Three Systems Made the Fake Heiress Unstoppable
Chapter 138: Going on a TripChapter 138: Chapter 138: Going on a Trip
"That’s for you to handle. Even though I’m her biological father, I’m a man. I’m not comfortable asking her about these things or having long talks with her, so you’ll have to be the one to do it."
Alice Cole understood. "Fine, I’ll talk to her."
"Alright. I have to get to the office. Pay close attention to her situation and get everything arranged. Find some good schools abroad, figure out what major she wants to study, and sort all that out. Once you do, just send her overseas." Miles York stood up as he spoke, preparing to leave.
"Okay, leave it to me. Don’t worry!"
Miles York didn’t answer. He left the room and closed the door behind him.
Alice Cole’s mood instantly brightened now that she knew what Miles York had planned and arranged.
’I thought he’d really given up on our daughter. But it turns out he hasn’t, and he’s even made arrangements for her.’
’Considering Brooke barely made it through high school—and everyone knew we had to pull strings to get her in—this plan to send her abroad to disappear for a while is a much better solution.’
At this thought, she couldn’t wait to tell Brooke York the good news and hurried off to find her.
After arriving in Southbend, Chloe York found an ocean-view guesthouse near the beach.
She dropped off her luggage and went straight to the beach. As a girl who grew up in the south, being by the sea now made her feel like she had returned to her previous world, not the one in the book.
"Chloe, what a coincidence! What are you doing here?"
Hearing Evan Shaw’s voice, Chloe York turned around and was shocked to see him.
"Evan, what are you doing here?"
Evan Shaw found it a little funny. "I just asked you that, and you’re throwing the question right back at me."
"I’m here for a graduation trip. Plus, the university I chose is nearby, so I came early to get familiar with the area."
"I chose a school nearby too. I’m here on a graduation trip as a little reward for myself, and at the same time, I wanted to come check out my future university. Scout out the place a bit. Don’t tell me you chose Southbend University too!"
From the word "too," Chloe York confirmed that Evan Shaw had also chosen Southbend University.
"Oh my gosh, talk about fate! We’re always bumping into each other by chance, and now we’ve even picked the same university."
Chloe York genuinely felt that she and Evan Shaw were connected by fate.
"Tell me about it. I also think we’re especially fated." Evan Shaw’s face was also full of surprise at their connection. A sudden thought occurred to him, and he asked, "By the way, when did you get here? I arrived yesterday."
"I just got here a little after two this afternoon. I booked my place on the way here, then came straight over after I landed. I haven’t even unpacked yet. I wanted to see the ocean first."
"I got here yesterday around noon. And I found a restaurant that makes incredibly good local food. How about we go eat there tonight?"
"Sure!"
Following Evan Shaw to the restaurant he recommended, they found it was a very ordinary-looking place. It wasn’t very crowded at the moment, with only two or three tables of customers.
As soon as the two of them walked in, the owner came over with a menu.
"Hey, young man! I’ve seen you come in to eat by yourself the last couple of days. How come you brought someone with you today?"
Evan Shaw had tried the food here before and thought it was good, so he had been eating here ever since he arrived. That, combined with his handsome, youthful appearance, made him memorable to the owner.
"This is my classmate. She just arrived this afternoon. You know how good your food is, so I had to bring her to try it."
"Well, I’ll be! I didn’t expect you to bring me business, kid!" After speaking, the owner turned to Chloe York. "Young lady, let me tell you, you won’t find food more authentic or delicious than mine in any other restaurant around here. Just one bite and you’ll know it’s the real deal."
After saying his piece, the owner handed the menu to Chloe York.
Chloe York took the menu. "Alright, I’ll give it a try."
Flipping through the menu, Chloe York suddenly looked up at Evan Shaw. "Let me treat you tonight!"
"Sure!" Evan Shaw didn’t stand on ceremony and agreed right away. After all, they were both here on vacation and would definitely be eating out again. He could just treat her next time, so there was no need to argue about who was paying.
"Then see if there’s anything you want to eat." Chloe York said, offering the menu to Evan Shaw.
"No need. Everything the owner cooks here is delicious. Just see what you want and order that. I’ll eat anything." Evan Shaw said, pushing the menu back to Chloe York.
"Okay, then!" Chloe York ended up ordering three dishes: White Cut Chicken, Sweet and Sour Pork, and Stir-fried Sweet Potato Leaves.
"Alright, it’ll be out in a jiffy!" The owner took the menu and headed to the back kitchen.
"The prices here seem pretty reasonable!" Chloe York had just glanced at the menu; other tourist spots were expensive, but most dishes here were in the 30-something range.
"Exactly. Not only is it cheap, but the portions are generous and the food is great. It’s a total bargain," Evan Shaw recommended enthusiastically.
Chloe York nodded.
"By the way, Chloe, why did you decide to apply to a university here?" Since the food hadn’t arrived yet and they couldn’t just sit there in silence, Evan Shaw started a new topic.
"Because the weather here is like spring all year round. It’s not cold, so I thought it’d be nice to attend university here."
"I didn’t realize you were so afraid of the cold, Chloe!"
"I am. What about you? Why did you choose a university here? Don’t tell me you’re afraid of the cold too?" Chloe York asked him in return.
"You guessed it!" Evan Shaw had indeed chosen to study here because it was too cold back home. Of course, there was another reason: he had investigated beforehand and learned this was the university Chloe York was applying to, so he chose the same one.
Chloe York nodded. ’Most people who choose to come here probably do so because they don’t like the cold,’ she figured. ’And besides, it’s an excellent university.’
The two of them chatted away, completely unaware of a figure outside whose gaze was fixed on them.
Ethan Prescott hadn’t expected that after tracking her down with the information he had, he would arrive only to find Chloe York and Evan Shaw sitting together, laughing and talking.
For a moment, he felt like a husband who had just caught his wife cheating. But that was just his own delusion, of course. Chloe York didn’t give a damn about him, and he had no standing whatsoever to meddle in her social life.
Seeing their conversation growing more and more lively, Ethan Prescott couldn’t take it anymore. He grabbed his suitcase and walked inside.
Hearing the rumble of a suitcase, Chloe York looked over and saw Ethan Prescott. Her good mood instantly vanished.
’Another coincidence? With *him*?’
Evan Shaw’s mood soured as well. ’Why does it feel like this guy is impossible to get rid of?’ he thought.
Ethan Prescott saw clear as day that his arrival had made them both uncomfortable. And if they were uncomfortable, that made him feel just fine.
