Chapter Two Hundred and Twelve
"What do you mean get rid of it?" The question came out before she could soften it.
Demir didn’t answer.
His eyes dragged over her face, slowly, and then stopped at her eyes as if searching for something: anything that would tell him she wasn’t serious. He lifted one brow, then the other.
His lips parted slightly, but no words came out. He just stared, his head tilting a fraction, disbelief settling into the lines of his face.
Then a short, disbelieving breath left him. "Have you lost your mind?"
Her eyes narrowed, but before she could snap back, he cut in. "Have you actually thought this through?" His voice sharpened, stepping closer again. "Do you know what my Uncle will do to you if he finds out?"
The words hit harder than she expected.
"And in case you’ve forgotten," he added, quieter now but far more dangerous, "he just ordered Ahmet’s death. There’d be nowhere to hide. I wouldn’t even be able to protect you!"
Silence pressed in for a second. Asli held his gaze. Unflinching and challenging. Like she was daring him to say more.
Then something flickered as her expression loosened just slightly. But it didn’t stay long.
Her chin lifted a fraction. "You were captured by the same man," she said, her voice steady. "So tell me, Demir... do you really think killing him will be that easy?"
His jaw tightened instantly, teeth grinding hard enough to show.
"If it wasn’t for you, he wouldn’t have gotten close to me in the first place," he shot back, anger bleeding through now. "You should be thanking me."
He took a step closer.
"For not telling my Uncle exactly what happened."
Her lips curved. It wasn’t a smile.
"Funny," she said softly. "You should be thanking me too."
His brows drew together slightly.
She tilted her head. "Whatever story you fed him? It would’ve meant nothing if I added everything Ahmet gave me to give to him."
The silence that followed was tight and tense.
"You’re not keeping that baby," Demir said flatly.
Her expression changed.
Instantly.
"Stay out of my issue," she snapped, the words cutting clean.
A faint smirk touched his bruised lips. "Glad you see it as an issue."
Her eyes flashed. "I never called my baby an issue," she shot back, her voice rising now. "And I’m warning you, back off."
Something shifted in his gaze. It became darker.
"I heard you almost lost it." The words landed like a slap.
Asli went still. She couldn’t tell whether he was trying to tell her she wasn’t worthy of being a mother.
He watched her closely.
"You should be thanking whoever made that happen," he continued, his tone laced with something cruelly casual. "They were doing you a favor. You should pray the person tries again... this time, we should all hope he succeeds."
The heat came fast, and she exploded. Her steps were heavy, each one echoing on the floor as she closed the distance between them. Her eyes blazed, fixed on his face, and her hands curled into tight fists at her sides.
"If I find out you had anything to do with that." her voice dropped, low and sharp, each word deliberate, "I will cut your balls off and feed them to sharks and make you watch while they tear them apart."
The silence that followed was heavy and neither of them looked away.
Demir’s gaze met hers, sharp and unyielding, a challenge burning in his eyes. She didn’t flinch and neither did he.
"I’d never hurt you," he said finally, his voice dismissive, "but that child... I have no responsibility toward it." The word ’it’ landed like another slap.
Her jaw clenched, heat surging through her veins. "What did you just call my baby?" she spat, voice rising.
He didn’t back down. "I’m serious. And now that I know you kept some of the proof from your father, I won’t tell him about the baby either. So... we’re even." His lips curled into a small, cold smirk. "But no child of Ahmet’s is staying in this Villa."
Her blood boiled. "Go to hell!" she shot back, spinning on her heel. Her boots clicked against the floor as she stormed away, anger laced with disbelief.
What kind of audacity did he have? To speak to her like that. Killing Ahmet would not be easy, what made him think he was a match for him and Markus?
"Good luck to you, jackass.’ She thought as she continued to walk.
Demir didn’t move to stop her. He just watched her quietly, letting her go.
She knew he knew.
Knew that the moment she walked away from him, she’d be going straight to warn them. It was written all over her.
And still, he said nothing to warn her not to do that. He didn’t even try to stop her. Like even with a warning, even with Ahmet and Markus prepared, he would still win.
Demir was also arrogant. She used to like that about him. But not anymore.
The echo of his words, ’no child of Ahmet’s’ rattled in her mind as she walked toward her apartment, tightening her chest with irritation. How could he say that with such certainty?
"I know my father will kill us both when he finds out but must Demir talk as if he will decide whether my child lives or not?" She said to herself in a whisper.
Then, another thought pierced through the haze of her fury. She had never questioned her adopted father and had swallowed every story he told as if it were gospel. Yet here she was, furious at Demir, realizing that, just like her father had exploded when she didn’t verify the evidence Ahmet had given her, maybe she should have checked everything for herself all along.
By the time she reached her apartment, her anger had sharpened into resolve. She fished her phone out of her pocket, fingers trembling slightly as she typed. She requested records, and any other information from years ago. She needed to know everything about her biological family, about Ahmet’s father, and even her adopted father.
She had questions now. Questions she intended to get answers to, no matter the cost. Maybe, she could save herself and her child with it.
