She was starting to understand. To gain Intelligence Value, she usually had to accomplish great things in the mission worlds, such as saving the world, changing the world, or performing some deed of great merit.

Of course, this was just her guess. She hadn’t tried to confirm it with the Beauty System, not that she would get a straight answer from it anyway. However, she could verify her theory herself. It would just take a bit of time and effort.

The little mouse, however, had no idea what was on Tan You’s mind. It was immune to Arrays, but that didn’t mean it was an expert in them. Thus, it couldn’t understand what Tan You was up to. In any case, if the sky were to fall, Tan You was the tall one who would hold it up.

As for Tan You wanting to make things happen, being her most devoted friend, it would certainly be there to cheer her on. Beyond that, there wasn’t much else it could do.

’So why waste my own energy thinking about it? Just gotta latch onto a powerful backer and cruise along.’ At this thought, the little mouse did a happy little roll, its long, slender tail swishing back and forth, clearly in an excellent mood.

Tan You was diligently researching a master-servant contract that demon beasts could use on Cultivators. In the past, it was always Cultivators who formed contracts with demon beasts; never before had a demon beast turned the tables to become the master. As such, Tan You’s research was truly groundbreaking.

Even so, the Heavenly Dao would still send down a Heavenly Tribulation from time to time, clearly displeased with her actions. Tan You just treated the Heavenly Thunder as if it were scratching an itch. Her body was tough as hide now, and she wasn’t afraid of being struck; it was just a good way to loosen her up.

The moment she succeeded in creating the reverse master-servant contract, Tan You was baptized by a wave of Heavenly Tribulation, one arguably no weaker than the one she faced for her Divinity Transformation. She was blasted until she was covered in dust and grime, and as she crawled out of the crater, the ordeal only served to ignite the fighting spirit in her core. "I’m seeing this through to the end."

These frequent tribulations told Tan You everything she needed to know: the Heavenly Dao was completely biased. It blindly favored the Human Clan, so what about the demon beasts? ’Are demon beasts just supposed to struggle for survival in the margins?’

Even though she wasn’t a demon beast, putting herself in her client’s shoes, Tan You found the Heavenly Dao to be truly unjust. ’If that’s how it is, then I’ll just have to get stronger and unite all the forces I can.’

At this thought, Tan You waved her sleeve, erasing the master-servant contract that had been formed from Spiritual Power. This Array lacked the Heavenly Dao’s blessing, but Tan You didn’t care.

She wasn’t so shameless as to crave the blessing and approval of an unjust entity.

The mouse flew onto Tan You’s shoulder. "Huanhuan, what’s our next move?"

A faint smile played on Tan You’s lips. "Next, naturally, we’re going to go find a powerful backer."

The mouse staggered. "A powerful backer? Huanhuan, you’ve never said anything like that before."

Tan You shot it a glance. "With my current strength, can I do whatever I please in the Ten-Direction Mountain? Can I enter and exit the inner circle without a care in the world?"

The mouse shook its head honestly. "You can’t."

Tan You wasn’t annoyed. "So we need a plan. First, we have to unite all the forces we can. For example, how about we go to the inner circle and find a powerhouse to back us?"

"Only with a few powerhouses providing support can we accomplish what we set out to do."

The mouse immediately accepted Tan You’s reasoning. "Alright, when do we set off?"

Tan You suppressed the turbulent energy in her chest. "First, I need to recover from my injuries. ’That was vicious.’"

The mouse tapped its little paws together. "I think it’s because demon beasts were never good with Arrays before, but now that you’ve figured one out..."

Tan You just smiled faintly. ’This little mouse’s view is too shallow. How could it be that simple? If demon beasts were to master this type of Array, then Human Clan Cultivators would no longer be able to control them at will through master-servant contracts.’

’This would undoubtedly be a massive blow to the Cultivators who have long relied on the power of demon beasts. But so what? Whether human or demon beast, everyone has the right to live in this land. No one should be able to stand above anyone else.’

Tan You’s injuries were indeed severe this time. While she did use the Heavenly Tribulation for Body Refining to improve her constitution, she was truly tormented in the process. For instance, after every Heavenly Tribulation, she needed to spend several years recuperating.

This time, however, Tan You didn’t wait for her injuries to heal completely. After recovering half her strength, she and the mouse entered the inner circle of the Ten-Direction Mountain.

From the moment she had arrived in this world until now, Tan You had never willingly entered the inner circle. There was no other reason for this than the fact that it was simply too dangerous. She was only at the eighth rank, a cultivation level that was not high enough to qualify her for entry.

But now, to advance her grand plan, Tan You could only bite the bullet and charge in. Fortunately, her inherited memories proved reliable. After she concealed her aura, her form seemed to meld with the grass and trees of the Ten-Direction Mountain. As long as she didn’t use her Mana, other demon beasts wouldn’t be able to detect her at all.

The mouse also possessed a divine ability to hide its form. ’Perhaps this is the power of inherited memories,’ Tan You thought. ’Just a trace of an ancient Great Demon’s bloodline can grant all sorts of strange and wondrous abilities.’

After entering the inner circle, Tan You stopped letting the Beauty System out. She could easily handle the little thing herself now, but who knew what lurked within the Ten-Direction Mountain? ’If the Beauty System gets instantly destroyed the moment it appears, will I be trapped in this Cultivation World forever?’

That was why after the mouse joined her, Tan You rarely contacted the Beauty System in this world. ’Who knows what’s lurking in this little mouse’s inherited memories?’

Furthermore, her Divine Sense was formidable now, but keeping it active at all times in another’s territory could easily be taken as a provocation. Thus, Tan You and the mouse were extremely careful on their journey, worried that a single misstep would lead to them being casually obliterated by one of the resident powerhouses.

"Huanhuan, which lord are we actually looking for? Didn’t we pass through Cang Long’s territory last time? Why not seek it out?" That evening, while camping out in the open with Tan You again, the mouse finally couldn’t hold back any longer.

Leaning against a tree with her eyes closed in thought, Tan You replied, "Cang Long is certainly powerful, but it can’t command the respect of the masses. We need someone who can, someone with great prestige."

The mouse licked its paws. "Then... shall we go find Lord Bai Ze?"

Tan You’s eyes snapped open. "There’s a Bai Ze in the Ten-Direction Mountain?"

The mouse sat up straight. "Of course. You didn’t know?"

Tan You stared. "My inherited memories are all about fighting and cultivation. They never mentioned a Bai Ze."

The mouse offered a perfunctory attempt at consolation. "That’s because your kind excels in Combat Power and emphasizes improving personal strength. For us treasure-hunting mice, we’re always searching for treasure and latching onto powerful backers, so being well-informed is a must."

By now, the mouse had become quite fluent in the art of latching onto powerful backers. For the treasure-hunting mouse clan, rising through the ranks was all about finding the right backer. It wasn’t the least bit ashamed to admit it.

If you do something, you should own it. People who do things but refuse to admit them are far more contemptible—like those who want to erect a monument to their own chastity after, well, you know.

The mouse sniffled. "There are legends of a Bai Ze in the Ten-Direction Mountain. As for whether we can find it, that’s up to fate."
