Chapter Two Hundred and Eleven
Ahmet hadn’t agreed.
She had seen it in the way his jaw set, in the quiet stretch of silence that followed her insistence. He hadn’t raised his voice. He hadn’t argued the way he usually would. Neither did he yell or scold her like she were a little girl.
But he hadn’t wanted her to go. That was as clear as the day.
’I’m going back,’ she had said anyway.
And this time, it hadn’t felt like two enemies standing their ground. It had felt... different. Like every word carried weight now, they were careful and filled with care, even irritation that sounded like something else.
Strangely, she hadn’t minded it.
The Villa felt colder when she stepped in. Like always, her father’s room was darker though it was morning.
Though they had enough space between them, Demir stood beside her. Or rather, he forced himself to.
Bruises bloomed across his face, dark and uneven. A cut split his lower lip, dried wounds tracing down to his chin and arms. His shoulders were stiff, posture rigid, as if he relaxed even a little, he might collapse.
Her gaze didn’t linger. It started straight at his uncle. He looked angry. Who wouldn’t be? To be captured by an enemy during a fight was humiliating.
Did Ahmet do this to him? The question rose fast but it never left her lips.
"Asli." Her father’s voice cut through the room, sharp and heavy.
Her attention snapped to him.
"Did you verify the proof before delivering it to me?" The question hit harder than expected.
For a second, she said nothing. Her fingers curled slightly at her sides. She had believed Ahmet. Every word.
But Demir... had he truly cleared himself? Did he find his own proof to show Ahmet was making up stuff?
She didn’t know.
And that hesitation, that single moment was enough to trap her between two answers.
Yes sat on her tongue. So did no.
"No," she said finally.
The reaction was instant.
"What?" His voice thundered through the room.
The force of it made something inside her flinch.
Tears burned at the back of her eyes before she could stop them. She blinked hard, once, twice, forcing them back, locking them away where they had no right to be.
What was wrong with her? Her jaw tightened.
Her mind scrambled, grasping for something, anything... and landed on him.
I love you.
The memory came with his voice. It steadied her. The sting in her eyes faded, just enough.
"Asli!"
She straightened immediately. "I brought the documents as you instructed, sir," she began, her voice controlled now, and measured. "I figured while you review them, I’ll mobilize our men to rescue him, upon your orders, of course."
Her gaze flicked, just briefly, to Demir.
If Ahmet was right that Demir knew about them, then he knew she was lying.
Demir didn’t speak. He didn’t move. He just stood there, the anger still carved into his face as if it belonged there.
Her father scoffed, the sound low and dangerous as he flipped through the papers. "These are fake."
The word dropped like a verdict.
"I should have known," he continued, eyes darkening. "The moment the information came from him."
The paper snapped in his grip.
"That son of a bitch thinks he can fool me more than twice?"
Asli’s breath caught, just slightly. When was Demir released and how was he able to fabricate something this quickly?
"You are no longer on the mission to kill him." His voice hardened. "It’s now Demir’s responsibility."
Something inside her cracked. It was small but loud enough. Her eyes shifted again, this time slower. And she saw the faintest twitch at the corner of Demir’s lips.
It was not quite a smile but it was close enough. Her stomach turned. What did he say? What lie did he feed her father to ask her to walk out of this?
She didn’t ask. She didn’t even move. She didn’t dare.
"You prepared your whole life for this," her father went on, his gaze locking onto hers now. "Yet somehow, you fail at the task."
Each word landed, deliberate.
"As if you take everything as a joke. Tell me, how many times have you been to his Villa? Tell me! You went in to save Cole," he continued, his tone edged with accusation. "Then decided to execute your mission. You got in there and came back with this."
The papers hit the table.
"Demir was locked up because of your incompetence." He told her. Her fingers curled tighter.
Now wait a damn minute. The words screamed in her head. He got caught. He was weak enough to get caught. And somehow this is on her?
Her lips parted. Then closed, letting the silence swallow her words.
"Demir," her father called, turning away from her as if she were already dismissed in his mind. "Make me proud."
Demir straightened, as much as his battered body allowed.
"End him. And that cousin of his. As soon as possible."
The shift was complete. Just like that.
Her father’s gaze returned to her, even colder now. "And you."
She held his stare.
"You’ll be training the recruits."
The words didn’t register at first.
Training? That was...
Her chest tightened.
That was for those who had stepped back. Those who were no longer in the field. Had she been demoted? How was it so?
"You’ll do that for a month," he added. "Consider it your punishment."
Punishment.
The word settled heavily.
This was a step down without being named one. It was a quiet demotion dressed as duty.
Her jaw locked, but she didn’t argue and didn’t react. She didn’t give him anything.
"You are dismissed."
She stepped out before anyone else moved.
The doors hadn’t even fully closed behind her when her pace quickened, heels striking against the floor in sharp, measured steps. She needed distance. From the room. From her father. From the way everything had flipped in seconds.
Did Demir tell him? The thought came fast. Her fingers curled slightly at her sides.
No... She shook her head once, almost immediately dismissing it. If he had, her father wouldn’t have let it slide. Not like that.
Her steps slowed as she turned into the corridor leading to her apartment, her mind already working, pulling at threads that didn’t quite connect. She needed to alarm Ahmet as soon as possible.
She didn’t hear him approach. Not until a hand closed around her arm. Her body stilled before her head snapped toward him.
Up close, the damage was worse. The bruises had deepened, swelling slightly under his skin. The cut on his lip had split again, fresh blood lining the edge but his eyes, they were clear.
They were sharp and very much awake. This man wanted revenge. Capturing him in battle was humiliating enough. She knew now that killing Ahmet was his mission, he wouldn’t stop at anything to achieve that.
"You should be thanking me," he said, his voice low, roughened. "Your boyfriend made a fool out of me..."
His grip tightened just a fraction.
"...yet I saved you. And myself of course."
Her gaze hardened instantly, the fear she felt for his life from earlier vanishing without a trace.
"You’re delusional," she said flatly.
He let out a quiet scoff, like he had expected that.
"I won’t warn you again." His tone dropped, colder now. "End things with him. Or I tell my uncle everything I know about you two."
The threat sat between them, heavy and deliberate.
"Don’t provoke me." He released her just as abruptly as he had grabbed her, already turning away like the conversation was over, as if he had said enough. As if he had control over her.
She watched his back for a second.
Then, a sudden thought slipped in. It was a reckless and dangerous one.
"I’m pregnant." The words left her before she could think of the consequences.
He stopped. Just like that. For a moment, he didn’t turn. Didn’t move. The silence stretched, thick enough to feel. Then he looked back.
Slowly.
His expression didn’t change. He was not surprised.
Nor shocked.
There was... Nothing.
Her chest tightened.
"And you’re getting rid of that," he finally said. Just like that. It was plain and dismissive. Just like that
As if she had said nothing of importance. As if it didn’t matter.
That was what hit her.
It wasn’t the words.
Her fingers twitched at her sides, something cold settling deep in her chest as she stared at him.
Was Ahmet right? Did Demir know she was pregnant?
