"Ugh, Disgusting." Valerie muttered to herself as she sat in a pile of rotten gunk, whilst wiping even more of it off of her face. Between the urge to vomit and the agonising pain causing her leg muscles to convulse like they were being electrocuted, she wasn’t sure which was worse.
"Va- Belladonna, Are you okay?"
Lucy quickly came over, placing her axe down and helping Valerie clean herself off. But she wasn’t alone in her approach.
It didn’t take long for them to quickly become surrounded. First by the other ’combatants’ that they had to babysit, then there were the ’reporters’. A mixture of actual journalists and news reporters, as well as various streamers and people who thought they were famous with their 170 live stream viewers.
Countless glowing eyes stared at them, their every movement and facial expression being recorded and broadcast all around the world for everyone to see. Which was why it was so comforting to be in disguise.
"Woah, You were amazing! How did you do that? You must be really high on the power rankings!"
"Wait, did you say Belladonna? Like THE Belladonna? The Baroness of Blood? I knew that she lived around here!"
"That must make you Vestra? Or Maybe Saige? Yeah, You’re totally cute enough to be Saige!"
"Damn, that’s a cool axe. Where did you get it from? It looks so real! Mind if I try it for a second?"
Lucy scowled as the Axe leapt from the ground and into her hand, away from the grubby hand that was already reaching for it without even bothering to wait for permission to their question.
They were surrounded by a deluge of voices, each spurting out mindless drivel and questions they had no intention of answering, with some of them being rather invasive.
"Belladonna! Do you have a boyfriend? I bet you’d love to go out with me, I’m level 51 on the power rankings!"
"Liar! No you’re not! You got bumped down to 117 ages ago! You should date me, I’m level 64!"
The pair of wannabe suitors broke out into a squabble, before a devolving into a pathetic slap fight that was definitely so impressive and sexy. What woman wouldn’t want to date someone like that?
But they weren’t the only ones. A few were arguing, making demands of dating or pledging their love. Some were even already reaching out to touch them, creepily brushing their hands over them or grabbing at their clothing.
"Get us out of here, now." Valerie said to Lucy, between winces of pain.
She nodded quickly, easily scooping Valerie up into her arms and swinging her into a piggyback ride, treating Valerie like she was a backpack.
With a push from Valerie’s bloodline, they were given some breathing room as an invisible force nudged back plenty of the crowd, giving Lucy enough space to reel her arm back and launch her axe into the air.
It sliced cleanly through the air, arcing well over the crowds head and flying so far down the street that it disappeared from sight.
At the same moment, a new party entered the crowds by force. Enforcers, clad in their fancy full plate armour, emblazoned with the logo of their corporate sponsors, lest the lower classes forget who they belonged to.
They were a well equipped force, with swords, shields and axes of their own. Some of their members had mechanical limbs whilst others were equipped with standard heavy rifles.
They pushed through the crowds, their heads held high as if their inflated egos resided in their chins and were trying to lift them off the ground.
"You there, Stand down. We have some questions for you and your friend, you will come with us and-"
"Not interested." Lucy barked, cutting off the pompous Enforcer, as she raised her hand towards her thrown axe and spread her fingers.
The next second, the pair of girls was yanked off of the ground and dragged into the sky, as if an invisible fishing line had hooked through Lucy’s wrist.
She flew through the air like a superhero, eventually catching up with her axe and wrapping her fingers around it before she dismissed it back to the soul space it resided within and simply let her momentum carry them through the rest of her arc.
Before they hit their landing site, which was the roof of a shorter apartment block, Valerie gave them a cushion of air to land on.
Landing lightly on the roof, instead of crashing through it, the girls disappeared into the building and switched their disguises back to their original forms, or the original disguise in Lucy’s case, and blended into the crowds once they reached the streets.

A few hours later, the pair of them strolled down the streets surrounded by images of their own illusion disguised faces. It was strange, to have nearly everyone in the entire city discussing you and obsessing over you, yet not recognise you when you walked right passed them or even when they bumped into you and blamed you for it.
But that was exactly why they did it. Between Percy and Jason, Valerie had seen plenty of what popularity could do to someones life, and how the public could ruin them.
So whilst she was technically public about her existence, in the sense that she was on the power roster and was not afraid of public appearances, she was not going to allow it to be her real face that was plastered all over the news.
This was creepy enough.
Already there were talk shows and podcasts and the likes going into as much detail as they could, trying to figure out their identities. They were crafting conspiracy theories, analysing the strangest of details and speculating on everything they could see.
Thankfully a lot of their attention was focused on the ’staff’ that ’Belladonna’ had been using, which kept them from thinking about Valerie and her cane.
Of course, the company that controlled the Enforcers absolutely knew who they were already. They had taken their tests under their real names with their real faces, after all. But she had a feeling that the company that had keeping this scale of secret would be good at keeping others.
And if they didn’t and exposed her identity, well she would blow that obstacle up when she came to it. For now, however, it was good to be anonymous.
Stepping into Smith’s shop, Valerie put on a sweet smile as she was about to ask if their equipment was ready yet.
But before she could get out a single word, the Russian grumbled himself.
"Well, Look who it is. Pretty lady celebrities that have been all over the holoscreens. Pretty lady celebrities that better not have led cameras and unwanted guests back to my shop."
