificent presence.
She should have been a normal doctor working at the infirmary, yet Noah’s instincts, which had never failed him... hinted otherwise.
"Your friends had visited you earlier, but as you had been busy sleeping, the poor lads had to retreat in defeat."
The doctor spoke as she inspected Noah’s body once again, to check for any abnormalities or hidden injuries.
Being touched with such firm authority wasn’t exactly the best feeling, but at the moment Noah’s mind had just stopped registering anything else than the presence of the woman before him.
"You are good enough to be discharged, but your friends will have to wait for a little longer, as the headmaster had asked me to send you at his office, once your slumber had ended."
The doctor, after being done with her inspection, retreated a few steps as she motioned Noah to get up from the bed with a gesture of her hands.
Noah, who was still zoned out, was brought back to reality by that single gesture as if it had some subtle yet commanding presence behind it.
"May I know your name... Miss."
Pushing his body to rise, Noah got up, before standing on his feet, while gazing into the eyes of the woman who looked at him with a raised brow.
"Miss? You sure have a way with words, kid, but don’t try your luck on me."
The doctor gave an amused smirk at the very obvious attempt made by the kid before her.
"Audrey."
Still, she uttered her name, before walking away to attend to the other patients in the infirmary.
Most of them being students from the senior years who were used to getting injured in their live combat training.
Noah closed his eyes for a brief moment to stabilise himself after being asleep for so long. His body felt a little stiff, but other than that, Noah had a feeling that he was at his peak once again.
’Audrey.’
Giving the woman a final glance, Noah spelled the name in his mind as he moved towards the headmaster’s office... to get done with whatever punishment that was waiting for him.
