I had nearly packed everything... at least according to my perceived notion about what packing for a short trip... educational assignment was.

Honestly, it was my first time participating in something like this.

On Earth, I had indeed been admitted to a government school that catered to the education of orphans, but I had rarely attended any classes in that institution.

I had always remained occupied in gathering resources and manpower for the expansion of my ideas... my world.

Building D.X. from scratch wasn’t an easy thing, as the laws on Earth were far stricter than this place, and so was the mentality of the people.

A peaceful life was a daily and usual thing on Earth, making the people tend towards peace more than anything.

Well... at least that was how the masses lived throughout their boring lives.

People like me, on the other hand, prospered in violence, which I believed was the the most basic principle one should always adhere to.

Then there were the governments who always showed themselves as some protectors of the people and all that, but at the end... they weren’t any different than me.

They had their own dark sides, which clashed with me in the shadows of the world, outside the influence of what the eyes of the masses could perceive.

The wars had never stopped, though being honest... I had never been the one to start them.

It was those hypocritical governments who always tried to work above their capabilities to destroy me, but in the end... it was their assets, their reputation and their influence which had been destroyed every time the pests tried to rise against me.

Every clash made me stronger, smarter and more lethal than I had ever been.

The governments... they should have been grateful to me, as I was one and the only reason behind the gang wars being stopped completely. Those very wars had made the living of the general public worse than hell, as anyone could drop dead in the middle of the night only for being present in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Still, instead of the expected gratitude, what I got was a special privilege, with being labelled as the common enemy of the entire planet... the enemy of humanity, and all the cringe lines of justice that were broadcasted every day and night on every news channel out there.

But none of that ever worked in the favour of the governments, as instead of cornering me... they had only amplified the flames of my terror.

And fear... it could be avoided but never evicted from one’s soul.

Standing before the mirror, my eyes stared into the face before me.

This body... this life... I was now Kael, and it was a fact I couldn’t run away from—

Not that I ever felt like doing so.

The character of Kael Frost had always been filled with mysteries and now... I was living amongst them.

Since the ritual, Kael had disappeared from the game altogether, only to be seen in its final arcs... the arc that was believed to be a final one, but never had been.

The power that Kael had displayed during his first and final appearance as a villain wasn’t something to be scoffed at.

Noah, despite his broken abilities and a vast pool of competent allies... had to pour in every last amount of effort to stop the character known as the Game’s Final Boss.

Yet, even after everything... the protagonist had been barely able to defeat the Frost.

Leaving aside the details of the game... even my current reality was shrouded in mystery, despite me being the one inhabiting this body.

I had Kael’s memories, but it wasn’t like all of them were inherited from Kael.

Many details about his family relations were already known to me... so one could say that I still knew Kael from an outsider’s perspective.

I didn’t have his emotions which were supposed to be sacrificed during the ritual, something that I knew from the game, not my current reality.

At the start of my transmigration into this world, many of my thoughts and my line of thinking were different from how I usually thought while being X on Earth.

So who was to say that Kael’s emotions were really destroyed?

His soul had been influencing me for quite some time, and it was just after two years of inhabitation in the body that I had surpassed the influence of his soul, returning to my own way of thoughts and reasons.

So Kael’s soul... wouldn’t it be an equivalent of his emotions... of his character?

Had his emotions truly been sacrificed or was that just the result of sudden influx of power that had broken his mind?

I hadn’t forgotten about the mystery behind the ritual as well.

Someone should have provided Kael with the ritual, or else there should have been some proof left of the place from where Kael had obtained it.

It wasn’t like I had no interest in solving these mysteries, but it was more like I didn’t have any time at the moment.

From all the events, it was clear that someone had been trying to manipulate Kael for some reason, and had used him as a sort of pawn in the original game.

Someone like that wouldn’t be a weakling, so for going against them, I would at least have to become somewhat strong myself.

I couldn’t always dive straight into danger thinking that Arthur would have my back.

Only one misstep... and I would end up dead like any other random person on the planet.

And honestly, that would be kind of pathetic.

Living as some grand mastermind, and dying like an average nobody—

Sigh.

I just hoped such a day wouldn’t knock on my door.

Checking my room for the last time, I walked towards the door, before gently opening it.

Click.

The sound was the same as usual, and—

"You ready?"

There he was... the same usual guy waiting for me.

"Let’s go."

Patting John’s shoulder, the both of us moved through the quiet corridor, with the walls enveloping us from both sides.
