"True, a true knight!"
These words made Don Quixote widen his eyes, while Sancho Panza beside him gaped in astonishment.
"That's right, a true knight. Can't you see it? Don Quixote, those giants are ravaging the peasants' wheat fields. How can you, as a knight, choose to leave?" Ye Qiyan pointed toward the wheat field, his gaze shifting between Don Quixote and the field.
Sure enough, after hearing these words, Don Quixote looked at the wheat field again, and at that very moment, the windmills in the field—no, those giants—began their rampage.
"Giants! Giants! You see that, Sancho? Those are giants! Thank you for reminding me, great Dragon Knight!"
Sancho Panza looked back and forth between Don Quixote and Ye Qiyan in confusion. He even began to doubt his own sanity—there were only windmills in the field, no giants to be seen.
"Master Don Quixote, those are really just—"
"Enough, Sancho! Are you questioning the Dragon Knight?" Don Quixote excitedly put on his cracked helmet again.
"You're right, Lord Dragon Knight! How can a knight flee from battle? I shall fight them!" He turned his horse around and charged toward the wheat field once more.
"Giants! Face your doom!"
Facing monsters dozens of times larger than himself, Don Quixote showed no fear. He raised his battered lance and thrust forward.
Bang!
The moment the lance tip touched the giant's arm, a gunshot rang out simultaneously. The bullet fired from Black Ebony struck the giant's palm, while Don Quixote's lance pierced through the same bullet hole.
The giant let out a pained howl before collapsing motionless.
Don Quixote rubbed his eyes and shouted excitedly at the giant corpse before him. "Haha! See that, Sancho? I did it! I slew a giant!"
Sancho remained silent, staring in shock at Ye Qiyan beside him. In his eyes, the windmill had been pierced through by a flash of fire from the strange youth's black flute-like object.
"A... a wizard?"
Every bullet Ye Qiyan fired landed precisely where Don Quixote's lance struck. Thirty-four windmills, thirty-four giants, thirty-four charges. Don Quixote showed no fear, his face filled with excitement.
As giant after giant fell, the space within the rice field grew increasingly distorted. Even Sancho rubbed his eyes, for he too began to vaguely see the windmills transforming into long-armed giants.
"Giants? Are they really giants shaped like windmills?"
The world was changing, and Don Quixote was the one guiding this transformation. As the number of giants dwindled, even without Ye Qiyan's gunfire assistance, Don Quixote could pierce through the giants' bodies with his battered lance.
Why? Because in his heart, he had already convinced himself he could do it. Just as he had convinced himself the wheat field held giants rather than windmills. This world's perception was changing along with Don Quixote's beliefs.
Ye Qiyan observed everything carefully. He understood this station's mission was precisely this.
When the last giant fell, Don Quixote stood in the wheat field, covered in bloodstains, waving excitedly at Ye Qiyan and Sancho.
"Haha, Your Excellency Dragon Knight! My friend Sancho! Did you see?! I succeeded! I slew all the giants! I am a true knight!" He raised his lance high, and even his old nag Rocinante somehow appeared majestic and powerful.
"My friend Sancho, I didn't lie to you! Those were giants, and I am the knight who vanquished them! From now on, call me the Giant Knight! Oh, and Your Excellency Dragon Knight, the Giant Knight thanks you for your assistance! You saved me from disgracing the knightly name! I still don't know your name."
"My name is Ye Qiyan. No need for thanks—I merely did what a knight should do." Ye Qiyan's gaze remained fixed on the wheat field, not noticing Don Quixote's movements.
"To commemorate our knightly friendship, please accept this!" A wooden round shield was offered, finally making Ye Qiyan turn back in surprise.
"Give it to me? What will you use afterward?" Don Quixote patted his chest. "I'll have another shield forged! For our friendship, my friend Ye Qiyan, please accept it. From this day forth, we are knightly allies! Should you ever face troubles you cannot overcome, I will surely come to your aid!"
Ye Qiyan initially didn't want to accept it, but after seeing the shield's information, he changed his mind.
[Don Quixote's Round Shield]
[Use it when in danger, and your ally Don Quixote will come to your aid]
[Make him believe he faces formidable monsters]
[As a knight, he will not retreat]
[—Witness to the friendship between Giant Knight Don Quixote and Dragon Knight Ye Qiyan]
Don Quixote and Sancho departed to continue their journey. Watching their retreating figures, Ye Qiyan silently wondered: After experiencing a real battle, would Don Quixote still become the failure from the story? Perhaps flocks of sheep really would transform into enemy troops. Perhaps the Knight of the White Moon truly was a knight. As long as he believed, Don Quixote would charge forward.
"What terrifying power—belief makes reality. I suppose I've altered the plot? If Don Quixote truly possesses such abilities, perhaps he won't become that failure after all. Tsk tsk, I've done a good deed, haven't I?"
"By the way, I wonder if he'll have this ability at other stations too? He probably will. Heh, if that's the case, this is quite the treasure—worth all that acting I did earlier."
Ye Qiyan stroked the unranked wooden shield. If he could replicate this in other worlds... then as long as he prolonged things and gave Don Quixote confidence in victory, wouldn't that make him invincible?
After storing the shield on the train, he immediately hurried back to the wheat field. The thirty-four giant corpses in the field were gradually reverting to windmills. The power of "belief" had time limits—something Ye Qiyan noticed the moment Don Quixote left the field, which was why he'd kept watching.
"Come forth, Processing Station!" It would be too wasteful to let these fantasy monsters disappear without trying to salvage something from them. Fortunately, equipped with the Free Processing module, recycling such large objects became much easier.
[Recycling successful: Long-Arm Giant (Fantasy) Corpse]
[Obtained: Giant Skeleton×1, Dream Crystal×1, Flesh Chunk×1]
While Ye Qiyan understood the skeleton and flesh chunks, what was this Dream Crystal?
[Illusion Crystal]
[When consumed, allows awakening within dreams]
"What does that mean? Lucid dreaming? What use is this thing?" Without pondering further, Ye Qiyan continued his recycling work. Each corpse took ten minutes—thirty-four would require over five hours. But accounting for the giants reverting to windmills, he estimated only about thirteen could be salvaged.
