Why Are the Psychos Obsessed with a Mere NPC?
Chapter 167 - 166: Sheng Yue’s ProjectPei Yin was keeping a close eye on Jian Yu’s situation.
Someone fired the first shot.
He immediately followed up.
"You should keep this safe. It can soothe the pain of the Threshold Devouring Period, and if you put it with an Alien Beast Egg, it might even speed up the hatching process."
Xi Mu’s face was filled with shock.
From the live broadcast, he only knew that Jian Yu had soothed a rampaging horde of beasts.
"It can soothe an Awakener’s Threshold Devouring Period? And it can also speed up the hatching of an Alien Beast Egg?"
Xi Mu froze for a moment, subconsciously starting to walk toward the corner of the room.
Chu Qianqian helplessly pulled him back.
Xi Mu came back to his senses and sucked in a sharp breath.
’Even the Alliance would have to treat her like royalty, wouldn’t they?’
’Just like they treated his son back then.’
Chu Qianqian picked up one of the sachets and took a delicate sniff, her almond-shaped eyes narrowing slightly. "The scent... it’s very similar to the one I smelled during my Healing session just now."
’Smelling it a second time still made every pore in her body relax in comfort.’
’What a thoughtful gift.’
Chu Qianqian suddenly felt that her own gift was inadequate.
Her mind began to rummage through her personal inventory, looking for what else she could give, planning to make up for it later.
Jian Yu’s expression was tense. The more nervous she became, the colder her face looked.
"I came in a hurry and didn’t prepare a proper gift. I hope you don’t mind."
She had heard from Shen Gu that Xi Yu’s father was also a Level 3S Awakener.
The sachet looked ordinary and unassuming, but to a high-Level Awakener, it was more precious than anything.
Jian Yu said conservatively, "The scent can last for a month."
Pei Yin chimed in, "Even when the scent fades, the effect won’t be much weaker."
He knew Jian Yu didn’t plan on hiding her ability.
The Alliance and several other planets had also just extended olive branches to her.
So he decided to help build up her reputation.
"Uncle, you’re Level 3S, so the pain of your Threshold Devouring Period is no less than ours. You should keep one for yourself. As for the rest, you can have the Half-awakened members of your family wear them when they form a Contract with an Alien Beast."
Xi Mu sniffed the air.
He gave Jian Yu a deep look. "The aura on this is from your Soul Beast, isn’t it?"
Jian Yu pressed her lips together and decided to go along with it. "Yes."
’The more she said, the more mistakes she could make. Fortunately, she was a conversation killer and couldn’t find anything to talk about anyway.’
Xi Mu was a shrewd businessman.
He proposed, "Does it take a lot of effort to make these? Is it tiring?"
Jian Yu thought for a moment and shook her head. "No."
"A partnership, then? Daughter-in-law?" Xi Mu’s eyes lit up.
"I’ll handle the shop, shipping, operations, and after-sales service. I’ll provide the sachets themselves. You just supply the finished product to me on a regular basis, and all the profits go to you. I’ll even cover the taxes."
He laid his personal interests bare. "However, I also get to choose the buyers. And no matter how many you supply, I will reserve forty percent for the Xi Family."
Jian Yu’s eyes shone even brighter than his. "Deal!"
’When it came to money, her social anxiety vanished.’
"Besides sachets, other items will work too."
She could easily fill her Space Ring with pouches, jade pendants, and other accessories, and let them infuse for a day.
"When the time comes, I’ll ship the items to you. You take the goods, then mail the Space Ring back to me."
Xi Mu’s heart skipped a beat. "Once a day?"
Soul Beast Skills all consume energy. Drinking medicine to recover would only let one hold on for a little while longer.
Sometimes, after leading his family members to hunt Mutant Beasts, he would have to lie down, exhausted, for a long time upon returning.
Xi Mu had originally been thinking once a month.
He understood the look in Jian Yu’s eyes. It was the exact same greed that he himself felt.
"Let’s do once a week."
Jian Yu had no objections.
Just then, a Star Coin Card was handed over.
Xi Mu shot his son a glare of disappointment. "A meeting gift. It’s not much. You’ve been wronged by having to be with Ayue."
Jian Yu stared at the flickering numbers on the Star Coin Card, her eyes widening.
’So many zeros.’
Chu Qianqian’s eyes curved into a smile. "Go on, take it."
She covered her mouth and let out a sleepy yawn.
