(Song Recommendation: Sailor Song)
After Yeon Doha disappeared like that, for a moment there was absolute silence.
Songrik stared at the empty spot on the couch where Doha was sitting just seconds ago.
The empty spot felt unreal.
"Is this a trick?" Songrik said in a trembling laugh. "Did you guys plan a surprise or something?"
Nobody said a word in response.
Because nobody knew what had become of Yeon Doha.
"Say something, anyone...," Songrik could no longer hide his panic. "I can’t feel his pheromones anymore... "
Songrik hoped if he didn’t panic, maybe things wouldn’t turn out to be as he feared.
But he did panic.
And things turned out exactly how everyone present there feared.
Yeon Doha had disappeared off the face of earth.
It was mostly silence and emptiness for Songrik.
The happiest day of his life had become the most horrible one.
The day he would have joined his love forever became the day he was torn away from him.
He felt weak in his legs.
As everyone around him ran and called people to do something or look for Doha, all he could do was stare off into the distance while gauging the scale of his loss.
Doha is gone.
He’s... gone...
Oh...
Secretary Cha called the police to report Doha as missing.
But what could he say...
Where was he last seen?
How did he disappear?
How much time had passed?
Any ideas on where he could have gone?
Where?
Where did he go?
No one had any idea.
The situation became even more complicated when Songrik suddenly went into a shock and fainted.
The doctors revealed the news they were hoping to tell everyone that night.
That Songrik was pregnant.
But another thing told by the doctor broke his heart.
A marked alpha-omega pair essentially become one working unit. They physically cannot survive long without each other.
The doctor told them that Songrik was showing symptoms that typically occurred in case of the death of the marked partner.
The news wasn’t much appreciated.
Even less by Mirae and Soohi.
The two of them were devastated beyond belief after Doha disappeared.
But now was not the time to be disappointed.
A very tough decision needed to be made for Songrik.
Because he was pregnant... his body would get deteriorated a lot faster than it would’ve normally.
So if they wanted to let Songrik live even a little bit longer, they were advised to terminate the pregnancy.
And so was told to Songrik by his parents.
The first response was silence.
As if he was weighing the priority.
If he wanted to live longer and wait for Doha.
Or if he wanted to leave behind the child Doha so dearly wanted to wait for him...
For some reason, he seemed absolutely convinced that Doha would return.
Even when he was dying of mark poisoning.
Songrik made his choice to keep the baby.
He remembered the joy on Doha’s face when he heard they were keeping the baby.
As a result, he was hospitalised and put on pheromone transplant for both his and the baby’s safety.
Soohi and Mirae too returned home. They still going to return just the two of them as Doha had already moved in Songrik.
But they never thought they would return alone like this.
Soohi went to her room immediately and closed the door.
She laid on her bed in silence for a bit.
Then her lips pursed together as she weeped and sobbed.
"Who would clean the kitchen now, you idiot?" She mumbled as she wiped her overflowing tears.
Soohi tried calling Yohan.
The number was still unavailable.
"Goddammit."
Mirae sat on the dinner table.
She could still feel flickering images of Doha walking arou the house, doing one thing or another.
She still couldn’t believe her son had disappeared right in front of her eyes.
It seemed like he would still open the front door and walk in with groceries yelling at Soohi for not helping him carry them up.
Mirae couldn’t stop eyes from looking for him at every corner of the house.
It was heartbreaking how each spot disappointed her.
The first day after Doha passed just like that.
Fast, ridiculously slow and filled with confused emotions.
Just the sheer fact that someone could vanish from their sight just like that couldn’t sink in to their heads.
It felt like a bad dream that each of them hoped to wake up from the next morning.
However, unfortunately, the next day too, Yeon Doha was still gone.
The door bell rang early morning at the Yeon’s family’s house.
Soohi ran out to get the door.
Please be him. Please be him. Please be him. Please be him. Please be him. Please be him.
He mind was shouting at the door.
She flung opened the door and her expression turned down.
There was no Doha at the door.
It was Seo Nabi.
"Oh... you weren’t picking up last night, so I was worried," Seo Nabi said, nervously. "It’s not like I’m worried about you after all the time you avoided me."
Soohi stared at Nabi’s face as she provided various excuses for her visit.
Soohi saw herself in her.
The two most important people in her life had vanished.
Before she knew it, Soohi hugged Nabi.
Nabi froze.
"Hey... what are you doing?" Nabi mumbled in a panic. "I’m really not here for this. I ..."
"My brother is missing," Soohi said.
"..."
"Oh god, admitting it just made me feel how real it is. What do I do, Nabi-ya? Yeon Doha is gone. I don’t know where...but he’s gone... His partner is pregnant and suffering from marking syndrome... Mom is out of it... How would I ever handle it all without him? What do I do?"
Nabi could feel warm drops on her shoulder as her own eyes welled up.
"Why would you be alone?" Nabi patted Soohi’s head as she swallowed in her tears. "I’m here."
Soohi chuckled sadly as she heard those words.
How come I never hear those words from the one person I want yo hear them from?
"Thank you," Soohi whispered in her tears. "Thank you for being here."
