The words brightened Noah’s expression, stretching his lips into a small smile, but he quickly composed his reaction... as the headmaster was yet to mention the condition for him to be given the chance to redeem himself.

The headmaster drummed his fingers on the table once again, as he stared into the kid’s eyes... analysing the extent of his resolve.

"There would be a tournament in the near future."

Noah’s ears perked at the mention of the tournament.

It wasn’t like he was ignorant about the events in the academy.

The tournament the headmaster was talking about was held for all years, where students fought against each other to increase their rankings, and to also support their faction and its leader for winning the elections for the student council president.

It was one of the biggest events held throughout the year, with the tournament also being broadcasted for the entire world to see.

"For your punishment to be reduced or even cancelled in its entirety, you just have to defeat Kael... and you would be rewarded according to the display you put forth."

The headmaster remained ambiguous in his words, not promising on a single reward, to keep the window of ambition open for Noah.

"It’s as simple as that."

"..."

Noah remained silent as he processed the headmaster’s words.

The condition was far from simple, yet the tone in which the headmaster had mentioned the condition was as if... defeating Kael was a walk in the park.

It wasn’t like Noah was scared to fight Kael or he wasn’t confident in his own abilities... but fighting and winning in a battle against Kael wasn’t as simple as defeating someone with rank similar to the latter.

With a little more experience, Noah had the confidence that he could defeat the seniors in the fifth year who were currently at Platinum 1... but he couldn’t say the same about Kael, who despite being a Silver 3... had managed to stay alive during the battle, and then even went on to evolve his core mid battle to become a Gold 2.

But even that shouldn’t have given him the strength to fight a Platinum 1, let alone someone like Noah whose innate physical abilities were far superior to even vampires or werewolves who had the strongest physiques among all races inhabiting Jutan.

Still, Kael had fought Noah... and with ease without burdening his own body.

"It’s good that you are hesitating to agree."

Noah met the headmaster’s eyes as the latter warmly smiled at him.

"If you had accepted the condition immediately, I would have been disappointed."

The headmaster stood up from his chair before walking towards Noah.

"Being confident in oneself, and having the blind arrogance in one’s abilities are entirely different things. It’s good that you have the intelligence to know the strength of your opponent and understand your own position—"

"I will defeat him."

Interrupting the headmaster, Noah stood up from his seat, standing face to face with the former.

The headmaster raised a brow in surprise, but then nodded his head in acceptance.

"Very well... but to make everything fair, shouldn’t there be a condition for your failure as well."

The words hung in the air, with Noah’s eyes being narrowed in response though he didn’t interrupt the headmaster or argue with him.

He wanted to... but his sense of logic and instincts sent a heap of warnings to not commit any mistake which could very well result in disastrous consequences for him.

Nemur noticed the change in Noah’s expression, but instead of being offended... the sight amused him even more so.

"You don’t have to worry much... I am not some tyrant who enjoys seeing others suffer."

Closing the distance with Noah, the headmaster gently put his hand on the former’s shoulder while lightly gripping it in his palm.

The grip... it was supposed to be light in regards to Nemur’s perception of strength, but for Noah... it felt like the weight of a mountain was crushing his shoulder in real time, though the guy made no change in his expression whatsoever.

"If in case you fail to defeat Kael, you will owe me a favour, which I may... ask you to return—once in your entire lifetime."

Lifting the hand gripping Noah’s shoulder, Nemur raised his index finger as he uttered the words while putting forth the condition in case of Noah’s defeat in the tournament against... Kael.

"And what if I am defeated before fighting Kael?"

Seeing that there was no way for him to change the conditions, Noah switched to clarifying everything for himself.

"In that case..."

The headmaster didn’t complete his sentence, but his expressionless face was an answer in itself.

Noah, having received his answer, stood motionless at his place with the corners of his jaw tightened in the realization of his current situation.

The silence stretched between the two, as the headmaster moved back towards his seat, before elegantly crossing his legs to make himself comfortable on the chair.

Placing his right hand over the armrest of the chair, Nemur rested the side of his chin on the knuckles of his closed fist.

"Alright... I accept your conditions!"

Steeling himself, Noah took a deep breath, before relaying his resolve to the headmaster in a determined yet polite tone, with a newfound energy in his words.

"You may leave."

With everything sorted out, there was no need for Noah to stay in the office.

"Yes, sir."

Bowing his head, Noah turned around before quietly exiting the office.

His words may have sounded determined, but from within, Noah knew the difficulty of the challenge before him.

Still... he would prevail, and Noah was going to make sure of it.

Click.

The door closed with Nemur being the only one left in the room.

Thinking about the condition that he had put forth in case of Noah’s failure... Nemur couldn’t help but chuckle to himself.

He could have bound Noah using a mana contract, but chose not to, as talking with the kid in real time had given him a fair idea of what the latter was.

Since the era of the Divine War... it was for the first time that things had become interesting for him.

First Kael and then Noah, along with the world being played from shadows... Nemur could feel it.

The return of the old times.

The world... it had been peaceful for so long, but not anymore.

The change was about to come, and it was here.

Soon a new war for Divinity would begin, and Nemur... he was going to make sure that this time—

He wouldn’t remain a nobody.