Her body hadn’t felt this relaxed in a long time. Right now, she desperately wanted to get a peaceful night’s sleep.
Jian Yu noticed the tears the yawn had brought to the corners of Chu Qianqian’s eyes. "We’ll head back to school for now, then. We’ll come visit you again next time."
「The Starship returned to the school.」
Jian Yu clung tightly to Ling Yanzhi’s neck as he flew them up to the Starship.
Once he sat down, she was just about to get off Ling Yanzhi’s lap when she turned and saw Si Xu firmly plant himself right next to her.
Jian Yu stared at him for a moment.
A ripple of emotion gradually spread across Si Xu’s cold, stern expression.
Pei Yin saw this scene unfold. ’I can’t stand it,’ he thought, ’but I also want to learn how to do it.’
Xi Yu didn’t give him the chance, quickly occupying the spot on her other side.
Now flanked on both sides, Jian Yu turned her head to look at Ling Yanzhi behind her.
Ling Yanzhi shifted his legs.
He chuckled softly and pulled Jian Yu further into his embrace. "It’s fine. You’re not heavy."
Pei Yin switched to a different seat.
His view was mostly blocked by Si Xu.
He shook his hand, producing a JINGLE-JANGLE sound. "I didn’t go to all the trouble of coming along just to stare at the side of your face."
’Can’t you take a hint?’
Si Xu glanced over coolly and began reciting scripture.
Pei Yin frowned. "You’re disturbing the widower while he’s browsing the forums."
Jian Yu: "..."
Xi Yu paused. His tea-brown eyes lifted, holding a hint of scrutiny. "I’m the third, right?"
Pei Yin was truly at a loss.
He ran a hand through his hair. "I can’t believe I can actually understand what these lunatics are saying now."
Si Xu stopped his recitation. "He’s not."
Pei Yin gritted his teeth. "You just had to butt in and mock me, didn’t you?"
Xi Yu’s eyes were still staring intently.
Pei Yin really wanted to rush over and slap that stare right off his face.
"I can’t speak for anyone else, but I know Si Xu. As his friend, I have total faith in his character—total faith that he’s up to something."
Xi Yu replied with a blank "Oh." "I saw it. I knew even without you telling me."
He looked up, his tentacles twitching eagerly.
The scent of battle began to spread, but fortunately, the Starship stopped at the auditorium rooftop just in time.
Jian Yu breathed a sigh of relief.
Pei Yin was so irritated that he decided to head back to the research institute. "My words are harsh, so I’ll be leaving first."
Black wings unfurled, and he vanished.
Si Xu bent down and held out his hand, white feathers spreading from his back. "Come back with me."
Jian Yu refused to indulge him, her voice hard and cold. "Six days was enough. See you tomorrow."
Si Xu straightened up, his expression unreadable.
Ling Yanzhi lifted his gaze. "Don’t push your luck. She doesn’t just have one man to appease."
’Jian Yu thought the same thing, but hearing someone else say it out loud was still a bit mortifying.’
Before the system came to get her, she would treat these people like characters in an otome game, immersing herself and playing to her heart’s content.
Si Xu had appeared right when Jian Yu was about to fall for Ling Yanzhi.
Developing feelings for a fictional character was a terrifying thing.
Because the beginning and the end of the game were not in her hands.
A flash of white light passed, and Jian Yu narrowed her eyes.
Her silence had angered Si Xu into leaving as well.
Ling Yanzhi grabbed Jian Yu’s left hand and wiped it on his own waist.
His eyes were downcast. "Don’t be in a rush for class tomorrow. Go to District 2 first. The project you’re participating in started two days ago."
Jian Yu tried to pull her hand back. "Okay."
District 2. The project.
On the surface, it was organized by a teacher, but in reality, it was Sheng Yue’s project.
Later in the plot, the original heroine used this project to get in touch with Sheng Yue—that untouchable flower on a high mountain—and was subsequently introduced to Xi Yu and the others through him.
There was a line in the story where Sheng Yue praised Xu Jianjuan’s talent with medicine.
Not long after that point in the plot, he issued a Yellow Card to the people who were bullying the heroine, taking her completely under the protection of District 2.
But now, Xu Jianjuan had avoided the plot. She hadn’t provoked the nobles or their rules, nor had she been targeted and attacked by the academy’s noble cliques.
Instead, Yan Qin, a student specializing in incubation, had joined the project.
Thinking about tomorrow gave Jian Yu a faint headache. She didn’t know anything about medicine, either.
