The giant black hand closed and crushed the Lion Knight with its powerful fingers, or so I thought, because I didn’t get any system message to confirm the kill.

The Lion Knight was still alive and was trying to break free from my grasp by stopping the fingers from closing with his legs.

This guy was really persistent. He was already dead, so could he please just die again?

"Nice attempt, but—" I smiled and looked to my left, where the Eagle Knight was rushing towards us. "—your time now is over."

I increased the strength of the hand and forced its fingers to close around him. The first thing I heard was the cracking of the bones in his legs as they tried to stop it from closing, and then the rest of his body followed.

Then, to add the cherry on top, dozens of spikes protruded from the hand and pierced every part of his body. The sound of metal being crushed and bones breaking echoed around us alongside the Lion Knight’s painful grunts.

Red blood seeped through the gaps in his helmet, dripping onto the ground and painting it red.

"No!" the Eagle Knight screamed. "You bastard!"

Oh, just shut up. Does he want me to go deaf?

He pulled out his sword to attack me, but just before he could reach me, a tentacle rose from the ground like a whip, struck him square in the chest, and sent him flying back like a bullet before he crashed hard onto the ground.

"Did you even watch the fight, or did you forget about my powers?" I shook my head.

I tightened my grip until I heard the crystal-like sound of the Lion Knight’s core breaking.

The system spoke in my head, confirming the kill.

And finally, I had broken through to the next Subrank.

Changes started happening throughout my body. I felt my soul grow stronger and larger, while my mana reservoir increased slightly and refilled to its fullest. Then I felt new strength flowing through my veins. It wasn’t a huge leap, but it was enough. The last thing that changed was that my senses sharpened a little more.

Now, I had to kill the remaining knight.

The Lion Knight turned to ash, slipped from the giant hand, and fell to the ground.

This was my first time creating a giant hand with [Darkness Shaping]. I hadn’t been sure if I would’ve been able to create it earlier since it required a bit of concentration, but it wasn’t that difficult to learn.

The Eagle Knight appeared on my left, his sword silver just like the Lion Knight’s.

He slashed at my ribs, but I avoided it by ducking and returned the attack with a vertical slash of my own, intending to split the Eagle Knight’s hand in half.

The Eagle Knight raised his blade horizontally and blocked my attack, but another strike followed—a knee to the stomach.

His free hand blurred and caught my knee with his palm. The clash of our armor produced a metallic symphony.

"You’ll pay for this!" the Eagle Knight said, releasing an intense bloodlust that was once again nullified by my gift, though I could still feel a bit of pressure.

"He fought as a knight and died as a knight. I don’t know why you’re so angry."

At my command, the giant black hand turned and lunged at the Eagle Knight with speed.

The Eagle Knight kicked me in the chest to push me away while dodging to the side. The giant hand slammed into the spot where he had been standing, cracking the ground and kicking up dust.

I didn’t give him a chance to rest and commanded the hand to attack again. This time, it closed its fingers into a fist and threw a punch.

"You think this will be enough to catch me? I’m not like my fallen brother!"

The Eagle Knight raised his blade, and dark blue energy wrapped around it before he slashed horizontally at the incoming fist.

The giant black fist was split cleanly in half, but just before the pieces hit the ground, I crossed the distance between us in the blink of an eye. My katana screamed through the air as I slashed at his chest.

The Eagle Knight’s eyes widened, and he brought his blade down to meet mine. Sparks burst into the air as our weapons collided.

My swings were perfectly executed, each one enhanced with enough mana to tear through the Eagle Knight’s tough armor.

The Eagle Knight’s defense was nothing short of ridiculous. He blocked every single attack with effortless swings of his sword. His blade was larger than mine but smaller than the other knight’s.

I mean, he was already dead, but I had to kill him again. You get it.

The Eagle Knight blocked a slash that came from the side, but instead of simply blocking it, he leaned slightly, allowing my blade to scrape against his sword and pull my momentum forward.

That movement exposed my right side, so he clenched his left hand into a fist and drove it into my chest.

But I had expected that because I was the one who had deliberately fallen into his trap. I raised my boot and blocked the punch with the sole, creating a loud clap.

"Tsk." The Eagle Knight clicked his tongue while I simply smiled.

The Eagle Knight pulled away from me and, at the same time, spun on his heel, ducked down, and swept at my remaining leg.

I didn’t let him. I threw myself backward into a backflip, avoiding the sweep before landing gracefully.

However, the Eagle Knight was no longer in sight. He had completely disappeared. No sound, nothing. It was as if he had been erased from existence.

But I wasn’t surprised because I already knew he could do that. It was part of his gift, which was really annoying.

Then, as if I were fighting a ghost, I raised my blade behind me. A second later, something heavy and metallic crashed against it.

I flicked my katana with my wrist and blocked another attack that came from below.

I shifted from side to side, dodging every invisible strike that came at me.

My hands blurred as I blocked the Eagle Knight’s invisible attacks.

Just after blocking one attack, a devastating punch to my chest bent my armor inward and sent me flying to the side with a painful groan.

I spun through the air and landed on my feet, my boots skidding across the ground. A moment later, even though I couldn’t see anything in front of me, I felt a disturbance in the air inches from my face.

I pushed mana through my body and snapped my head to the side. The air brushed against my face where the Eagle Knight’s sword most likely had been.

"Stop hiding." I said with a click of my tongue.

I commanded the darkness, and a wall rose from the ground beneath where I believed the knight was standing. Sure enough, something slammed into it.

A few meters away, as if a veil had been lifted, the Eagle Knight became visible again with a slight frown on his face.

"How are you able to block my attacks when I’m invisible?" the Eagle Knight asked.

I shrugged. "I don’t know. Just pure instinct."

"Lies."

I was lying, but why would I tell him my secret? that would be the dumbest thing to do.

Soon after, his figure vanished once again like he had never existed in the first place.

I ducked as the Eagle Knight’s invisible sword sliced through the air where my head had been. I clenched my fist and drove it toward where I thought his chest would be, and my fist connected with something solid.

Twack!

The Eagle Knight became visible again a few meters away, one hand pressed against his stomach.

"You—"

I didn’t give him time to finish. I manipulated the ground beneath him where my darkness circle was still within range, and small hands made of darkness rose to grab him.

The Eagle Knight blurred to the side and slipped free from the grasping hands.

I wasn’t done yet.

I created dozens of spikes that chased him wherever he moved within my range. Then he turned invisible again, disappearing from my sight.

Damn, that was such a cool gift.

Since I couldn’t see him, I expanded my darkness circle to thirty meters and filled it with tall spikes. If the Eagle Knight was anywhere inside the circle, he would’ve been impaled.

"Go to hell!" I suddenly heard his voice from behind me.

My eyes widened as I snapped my head around.

The Eagle Knight’s sword was already descending to slice me in half.

However—

Stab.

The Eagle Knight froze in place.

"Checkmate," I said with a smile.
