Why is This Troublemaker So Damn Rich?

Chapter 179 - 172: Leave It to Me (Part 2)

At the mention of this, Xia Jie’s face clouded over. "It’s hard. Next to impossible, really. Especially after I went to the first floor of Xinyue Square today and saw Yanghe Commerce’s NLB Store. Now I’m even more lost."

Zhu Jing asked insightfully, "Are you saying that no matter how hard we try at Futong Commerce, our stores can never reach the same level as Yanghe Commerce’s?"

Looking at Zhu Jing, Xia Jie said, "You get me. I’ve always been proud of my store management skills, and I never thought I was worse than anyone else. But after seeing how Yanghe Commerce manages their stores today, I know I’ve already lost. I don’t know how they do it, so I’m going back this afternoon. I have to figure it out."

Zhu Jing didn’t fully understand it either. When she helped stock shelves the other day, she noticed that Yanghe Commerce’s employees were all incredibly passionate and self-motivated. That alone was something Futong Commerce couldn’t compete with. It made her look forward to the day Yang Hui would recruit her away from Futong Commerce.

She was really looking forward to managing a team like the one at Yanghe Commerce. She decided she would start scouting for promising staff members, including talented people who had already quit. When she eventually went to Yanghe Commerce, she’d need her own core team. According to the growth rate Yang Hui mentioned, she should be stockpiling talent right now.

"It’s not your fault. In retail, it all comes down to people, product, and place. The only part we can really influence is people management. But even then, every company’s situation is different. Futong Commerce’s compensation structure makes it hard to attract high-quality talent."

Xia Jie nodded seriously. "Yes, my initial assessment is that the pay and benefits for Yanghe Commerce’s NLB staff must be quite good. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have so many employees who look so good and carry themselves so well, not to mention how motivated everyone is. I’m going to wait for their morning shift to get off work and see if I can find out about their compensation. Based on what I learn, I’ll draw up a plan to poach them."

’Poach them?’ Zhu Jing laughed. She wondered what Yang Hui would do if he knew Xia Jie was trying to steal his employees. ’He’d probably have her head.’ It was obvious Xia Jie didn’t know Yanghe Commerce was Yang Hui’s company. Zhu Jing realized she was probably the only one at Futong Commerce who knew this secret, which meant Yang Hui trusted her the most. ’For some reason, she felt a small burst of happiness.’

She didn’t know about Yanghe Commerce’s employee compensation either. She had been too busy stocking shelves that day to ask. Besides, it would be rude to ask about someone’s salary the first time you meet them. If she really wanted to know, it would be better to ask Yang Hui.

"Hi, Zhu Jing."

Hearing that voice, she felt a wave of annoyance. It was the mall manager, Li Lei. She couldn’t believe she’d run into him again.

"Zhu Jing, is this lovely lady your colleague?" Li Lei asked, striking what he clearly thought was a cool pose with one hand in his pocket. To be fair, he had the looks to back it up; many of the sales associates at Wanlong Square had a crush on him.

"Yes. This is my colleague, Xia Jie, the supervisor for NLB."

"Xia Jie—a lovely name. Futong Commerce sure has all the beautiful women, haha."

Feeling a little uncomfortable, Xia Jie glanced at Zhu Jing. This mall manager was a bit too forward, and full of himself to boot.

"Xia Jie, Futong Commerce is a very close partner of ours. If you need anything at all in the future, you can come to me. I can handle pretty much anything that comes up in this mall, big or small."

Zhu Jing turned her head away, trying not to laugh. Li Lei was such a braggart, and he wasn’t even the least bit embarrassed about it.

Xia Jie didn’t like him at all. Seeing him act so high and mighty, ’it was like he was just short of puffing out his chest and declaring, "Got a problem? Just leave it to me!"’

She was suddenly reminded of a complaint from her staff during her store visit yesterday: "Ma’am, we’re under so much pressure right now, but the mall gave Airex one hundred ’100 off 1,000’ subsidy vouchers, and we got nothing. It’s so unfair!"

Xia Jie had already heard about this. President Shan had personally tried to negotiate a deal but failed and even got chewed out by Li Yang. The deal for Airex, however, had been secured by Yang Hui.

’Wow, Manager Yang is amazing,’ she thought. ’Truly amazing.’ The second part of that thought was an involuntary exclamation as she suddenly recalled certain scenes from Yuzu Xuan the day before.

Seeing Li Lei looking so full of himself, she deliberately said, "Manager Li, as it happens, there is actually something we need your help with right now."

He loved helping girls, especially pretty ones. Hearing her, he didn’t even think twice before slapping his chest and saying, "What is it? Just say the word. You can count on me."

"The NLB store is under a lot of pressure right now. Could you give us some of those sales subsidy vouchers, like you did for Airex, to help drive sales?"

The smile froze on his face. Li Lei coughed twice and said, "That’s a really tough one. Your President Shan came to talk about it and couldn’t get it done."

Xia Jie feigned ignorance. "Then why does Airex have them?"

Zhu Jing watched her deliberately putting Li Lei on the spot and pursed her lips to hide a smile. So, Xia Jie had a mischievous side to her.

Li Lei hesitated for a long moment before stammering, "That... That was negotiated by Manager Yang Hui from Airex himself."

"Ohhh—" Xia Jie deliberately drew out the sound.

"I don’t quite understand, Manager Li. You said we could come to you for anything and that you could basically handle it all. But this is something Manager Yang was able to resolve, yet you, a leader here at Wanlong Square, can’t. You must just be unwilling to help, right? Otherwise, how could you possibly be unable to solve it?"

Li Lei’s mouth fell open. He looked as if he’d just swallowed a fly. How was he supposed to explain this? He had done all the bragging himself, and Xia Jie’s question was a total slap in the face.

He’d puffed out his chest and sworn he could handle anything at the mall, but here was something an outsider could do that he couldn’t.
