True Incubus: The Demon with No Limits
Chapter 239: I think I made a friend.A/N: Important thing, guys.
Rhydan is not weak. He is easily one of the greatest prodigies in the Supernatural World who has been training for decades. Lucian has only been a part of this world for a few months.
Defeating him would be too far-fetched.
...
The Demon and the Werewolf continued fighting each other for thirty straight minutes without a clear victor.
Lucian, while in the air, formed a moving fortress around himself with dozens of barriers rotating in separate layers.
Rhydan jumped at him and attacked. He managed to break five barriers, but by the time he was done, Lucian replaced them with ten more.
BOOOM
He released all his force through a punch, shattering one side of the fortress, but again, this was not enough to reach Lucian, who had already moved away.
Rhydan landed on the ground. Just as he did, a stone flew from below and struck his jaw. A few larger ones appeared from the other side, he crushed them all, and when he turned around, he saw Lucian standing right in front of him.
One-Inch Dominion.
Rhydan crossed his arms and blocked. The force still pushed him back half a step. More stones struck the back of his legs, forcing him down onto one knee.
A sight that the Werewolves behind him stared at with utter disbelief.
Though at this point, Lucian did not care about their reaction.
He raised his hand, a massive amount of debris appeared above him, forming several rings around the Wolf, perhaps trying to bind him but—
BOOM BOOM BOOM
The Wolf destroyed them all.
The dust moved into his eyes, he closed them. Lucian used the chance to punch him again, however, this time, Rhydan actually managed to grab his fist.
"Got you."
Rhydan spoke as he glared at Lucian with his golden eyes shining intensely.
Lucian grinned back.
"Same."
The next moment, more dust fell directly into Rhydan’s eyes. His grip loosened instantly, Lucian flew back, and hundreds of pieces of debris around him were about to crush Rhydan, wounding him to some extent, or at least that was what Lucian hoped but just then—
CREEECK CREEECK
Strange sounds came from the corridor. Both Rhydan and Lucian noticed it. The two stopped at the same time, Rhydan forced his eyes open to see what was happening, then—
CREEECK CREEECK
The walls shifted.
"...what’s happening?"
Naomi questioned with a frown.
Together with the walls, the floor split as well. A massive stone wall rose directly between Lucian and Rhydan.
The sections of the corridor began moving in opposite directions as if their groups were being separated.
"The maze is changing."
Isolde spoke with a solemn look on her face.
"Changing...?"
Naomi tilted her head in confusion.
"This is the Trial of the Unseen Road. Aevrienne wouldn’t give anyone a chance to study her maze, so she’s changing it."
"Why didn’t it happen before this?"
"It did."
Sabine answered.
"I saw it twice already.
You probably did not because you were too deep inside the maze."
"That would mean others are catching up."
Isolde narrowed her eyes.
Naomi’s frown deepened as she stared at the maze changing in front of her very eyes.
As for Lucian—
He stared at Rhydan through the still-narrowing space.
The Wolf stared back at him.
Neither of them looked happy.
They wanted to keep fighting, they wanted to see who would win.
To end it like this, it was... disappointing.
"Let’s meet outside, Demon."
That was when Rhydan spoke up, grinning at Lucian.
Lucian grinned back. For a moment, he actually wanted to fly towards Rhydan, to continue the fight, but Naomi was still here. He couldn’t possibly leave her, no matter how much he was improving through the battle.
"I’ll pay you a visit, Wolf."
He made a future arrangement.
"I’ll be waiting. If you don’t come quickly, I’ll come find you on my own."
"Sure."
The two continued grinning at each other like madmen, those fiery eyes glowing intensely.
The wall between them closed, separating them completely.
"Heh."
Lucian laughed at that.
The debris around him fell to the ground, the barriers disappeared as he landed.
And—
The place was completely silent.
Naomi, Isolde, and Sabine stared at the new wall, then they stared at Lucian, whose smile hadn’t disappeared.
"What are you smiling about?"
Sabine asked curiously.
"I think I made a friend."
The three women stared at him with deadpan looks on their faces. Dense Demonic Energy was still leaking out of him.
Isolde stared at that energy filling the corridor and—
"What... is that energy...?"
She asked curiously.
Lucian smiled at that, then he covered his right eye with his hand and—
"It is part of the power bestowed upon me by the Dragon God. A heavy duty whose burden I must bear."
He looked at Isolde and chuckled.
"You must have seen through this power even before I revealed it, no?"
Isolde blinked at that, then, as if she remembered something—
"T-That is obviously correct."
She nodded, keeping her chin high.
"I was merely giving you the opportunity to explain it yourself."
"As I would expect from the Witch of Cursed Chaos, the protector of the World."
Lucian nodded. Isolde raised her head even further.
That was when Lucian appeared beside Naomi and extended his hand.
"Now, it is time you pay."
"...what?"
Isolde blinked.
"Pay what?"
She frowned.
"You made a bet, did you not?"
Naomi instantly remembered it, then her eyes widened with joy.
"Yes! You made a bet!"
She had only accepted the bet out of spite, so she didn’t really remember it, especially since she was too surprised by everything she was seeing.
Lucian, however, was different.
He heard everything.
And he remembered.
"So what if I made the bet? You didn’t win, so she doesn’t get anything."
Isolde snorted.
Naomi’s smile froze.
But Lucian—
As mentioned before, he heard everything.
And he remembered everything.
"The bet wasn’t about me winning."
He grinned.
"Remember, if Lucian loses, you help me find three Waymarks.
That was what you said.
Naomi agreed to it and then answered with,
And if he doesn’t, you give me ten thousand silver.
And you agreed.
I didn’t lose.
So you owe her ten thousand silver."
Isolde couldn’t believe it. Naomi, on the other hand, nodded very strongly. Now that Lucian had said it out loud, she recalled it as well.
"Yes! The bet was never about Lucian winning, it was about Lucian not losing! They are two different things!"
She clenched her fists in excitement.
"But you did lose! You were about to surrender!"
Isolde was not having it.
Lucian, however, had a way—
"You can’t possibly be thinking of going back on your word, are you?
You understand how much power your words hold, no? If you do not honour those words truthfully, the words themselves would lose their meaning, truths and lies would become impossible to differentiate.
It would...
It would unleash a deceitful chaos.
As the Witch of Truthful Chaos, you cannot let that happen."
Lucian spoke with a serious look on his face and Isolde—
"I-I know that, obviously.
I was merely jesting."
She agreed and Lucian smiled, all while Naomi stared at him with a flat look on her face.
