VRMMO: World's First Glyphborne

Chapter 382: Why Won’t you just die?

"Are you okay? Val? Val... Are you okay?" Lucy shook Valerie softly as she sat above her, her hands quickly and desperately darting all over Valerie’s body searching for injuries. Had it not been for the illusion hiding her appearance, it would have been easier to spot the multiple scrapes across her face from where glass fragments had cut her.

But not even the illusion could hide the fact that her left arm was bent half way down the forearm, a section that was definitely not meant to bend at all.

Valerie slowly stirred, her head ringing slightly which the shrill screams and panicked shouts of the jewellery store workers was absolutely not helping with. She eventually focused her eyes on the worried face of Lucy, and moved to wave her off before hissing in pain.

Using the other arm, she tapped Lucy’s arm and gave her a half-hearted smile.

"Yeah, I’m good. If you hadn’t grabbed me, I would have been a hell of a lot worse."

Lucy let out a sigh of relief as Valerie sat up to meet her, before her eyes darted to Valerie’s snapped arm.

She grabbed a nearby shard of glass, holding it to her own palm.

"Do you need any help with that? I can give you something to drink." Lucy asked, already pressing the glass into her palm.

Valerie quickly grabbed her arm and shook her head. She flashed Lucy another pained smile as she shifted her arm so it was held against her stomach.

"I’ll live, don’t worry about it. But how is that thing not dead? You cut off its damned head."

The pair turned their heads to the Purple Giant, gazing at it through the trail of destruction they had left in their wake, as their faces fell in despair.

The Giant’s spine erupted from his neck, squirmed in the air like a centipede - to the point that its spine had even warped to have jagged legs of pure bone that wriggled as it burst forth.

The spinal centipede dove into the other half of the neck, lifting the previously severed head into the air and reconnecting the two halves. Speaking of halves, the head that had been split down the middle snapped and reorganised itself. Completely restructuring its face into something even more ugly all to clamp the gaping skull back together, whilst the eyes bulged out massively from their time starved of oxygen.

The Giant’s legs snapped and reorganised themselves, losing the fatal human weakness as they became Digitigrade and it didn’t stop there. Hundreds of sickening cracks and pops were heard coming from the creature as it lost all semblance of a human shape.

The guts that had been spilling out of its cut open stomach became tendrils that waved in the air. Intestines turned snakes, including new mouths and fangs made of shards of bone.

"I... I don’t know how we are supposed to kill that thing... Is it even possible?" Lucy stuttered, her face completely washed with despair as she watched this thing stand up from what should have been a fatal strike, and become even more horrifying and animalistic.

It was using its intestine tendrils to grab people and devour them, even whilst they were still alive.

Valerie looked over it in defeat, her mana vision flaring as she searched for any sign of hope or the answer to Lucy’s question. She hoped that it would be at least draining its mana levels from all the regeneration, and that it would be a stalling effort.

But it was growing stronger in mana levels too, especially now that it was feasting.

However... through the gaping gash in its chest, that exposed its beating heart, Valerie finally see where all of that power was going. It’s biology was constantly changing, and its strange skin had been hiding it from her, but now she could see it.

Right in the middle of the nest of intestine snakes, at the very centre of its disgusting and deformed body, was its source. A wretched source that was pulsating with the same vomit inducing energy that emanated from its body, and from the body of that strange man.

As it grew and adapted, she could see the source flare with power, pushing that disgusting mana to the point of mutation.

Valerie groaned in pain as she slowly clambered to her feet, before glancing at Lucy with a pained smile.

"I’m sorry about this next part, but you’re probably going to have to carry me home."

"Wh-what? I don’t understand. What are you going to do?" Lucy asked, as she watched in bafflement as Valerie sunk into a runners start.

Her one good arm on the ground to support her, and her frail legs set behind her ready to sprint. Frail legs that could barely handle her walking, nevermind running.

That was until Valerie pumped mana into them.

Her muscles flared beneath her disguise. Her calf’s bulging and expanding massively before she pushed off.

She disappeared in a blur, carried through the trail of destruction like a phantom, all from a single push of her leg.

She landed beneath the monstrosity, making sure to stop herself with the other leg as she sunk into a crouch immediately, before leaping upwards. Pushing off again with a single leg, as her body shot straight up.

The Intestine snakes snapped at her, trying to grab her when she stopped, but the next moment she was bursting through its back, with her hand held triumphantly above her and a deep purple crystal clutched tight in her hand.

The creature reared back its head, letting out a shrill ear-piercing screech of true, agonising pain as it whipped its head towards Valerie.

She landed feet first, which immediately gave out beneath her as she collapsed in her own hellish pain. Her muscles squirmed beneath her skin as they felt like they were being eaten from within, even after she had stopped supplying mana to them.

Without thinking about it, Valerie tossed the putrid crystal into her mouth and winced at the horrific flavour. But the moment that it started to dissolve into a liquid that her body eagerly absorbed, the creature let out another hellish screech.

Its body convulsed, growing uncontrollably as it seemed to grow hundreds of balloon-like tumours all across its wretched and abominable form, before all of those tumours burst all at once.

With one squelching pop, the creature burst into a rain of black viscera, spraying the surrounding area in not just its own blood, but the blood of the victims it had devoured. Anyone within the ’splash zone’ was splattered with a viscous black sludge that covered them in such a wide variety of different people’s DNA, that it allowed them to finally understand what a hotel room bed felt like.
