Chapter 414: Clover Council (9)

The crushing weight of Arch-Mage Oberon’s Tier-6 Spatial Lock bore down like a falling mountain. The blue crystal veins along the cavern ceiling shattered into glittering dust, replaced by the suffocating indigo hum of a high-tier containment matrix.

Floorstones buckled under Kyle’s boots. His dark demonic scales groaned beneath the atmospheric pressure, but he didn’t yield an inch. Holding Yua’s hand, he felt the rapid, rhythmic pulse of her blood core racing in lockstep with his own—a shared rhythm forged by the blood-bond they had sealed hours before.

"You can still fight?" Kyle asked through gritted teeth, his breath rising in dark, smoky wisps.

Yua squeezed his hand tightly, her crimson-glass blades flickering with a wild, hungry light. "With you? Always."

"Good," Kyle growled. "Snow, analyze the spatial anchor!"

[Spatial Lock anchor point detected at Arch-Mage Oberon’s floating crystal orb,] Snow’s voice crackled inside his mind, precise and unwavering. [Structural integrity of the spell matrix is at 88%. Physical attacks will be deflected by his passive Mana Aegis, but a localized burst of opposing elemental density can disrupt the core oscillation!]

*"Or you could simply let me rip his throat out from the inside,"* the root-deer’s rasping whisper echoed in the quiet chambers of Kyle’s skull. *"Give me the reins, little demon. I will turn his precious orb to bone and ash."*

’Stay down!’ Kyle commanded mentally, shoving the entity back into the darkest corner of the Intercept Seal. ’We do this our way.’

Across the fractured cavern floor, General Ignatius wiped a smear of dark blood from his wounded forearm, his eyes burning with fury. The **[Hemorrhage]** effect inflicted by Kyle’s spectral shadow claw was still seeping dark energy into his veins, but the iron-willed general forced his body forward, his brass armor clanking heavily against the stone.

"You think a few parlor tricks will save you from the Council?" Ignatius roared, raising his flaming war-hammer high above his head. Fire engulfed the weapon, turning the metal white-hot. "You are an F-rank defect, Conner! A vessel for a rot that will consume this world!"

"Then come take it!" Kyle shouted back.

Ignatius lunged forward, bringing the massive hammer down in a lethal overhead arc aimed squarely at Kyle’s head.

"Yua! Shield!" Kyle barked.

Yua stepped in front of Kyle without a second thought.

**[Sanguine Veil]**

[Consuming Blood Core Density...]

A shimmering, blood-red barrier erupted around them both. The white-hot hammer slammed into the crimson dome with the force of a thunderclap. Shockwaves tore across the cavern, sending loose stone and debris blasting outward. The **[Sanguine Veil]** cracked under the tremendous kinetic blow, but it held just long enough to absorb the initial blast, deflecting the lethal heat away from Kyle’s face.

As the crimson barrier shattered, Kyle sprang forward from behind the fading red energy.

**[Transformation + Demon Scales]**

His stats surged as his black demon scales gleamed against the light of Ignatius’s dying fire. With spatial movement locked, Kyle relied purely on raw, physical speed and combat instincts.

**[Light Combat Skill: Basic]**

Kyle ducked beneath Ignatius’s follow-up horizontal swing. Dropping low to the ground, he drove his left foot into the stone floor, pivoting his body with terrifying power, and swung his right leg—fully wrapped in the jagged armor of the **[Abyssal Talon Manifest]**—straight up into Ignatius’s jaw.

*CRACK!*

The heavy kick landed with sickening force.

**[Passive Proc: Soul Rend + 25% Armor Bypass]**

Ignatius’s head snapped backward as a visible wave of dark force shattered his brass visor. Blood sprayed from his nose and mouth as the **[Soul Rend]** mark flared brightly on his neck. The general staggered backward, his massive frame swaying like a falling tree.

"Now, Yua!" Kyle yelled.

Yua didn’t hesitate. Even without **[Crimson Step]**, her baseline agility as a pureblood vampire was staggering. She vaulted over Kyle’s shoulder, her soft boots brushing his dark scales, and hurled two dense, spinning rings of blood magic straight at the remaining two Shadow-Stalkers who were trying to flank them.

**[Blood Edge: Executioner Flurry]**

The crimson blades whirred through the air, cutting through the stalkers’ void-woven cloaks like paper. The stalkers fell to their knees, their magic circles collapsing as Yua landed softly in a low crouch between them, her red eyes gleaming with absolute lethality.

"Vespera!" Arch-Mage Oberon called out from above, his voice losing its robotic calm as his floating orb wobbled under the sudden disruption. "Restrain the vampire! The boy’s output is destabilizing the secondary matrix!"

Lady Vespera stepped forward, her hands weaving dark, shadowy threads into a shimmering web. "With pleasure."

