"So, he looked at your girl with a weird gaze?"

A middle-aged man sat in the middle, wearing a white striped shirt and a sweater that looked very minimalistic, but with one glance, anyone could tell it was expensive. With one leg crossed over the other, he simply sat there while several New York police officers stood behind him.

"Yeah, he was disrespectful to my girlfriend."

Liam nodded confidently at Erto Silverschild. The store manager, Jonathan, stood behind the police with his head lowered and a fresh black eye swelling on his face. Jonathan was one of Erto’s close aides. He had been placed here to assist and butter up the people Erto wanted to work with, not cause trouble, yet somehow he had ended up doing exactly that.

Erto looked Liam up and down. He could tell almost instantly that the boy came from money. The car outside, the premium clothes, and the extremely attractive older woman sitting beside him were all obvious signs. The only thing stopping Erto from acting however he wanted was the hunt he had with the main family in about two months, and he wasn’t sure whether causing trouble with some unknown rich family now would come back to bite him later.

"Why were you chasing after him, though?"

"I just wanted an extra bag. He ran for his life, so I assumed he was a thief and punched him once. The whole store was also murmuring something, so I wanted to be a local hero. That’s all."

"Ridiculous... Sigh! Jonathan, apologize to this young man and let the matter rest."

Erto pinched the bridge of his nose in frustration after hearing the completely bullshit story coming out of Liam’s mouth. He had used this exact technique plenty of times when he was younger too—bullshit your way out of trouble simply because you could, especially when you had enough money and connections behind you.

"But... Master Erto, I—"

Jonathan’s protest died the instant Erto turned his head towards him.

"I am sorry, sir. It won’t happen again."

Jonathan lowered his head immediately. Liam looked towards Erto, who looked back at him with the broad smile of a peacemaker before standing up, acting almost like a judge who had just closed a troublesome case with a happy ending.

Am I this easy?

Liam smiled slightly. This man’s desperation really knew no bounds. From Erto’s behavior alone, Liam could roughly guess where he currently was in the timeline of his life. He was either preparing for his sister’s marriage or getting ready for the upcoming hunt with the main family.

"So, the case is closed, young man. Good luck with your purchase. My family owns most of this block around here, so that’s why I stepped in. I hope you don’t mind the setup."

"Oh, no. It’s understandable. It was my fault as well for causing a scene in public."

The police left first, followed by Jonathan, while Erto personally walked Liam out of the Apple Store’s conference room. He clearly wanted everything to end as smoothly and quietly as possible, especially with so many customers still outside wondering what the hell had happened.

"No worries. I have a plane to catch. By the way, did you buy that car from Ecstasy Autos in Princeton?"

"Yes."

"That’s why it looked familiar. I was the one who ordered that car to be made road legal, so I guess I kind of helped you out."

"Yes, sir, you did. How about I return the favor? I can tell you one secret, but you have to choose one."

Liam smiled as the two of them stepped outside the store. Almost immediately, Erto’s bodyguards moved closer and surrounded the three of them, their large frames forming a loose wall around their boss.

Alexandra instinctively tightened her grip around Liam’s hand after seeing the heavily built men closing in. She had been so nervous around Erto and his people that she had barely spoken a word this entire time.

"It’s alright. I have everything I need. It was good meeting you, Liam Carter."

"Are you sure? It’s about a perfectly preserved collector’s piece... a gun."

Erto had already started turning away when Liam said the last word. His step stopped almost instantly. He slowly looked back at Liam, the polite smile on his face changing into something far more interested.

At the end of the day, he was still a Silverschild. Money could get him almost anything he wanted, and he certainly wasn’t going to accept some random favor from a kid like Liam. But collector pieces were different. Money could buy expensive guns, but genuinely rare ones with history behind them didn’t simply appear whenever someone wanted one.

Got you! So it’s hunting season...

Liam smiled broadly and stepped closer to Erto. One of the bodyguards immediately moved to block him, but Erto stopped the man with a single raised hand, his eyes never leaving Liam.

"Saddam Hussein’s personal Ruger M77 bolt-action rifle. It eventually ended up in the hands of a CIA officer before being auctioned off. The current owner is facing a serious financial crisis, so if I were you, I would buy it from his hands and relieve him of that problem."

Liam leaned in and almost whispered the words directly into Erto’s ear. The moment Erto heard what the weapon was, the casual interest on his face disappeared, replaced by something much sharper.

That rifle wasn’t simply an expensive collector’s piece; it carried a piece of history with it, both for the United States and, strangely enough, for the Silverschild family. The person Erto was trying to impress had personally funded a small percentage of the war back then, which made a weapon tied directly to Saddam far more valuable to him than its actual price.

"I know that gun. It was said that the new owner was some mysterious billionaire."

"Nope. He’s a nerd from California. Likes to play GTA 5 all day, and that’s why he bought it so casually. Now he’s broke."

"What’s GTA 5?"

Liam looked at the middle-aged man with an amused smile, almost forgetting for a second that he was talking to someone from 2015. Without explaining any further, he simply asked for a pen and paper.

One of the bodyguards immediately brought both over, and Liam leaned against the nearby railing before writing down his old classmate’s address from memory—the same guy who had actually bought the rifle after selling his parents’ house following their deaths.

"If I really get to buy this gun, I’ll call you."

*VROOM*

Erto’s car window rolled up, and the Rolls-Royce pulled away from the block almost instantly, its long black body disappearing into the Manhattan traffic within seconds.

Liam remained standing there with Alexandra, watching it leave with a broad smile on his face. This was the beginning of his revenge. Even now, he could still remember that horrible pain twisting through his stomach in his previous life, the hunger that slowly ate away at him until he eventually died from starvation.

"He didn’t even ask for your phone number. How can he call you?"

Alexandra asked as Liam opened the car door for her. He didn’t reply and simply walked around the Bentayga, sat down in the driver’s seat, started the engine, and smoothly pulled back into traffic towards Princeton.

"He’s a very powerful guy. Getting my number is nothing to him. It’s simple. If my information actually helps him, then I’ll become valuable enough for him to bother saving my number. If the tip turns out useless, he won’t even bat an eyelid wondering who the fuck I am."

To think, he didn’t even use his monstrous Skill and Speech while dealing with me. He still thinks I’m some lesser creature, right? Show me his status once again.
