Adam landed with a soft thud, his gait confident and purposeful. He wore a wide grin as he approached his parents in the kitchen.
"Someone’s in high spirits." Jenny stood up and met her son with a joyous smile on her face. "For a moment there you had me worried." Mother and son shared a warm hug, dispelling all previous worries.
"Hehe, I would say it was worth the pain." Adam said as he pulled back, his smile unabated. "And don’t worry, Mom. I’m fine. More than fine, actually."
"You don’t say," Jenny chuckled softly, warmly ruffling the hair on his head. She only had what Adam mentioned earlier, but to her, it made no difference. As long as her son was fine and happy, then it was enough.
"Congratulations, son," Jon patted his son on the shoulder. "And happy birthday."
"Happy birthday, Adam." Jenny added, turning to the table where the cake lay waiting. "Go ahead and make a wish."
Adam pulled a chair and sat down, his parents taking a seat as well. He leaned forward and stared at the cake and other dishes for a moment, thinking. A sudden gleam shone in brown eyes as he made his wish.
"Yey..." Adam’s mother clapped cheerfully as Adam blew out the candle lights. "My baby is finally a man."
Jon looked on with a proud smirk, his arms folded over his chest. As a man, nothing made him happier than seeing his wife and son happy. He watched as Jenny guided Adam for the first cake cutting.
Another round of applause came from Jenny, who seemed to be the most invested in the birthday ceremony. She proceeded to cut the cake for the family, making sure Adam had the biggest share.
The family of three enjoyed a serene breakfast while Adam shared a few details about his awakening to his parents. Naturally, he mentioned possessing dual affinities. The first one was physical, and the second was multi-elemental.
Adam didn’t really go into details, as he mentioned not quite grasping everything pertaining to his second affinity. Multi-elemental was a broad term and could mean a lot of things, hence his choice to mention that.
His decision to say this didn’t come without reason. There were people out there who had affinities pertaining to more than just one element broadly categorized under the same umbrella of multi-elemental.
And multi-elemental affinity would grant him all the attack power he needed while masking any other unusual abilities he might unlock in the future... or at least until he was strong enough.
"Wow... I didn’t know my boy was so talented that the universe granted him such affinities." Jenny muttered, quite shocked at what she heard. "Not only did you awaken a physical affinity, but it feels like the affinity is to strengthen your body for the burden."
When her husband had mentioned that she might have given birth to a genius, she thought it a passing comment. Who knew he would be right on the mark? While she was right, it was more like his genius status was freely given to him.
But how common were people with multi-elemental affinity? Adam was not aware, but that number could be counted on one hand. They were as rare as hen’s teeth.
"I’m proud of you, son," Jon stated calmly, his brown eyes meeting his son’s. He knew there was more to the Genesis affinity Adam mentioned earlier. The fact that Adam came up with such a cover was what made him proud. "Though I’ll have to remind you... don’t grow arrogant."
"Your father is right, sweetheart." Jenny nodded, realising the truth in her husband’s words. "Many have fallen due to extreme arrogance in their abilities. Don’t fall victim to the same mindset."
"I understand," Adam replied with a resolved expression. "Dad has been telling me this since he started training me."
"And I’ll keep reminding you," Jon reaffirmed with a smile and added. "With that being said, you’re at least allowed to bask in the light of your awakening. Just for today."
Jenny chuckled softly, the moment of bliss lifting her spirit. She loved seeing her husband and son bond like this. It always made her happy. Though they sometimes took their bonding too far... especially during their training sessions.
"Alright, let’s finish this before it gets cold. It took a lot of effort to make." Jenny stated as she looked between father and son, and sighed softly. "And I know a training session will follow soon after."
"Hehe. You know us so well."
The family of three continued with their meal, making small talk as they discussed future plans for Adam. When they got to this point, Jonathan became silent, a thought surfacing.
’The academies in the city might no longer be good enough,’ Jon thought to himself, glancing at his son. ’His physique, unique skill and affinity have inadvertently pushed him into the ranks of geniuses.’
Although proud to have had Adam awaken such terrifying attributes, he was also worried. The current world order did not favour the talented if they had no backing to speak of.
But Jon was not entirely helpless. He could ask a favour from his boss. As long as Adam displayed a bit of talent, he should be able to get him into the top academy for the talented.
’We’ll need to have a long talk soon.’
Jonathan was prepared to do everything possible to get his son the best training in their region. Although everyone could awaken, the rate of evolution and realm advancement was not the same. Natural talent played a crucial role, and his son might just be one of such beings.
After all, there was no way he would awaken all that if he did not have the potential for it. He could feel it in his being... Adam was destined for greatness. All his son needed to do was work hard.
On the other hand, Adam was thinking about how he would show off a bit of his strength to his friends. All of them had awakened before him, giving them a head start. Now, however, he was certain he had overtaken all of them.
’This is going to be fun.’