Vespera whipped her wrist, sending a dozen dark shadow-tendrils racing across the floor toward Yua.

"Not on my watch!" Elara’s voice cut through the chaos.

A roaring wall of orange fire erupted between Yua and Vespera’s shadow-tendrils. Elara stood near the rear of the cavern, her golden eyes blazing, her hands outstretched as she maintained a continuous torrent of flames to block the Council mages from interfering. "Keep going, Kyle! Break the orb!"

"Kyle! The ceiling!" Yua shouted, lunging back toward his side.

Kyle looked up. Oberon was gathering a massive concentration of blue mana around his floating orb, preparing to cast an absolute area-of-effect stun spell to neutralize the entire room.

[Warning!] Snow’s voice chimed rapidly. [Target spell completion in 3 seconds! You must reach the orb immediately!]

"I can’t leap high enough under this pressure!" Kyle gritted out, the spatial gravity pushing down hard on his shoulders.

Yua looked at him, her dark eyes flashing with determination. "Yes, you can. Trust me!"

She dropped into a firm stance, crossing her hands in front of her waist to form a step. "Jump!"

Kyle didn’t hesitate. He took two heavy steps forward, plant-stepping his booted foot directly into Yua’s combined hands.

With a fierce cry, Yua flexed her pureblood physical strength, tossing her entire body upward as she hurled Kyle into the air.

The spatial pressure fought against him, but Kyle channeled every remaining drop of his energy into his hands.

**[Dark Flames (Lv 5): Divergence Flames]**

[Consuming 400 Demon Energy...]

Pitch-black, roaring flames erupted from his palms like thrusters, overcoming the downward gravity and propelling him straight toward the floating Arch-Mage!

Oberon’s eyes widened behind his blue illusion mask. "What—?"

Kyle soared through the air, his transformed demon form cutting through the blue mana field like an arrow. He drew his right hand back, the jagged shadow-armor of his **[Abyssal Talon Manifest]** roaring with dark, unstable flames.

"This is for forcing us out into the cold!" Kyle roared.

He drove his shadowed talon straight into the center of Oberon’s glowing crystal orb.

*BOOM!*

A deafening explosion of dark fire and shattered crystal echoed through the cavern.

The Tier-6 Spatial Lock instantly shattered!

The crushing atmospheric pressure vanished, replaced by a massive backdraft of wild, uncontained energy that blasted Arch-Mage Oberon backward into the stone wall. He hit the granite with a brutal thud and slid down to the floor, unconscious, his glowing orb reduced to useless, smoking fragments.

Kyle plummeted from the ceiling, landing gracefully in a three-point stance on the fractured cavern floor, black flames still dancing across his shoulders.

With the spatial lock gone, the heavy silence of the cavern returned, broken only by the ragged breathing of the defeated Council vanguard.

General Ignatius was on one knee, clutching his fractured jaw, his hammer lying uselessly beside him. Lady Vespera looked between her fallen arch-mage and the dark demon standing before her, her silver mask reflecting the dying black flames on Kyle’s skin.

"Retreat..." Vespera whispered bitterly, grabbing the back of Oberon’s collar. She shattered a purple smoke pellet on the floor, engulfing herself, Oberon, and the bleeding Ignatius in a thick cloud of shadow magic. "This isn’t over, Kyle Conner. The Council will hunt you to the ends of the earth!"

When the purple smoke cleared, the three high-ranking Council figures were gone.

Kyle stood still for a long moment, his chest heaving. Slowly, his **[Transformation]** receded. The dark scales dissolved back into his skin, his leg returned to normal, and his dark flames flickered out, leaving him standing in his torn shirt and simple boots.

He stumbled slightly as the post-combat fatigue hit him.

Before he could fall, Yua was there. She caught him around the waist, pulling his arm over her shoulder and supporting his full weight against her soft frame.

"I’ve got you," she whispered into his ear, her cool hand resting over his heart. "I’ve got you, Kyle."

Kyle looked down at her, a weary but genuine smile breaking across his pale face. He leaned his head against hers, smelling the sweet jasmine scent on her skin. "We did it."

"We did," Yua agreed softly, her crimson eyes shining with warmth and pride. She raised her face, pressing her lips gently against his cheek before turning her gaze toward the dark escape tunnel at the back of the sanctuary. "Now... let’s get out of here before anyone else tries to ruin our day."

Elara walked over, wiping sweat from her forehead, a tired smile on her face as she looked at the two of them. "The rear tunnel leads straight down into the Shadow Ridge valleys. The Council won’t be able to track us through the dense ley-lines there."

Kyle looked back at the forty-seven refugees, who were slowly standing up from behind the stone benches, looking at him not with fear, but with profound gratitude.

"Alright," Kyle said, taking a deep breath and tightening his arm around Yua’s waist as they walked side-by-side into the dark tunnel. "Let’s find our new home."
