There was so much here that Futong Commerce could learn from. She jotted down every detail, planning to hold her own stores to this standard.

’But the free, high-end makeup in the fitting rooms, the expensive aromatherapy... would Li Yang really be willing to spend money on all this? Unlikely, right?’

She handed the clothes she was holding to the sales consultant, Xiaoxin. "Thank you, I’m just going to look around a bit more."

Xiaoxin smiled. "Of course. This is our freshly ground Blue Mountain coffee. Please, have a taste."

While she had been trying on clothes, Xiaoxin had asked a colleague to bring it over. Savoring the rich, aromatic coffee, Xia Jie couldn’t help but ask, "I already made it clear I’m not buying anything. Aren’t you wasting coffee by giving it to me?"

Xiaoxin laughed at her question. "We treat our customers like family. Just because a family member is shopping, does that mean you shouldn’t treat them well?"

’The logic made sense, but could any company, any person, truly operate like this in reality? If all their employees were like this, Futong Commerce could never learn this. At least, not the current staff. They slacked off on even the most basic tasks. How could they possibly be expected to go above and beyond their sales duties and patiently treat customers like family, the way the staff here did?’

’It was easy to imagine what would happen if a customer tried on clothes at one of Futong Commerce’s NLB stores and left without buying anything. They would undoubtedly be gossiped about the second they were out the door. Forget free, freshly ground coffee—you’d be lucky to get a cup of plain water even if you asked for it.’

Xiaoxin walked her all the way to the entrance, treating her like family the entire time. Xia Jie even thought, ’My own siblings aren’t this nice to me.’

Just as she was about to leave, she heard someone call out, "Xiaoxin."

Xia Jie turned to look. Two fashionably dressed young women were there, one of whom was wearing an NLB outfit. ’A regular customer, it seems.’ But the store had just opened yesterday. How could it have regulars already? ’Buying clothes isn’t like grabbing fast food. Do people really come every day?’

She heard Xiaoxin greet the woman warmly as "Ms. Cheng." ’She actually remembers her customers, even with so many people coming through. She must have really done her homework.’

The woman, Ms. Cheng, said, "This is my best friend. She usually shops over at Wanlong Square. She was planning to check out the NLB store there today, so I dragged her here instead."

Xia Jie remained standing there, thinking, long after they had entered the store. ’The Xinyue Square store is so far from Wanlong Square, yet they’re already poaching their target customers with nothing but good service. That’s truly impressive.’

’If a store like this were under my management, forget a monthly sales target of 400,000. I’d have the confidence to shoot for 600,000, or even 800,000.’

The past two days were the grand opening, which, combined with the mall’s preliminary advertising, led to an initial sales explosion. Once things settled down, they probably couldn’t maintain 150,000 in daily sales. Still, Xia Jie estimated the store’s average monthly sales would likely exceed 800,000, maybe even more.

Before she came, she’d listened to President Shan and Manager Zhang boast about how great the platform at Futong Commerce was, and how these employees would flock to them if they just extended an olive branch. But now that she was here in person, she knew better. With a work environment this good, an extra 500 yuan wouldn’t be enough to poach anyone; even an extra 2,000 might not do the trick. ’Of course, that’s just my opinion,’ she thought. ’Maybe some people really would be swayed by the money.’

’But would their income even be low?’ Xia Jie did a quick calculation. Based on an average of 800,000 in monthly sales and what looked like ten sales associates, that was an average of 80,000 in sales per person. At a 5% commission rate, their bonus alone would be 4,000 yuan. Add in a base salary, say, 2,500 yuan, and their total income would completely crush what the associates at Futong Commerce made.

’An extra 500 yuan? What a joke.’ At that moment, Xia Jie lost all hope of poaching anyone. Still, she remembered her task for the next two days: find out the compensation package for Yanghe Commerce’s sales staff. They were all on the clock now, so it was obviously not a good time to ask. She decided to wait until the morning shift got off work and find an opportunity then.

’Then again, business is so good today. They’ll probably have the morning shift work overtime.’

Just as she’d expected. Wang Hua had arranged for Zhao Ling, a supervisor from Huasheng Commerce, to stay behind and chat with Xiaotang. He himself, however, headed back to the company. Standing around for half the day had made his back ache.

In the meantime, Xia Jie returned to the NLB store at Wanlong Square. The saying "comparisons are odious" had never felt truer. After seeing Yanghe Commerce’s store, looking at her own felt almost unbearable.

"Hey, Xia Jie."

She saw Zhu Jing from the neighboring Airex store. Though they weren’t on the same team at the company, they had forged a bond of true comradeship.

They had both been on the receiving end of Cai Miao’s abuse, constantly getting bullied. Then Yang Hui had arrived, and at his instruction, Zhu Jing had even helped Xia Jie fight back against Cai Miao a few times.

Heroes cherish heroes, and beauties, it seems, cherish beauties. "Zhu Jing," Xia Jie said, "making your rounds alone?"

Gossip was flying all over the company that Yang Hui often took Zhu Jing with him on his store tours. There were even rumors that he was already sleeping with her. Xia Jie hadn’t believed it at first, but after what happened yesterday afternoon, she did. ’Was there anything Yang Hui wouldn’t dare to do? He was completely shameless.’

Women are perceptive, and Zhu Jing, who was already exceptionally sharp, was even more so. She immediately understood that Xia Jie was alluding to the fact that Yang Hui wasn’t with her today.

A faint blush crept onto her cheeks as she quickly changed the subject. "So, how are you finding things since taking over the NLB stores?"
