While Others Evolved, I Understood Reality
Chapter 6: A Monster In The Making"Ready whenever you are, son."
Down in the basement of the three-bedroom family house, Adam faced his father, who stood a few meters away. The basement, reinforced with materials capable of handling the power of fourth realm awakeners, housed multiple training equipment, various weapons, and a space big enough for martial arts training.
Adam had spent most of his childhood here, and at the school he attended. He had completed basic school a year ago and stayed at home awaiting his awakening before beginning the next phase of his life.
His martial arts were not top-notch, but he was better than average. And now that he was awakened with a physique designed for adapting and efficiency, he was eager to see how fast his growth would explode.
At the signal of his father, Adam smirked and shot forward with surprising speed, momentarily taking his father aback. He was faster than anyone at his level should be.
’Well, I’ll be damned.’
Jon thought as a proud smirk graced his stern features. He quickly recovered from his shock and blocked the blow, his eyes widening on contact.
’First realm?!’ he inwardly exclaimed, his shock growing.
He knew the power those at the first realm possessed, and what his son was displaying was not it. Adam’s power rivalled those at the peak of the first realm, and he had just awakened today!
Unconcerned about the thoughts swirling in his head, Adam continued on the offensive. Every move he made was designed to break his opponent before they adapted, just like how his father taught him.
Adam unleashed a flurry of blows and kicks at incredible speeds and efficiency, targeting any and all openings he found, forcing his father to adjust his strength and technique to match the offensive.
’What the hell am I seeing?!’ Jon could not believe his eyes. The Adam he knew was not supposed to be this good, much less this efficient. His moves were clean, with barely any wasted moves.
But that was not the worst of it. ’He’s improving in real time!’ The observation sent a cold shiver down Jon’s back. With every move they exchanged, Jon’s expression grew more solemn.
Adam continued to optimize his moves, switching and coming up with new moves when the previous ones did not work. He began unleashing moves his father had not even taught him, intent on breaking through his father’s iron-clad defence.
’His breathing and pacing aren’t out of sync either.’ Jon realised, experiencing the greatest shock of his life. ’I don’t think geniuses are supposed to be this good!’
It was beyond anything he had ever seen or heard. Truthfully, he was scared.
After carefully observing his son for a few more minutes, Jon decided to increase the tempo, throwing in a few attacks of his own. And to his horror, Adam mirrored his defensive moves to nigh perfection, blocking and evading as though he had clairvoyance.
’This is absurd!’ The more he saw, the more shaken he was. ’Just what kind of attributes did this boy awaken!?’
The tempo increased further as Jon went on the offensive, intending to see just how absurd his son had become. A flurry of strikes came at Adam in rapid succession as he employed techniques he hadn’t used on his son before.
The boy struggled for the first few minutes, taking a few blows and kicks to the chin, shoulders and gut. But Jon wasn’t deceived. With each strike Adam failed to read, he adapted, his martial arts skills improving in real time. Soon, the same strikes could no longer break the boy’s defences.
The two combatants moved across the room in a blur of movements, the air exploding with muffled booms. Several exchanges later, Adam’s father had seen enough. The martial art he had taught the boy was a basic one. But with how Adam was improving, it was only a matter of time before he improved it and made it something uniquely his.
"I think I’ve seen enough," Jon said as he employed a set of moves that went over Adam’s ability to perceive. He struck Adam with enough force to send him flying into the padded wall.
"Ugh!"
Adam groaned in pain as he slammed into the wall before sliding to the floor, wiping off the confident smirk he had carried throughout the spar. He winced as he slowly sat up and leaned against the wall, his breathing barely out of rhythm.
"A simple stop would have sufficed, Dad." He grumbled. "And that strike was a cheat. You were supposed to match me power for power. Your words, not mine."
Jon silently stayed at the boy he called his son, his mind still reeling from the shocking revelation that his son might be a monster in the making. With a resigned sigh, he approached Adam and sat beside him, his gaze distant.
Realizing that his father was about to have a deep conversation with him, his smile vanished. He knew the strength he had just displayed was beyond the norm, and he wanted his father to know for that exact reason.
"How are you feeling?" Jon began with a simple question, glancing at his son’s side profile from the corner of his eye.
"Like I haven’t done anything too strenuous," Adam replied, his expression thoughtful. "The description of my physique says my body is built for adapting to anything and at the same time being efficient. I have three times the explosiveness, strength, speed, durability and endurance in the same realm."
Jon’s eyes narrowed as he heard his son talk. Just as he had expected, Adam’s power rivalled peak first realm awakeners. The physique was a lot more powerful than he had imagined. By the time Adam actually reached the peak of the first realm, he would be able to overwhelm those at the second realm with utter ease.
"And your unique skill?" he asked.
"I’m able to perceive and understand anything I set my eyes on, allowing me to recreate it and even optimize and improve it."
"!!"
Jon’s heart thundered as his son casually talked about what his unique skill was about. It explained why his martial arts improved so much in so little time. ’He’s more monstrous than I thought.’
"Adam..." Jon called out softly, his expression solemn. "I think you know what you need to do, right?"
"Mm, I know." Adam nodded. "The tallest tree catches the most wind. Don’t worry, Dad. I know how to hold back."
"You’ve become smarter, too." Jon chuckled softly, glad his son understood his dilemma. He glanced at his son again, thinking to himself. ’To think I actually sired him...’
