Transmigration: I Made A Deal With A Man in Yellow
Chapter 72: Sister Friede [5]The distance between us was covered in seconds, and our figures met in the middle, swinging our swords.
The Lion Knight’s sword cleaved through space diagonally, leaving a brown arc in the air, threatening to cut me like paper.
I watched slowly as the attack came down, and instead of blocking, tension coiled again in my legs, and with a burst of speed, I moved 40 centimeters to the side, dodging the attack.
But just before the attack could even finish, the Lion Knight redirected it to where I had moved and slashed horizontally instead.
This time I didn’t dodge.
My arm whipped forward with my katana in hand and met the attack head-on. The moment our blades collided, a wave of force released from the impact and cracked the ground below us.
My purple eyes stared into the Lion Knight’s glowing orange eyes inside the helmet.
My silhouette blurred, and I disappeared.
As if already sensing where I’d appear, the Lion Knight raised his sword above where I materialized, slashing down at me.
Our blades clashed again, and the force of my attack cracked the ground under him even more.
The Lion Knight’s free arm blurred and launched a fist upward with coiling speed, straight towards my head.
My figure blurred and disappeared again, the fist punching nothing but empty air.
I materialized crouched beneath him — my katana still in its sheath, humming and trembling with a dark aura.
I performed a devastating quick draw, the blade rasping against the sheath wall. My blade moved so fast that the dark energy vanished from it.
I saw the Lion Knight’s eyes widen slightly at the attack.
The attack was so fast that some people would have had difficulty dodging it in time, however, the knight in front of me wasn’t just anyone.
His silhouette blurred with such agility and speed that it left an afterimage behind.
My blade slashed the afterimage and for a moment nothing happened.
But then a black arc of energy formed where I had slashed and cleaved through the ground for a couple of meters before stopping, leaving a deep, narrow gap carved into it.
The Lion Knight looked at the aftermath of my attack, and even though I couldn’t see his face behind the helmet, I could guess he was slightly shocked.
"Such power...you are not as weak as I thought." He said.
"Never underestimate your opponent."
If that attack had landed, the Lion Knight would have been cut clean in half, which I had hoped for, but his reaction speed was just too fast.
"Even though you seem weaker than us in rank, your attacks don’t belong to someone of your rank." He nodded. "You really are one of his subordinates."
Huh, what’s up with them calling me someone’s subordinate?
I still didn’t know who they were talking about.
Both of us leaped backward, putting ten meters between us.
Then, in the next instant, we shot forward at the same time and our blades collided in the middle.
Clang!
Sparks burst into the air as steel met steel.
Our figures flashed across the battlefield, crossing and separating in the blink of an eye. Every clash sent another shower of sparks into the air.
The Lion Knight was relentless. His attacks came one after another without pause, every strike aimed at one of my vital points.
I matched his pace, weaving past his blows without slowing down.
To anyone watching, our movements would have been nothing but blurred streaks of black and brown. An ordinary person wouldn’t even be able to follow the fight with their eyes.
Suddenly, an armored fist shot upward, aiming for my jaw.
I raised my palm and caught the punch.
Bang!
The impact shook my entire body, but I held my ground.
At the same time, the Lion Knight’s sword swept in from my left.
I released his fist and stepped back just as the blade sliced through the space where I had been standing.
Taking advantage of the opening, I drew my arm back and clenched my fist.
Mana surged through my muscles as I drove my fist forward. The air cracked under the force before my punch slammed square into the Lion Knight’s chest.
Bam!
The impact sent him skidding backward for nearly twenty meters. His armored boots carved two long trenches into the ground before he finally came to a stop.
A normal punch would have launched a man into the air.
Mine couldn’t.
The Lion Knight’s footing hadn’t broken for even a moment.
"Tsk, I gave my all in that." I clicked my tongue.
That just showed how strong his defense was, because his armor had only a small dent.
"If that was your all, then you’d better run back where you came from." The Lion Knight said before lunging at me.
"Of course that wasn’t my all. Do people from this time know about sarcasm?" I shook my head and dodged a vertical slash by stepping to my left.
My blade tore through the air with a sharp hiss as I aimed for his chest once again.
The Lion Knight blurred and appeared on my left, avoiding the strike with ease. His sword was already descending toward me.
Despite his large frame, the Lion Knight moved with frightening speed.
Mana coiled through my legs, and I vanished from where I stood.
Boom!
His sword crashed into the ground, blasting apart the stone beneath it and leaving a small crater.
A sudden warning ran through the Lion Knight’s instincts, and he ducked.
My katana sliced through the space where his head had been only a moment before.
Neither of us stopped.
Our figures flashed across the battlefield, colliding again and again. Every clash of our blades sent another shockwave rippling through the ruins.
Black met brown.
Speed clashed against strength.
Our swords rang like metal bells, each collision adding another note to the endless metallic symphony echoing through the battlefield.
Clang! Clang! Clang!
Our arms became blurs as we exchanged countless strikes, each aiming for a fatal blow.
I kept targeting his core. It was the only true weak point of an undead creature.
But the Lion Knight’s defense was nearly flawless.
Every opening I thought I’d found disappeared almost instantly beneath his blade. More than once, his skill caught me by surprise.
Not once had my sword touched his armor.
Not once had his touched mine.
The battle had reached a stalemate.
It was only a matter of time before one of us broke it.
A few minutes later...
It happened.
Just as I began a diagonal slash, the Lion Knight suddenly threw back his head and roared.
"FREEZE!"
One word.
That was all it took.
My body locked in place, frozen in the middle of my swing.
...So he’d finally decided to use his ability.
