Chapter 31: Ancient and Colossal’s.

"Done? You take your sweet time talking on the phone."

Alexandra complained. She had been seated on the bench for quite some time while Liam was on the phone with two people. Still, she had her car to stare at, and somehow it looked more gorgeous with every glance, so she didn’t complain much.

"Sorry, finance."

Liam shrugged his shoulders with a casual flex and gave her his hand to help her up from the bench. They were not staying here anymore and would go shopping next. Liam also got a text from his old bank that Peacock Inn had deducted $7,000 from his account.

In the old account, I have $986,182. They texted me just for seven thousand dollars? Wait! I’m being absurd. Seven thousand is a massive sum, and I’m using a debit card, so that’s reasonable.

His old account was shared with his parents, and the card he used was only a debit card, so his dad must’ve also noticed the transaction. If it was the old him, like when he was in high school, an earful was the least Liam could’ve expected.

Liam opened the Flying Spur’s door for Alexandra, then gestured for her to follow him from behind and went to his own car. He sat in the driver’s seat, and as usual, everything turned crystal clear around him. He was about to start the car when his phone suddenly rang.

"Dad? Isn’t he at work at this time?"

"Hello, Dad?"

"Liam, where are you?"

"I am going to buy some nice clothes for myself. Why do you ask?"

"Promise me you are not doing cocaine, call girls, or hookers."

"I promise. Why do you ask?"

"I will call you later. You might want to recheck your transaction with Peacock Inn."

*BEEP-BEEP*

Liam looked at the phone strangely. It took him a moment to realize why his dad had behaved that way with him, and he would’ve never imagined hearing his dad use the word hooker while talking to him.

"That’s something new."

With a smile on his face, Liam shook his head, started the car, and drove toward the parking facility he had used for Clara’s car yesterday. Alexandra parked inside and paid five hundred dollars for a membership package that gave her a month’s worth of parking.

"Take care of my baby."

"Ma’am, don’t worry. We have 24/7 surveillance, controlled access, and staff monitoring the facility. Your car will be safe here."

"Do you think I care about money?"

Clutching Liam’s arm slightly, Alexandra barked at the young man in charge of the facility. He was also one of her classmates whom she didn’t get along with, so this was simply her way of taking some petty revenge.

"I am sorry, ma’am."

"You better be. I am very attached to this car emotionally, so I was just making sure. Let’s go."

Saying this, she turned around and left the parking facility with Liam, a smile hanging on her face as she enjoyed this little revenge way too much.

"Attached emotionally? You got this car an hour ago."

"Shut up, you’re buying me new clothes."

-_-

....

Liam drove through the streets of Princeton and smoothly entered the freeway. The dealership had filled the gas tank to the brim, and he was heading toward Manhattan. He knew a few custom tailors there who could make him something good.

"Why go so far into New York? Just get some Ralph Lauren from Palmer Square here."

Alexandra sat beside him like a proper lady, and when he mentioned that he was taking her to New York, she just couldn’t make sense of it. For her, Ralph Lauren in Princeton was already some of the most expensive clothing around.

"Those brands are trash. Look at me, the way I’m built now. I want something comfortable and nice to wear, not something just because it costs more."

"Is that so?"

"Yes, I’m not even sure they would sew me something. They’re usually booked for months. I’m gonna throw money at them if I can."

Alexandra rolled her eyes. The more she stayed with this guy, the more she realized just how limited her worldview was. Liam had earned his money himself and clearly knew what the fuck he was talking about, unlike her, who usually shopped at Walmart.

He would’ve been a pain in the ass if he wasn’t this nice.

...

Liam parked the SUV in front of a shop covered almost entirely by glass. Above the closed door sat a simple sign, ’Baker & Sons,’ while a small plaque hanging behind the glass clearly said ’Closed.’

Rumor had it that this place only opened when some beautiful fairy descended from the heavens. Otherwise, you could literally see people moving around inside, working like normal, yet the plaque on the door would still stubbornly say ’Closed’ as if everyone outside simply didn’t exist.

"Liam, this shop is closed."

"Let’s see if I can get in. They make extremely nice clothes, so I can’t miss it."

This was the store the Silverschild family had sent him to when he was about to enter their household as a son-in-law. Liam smiled as he remembered that day. Although his downfall started sometime after that, the feeling from back then was still with him.

For the first time, I fell in love and was about to marry her, but... to think that family could even manipulate love is still crazy to me.

If he hadn’t been the victim himself, he wouldn’t have believed it either. It had all started subtly. His recommendations on YouTube, Instagram Explore, and other places slowly began to change. More and more movies from the fifties appeared for him, some recommended and others available for free. Slowly, he started admiring actresses from that era, and only then did he catch his first glimpse of her.

Merilyn Doe Silverschild... the only surviving child of John Silverschild.

Liam’s new Bentayga didn’t even catch that much attention in Manhattan, and somehow, even his bathrobe felt normal in the middle of New York chaos. Liam walked up to the glass door and knocked on it three times in a specific rhythm.

The people inside, who had been ignoring him all this time, stopped their work almost immediately and looked toward the door. Seeing a man wearing nothing but a bathrobe standing outside, they looked at each other for a moment before a door deeper inside the store opened and a girl wearing a maid outfit rushed toward the entrance.

"Welcome to Baker & Sons. Recommended by?"

"Lukas Martin..."

"Mr. Martin? Well!!"

Liam spoke a name they couldn’t confirm immediately, or maybe ever, with a smile on his face. Lukas Martin, a sole man who shook the entire Wall Street fifteen years ago, a man almost as powerful as those ancient finance families like the ’Silverschilds.’

They can barely contact a side family of Silverschild, forget about a colossal titan like Lukas Martin. Last time Erto sent me here to humiliate me in front of my in-laws, but I still like this place.

"Let him in."

A powerful voice sounded from a man nearby. He was wearing a white shirt and black pants just like everyone else in the room, but unlike everyone else, he never stopped working. His eyes remained on the clothes in front of him as he focused on cutting them precisely.
