"Ah—ladies, I just remembered, I have to organize a department meeting. Performance has been bad lately, so I need to chew them out and crank up the pressure. I’ll treat you to dinner next time we get the chance."
"Of course, Manager Li. The next time we meet, I hope you’ll have resolved the matter with the spending subsidy vouchers. After all, if our Manager Yang could handle it, I can’t imagine it would be difficult for you."
Li Lei forced a laugh and scurried away, looking utterly defeated.
"Xia Jie, I didn’t realize you could be so ruthless. You really laid into him. He’ll probably make a detour every time he sees you from now on."
She gave a cold laugh. She might not have known how to handle someone like Cai Miao, but she had a few tricks up her sleeve for dealing with men who tried to hit on her. If she didn’t, she’d be pestered to death.
"Come on, let’s get something to eat. It’s my treat. That fusion place Manager Yang took me to last time was pretty good, let’s go check it out."
Hearing this, Xia Jie couldn’t help but remark, "So the office rumors are true. He really does take you all over the place."
Zhu Jing turned to look at Xia Jie’s slightly jealous expression. "Well, there are also rumors that he took *you* out and, you know..."
Xia Jie’s face instantly turned red, and she quickly looked away. Her guilty expression made something click for the ever-perceptive Zhu Jing, who was suddenly reminded of that day on the massage chair, when his hand had roamed mischievously inside her own skirt.
’Hmph. Looks like he’s made a move on Xia Jie, too. I wonder how far they’ve gone... That boss of ours is a natural-born player. But he isn’t with me today, and he isn’t with Xia Jie... so where did he go off to chase skirts?’
「That day, Yang Hui had gone to Yanghe Commerce.」
The company’s recruitment had been exceptionally fast, and people for the core departments were already on board. This was hardly surprising. With salaries and benefits that far exceeded the industry standard, a flood of eager candidates was only natural. After several rounds of interviews, the heads of each team had been confirmed.
The next step was to continue expanding their staff according to the company’s development plan, but Yang Na had deliberately slowed this process. The company only had one store at the moment, with a second not opening until the end of the month. They simply didn’t need a large team for back-end and logistical support yet.
Yang Na was currently in charge of the company’s primary operations, while Yang Hui personally handled external channel expansion. For merchandising, she had managed to poach a buyer with five years of experience and had even assigned them two assistants. This team would be more than enough, even if the company grew to ten stores.
Yang Na was now working out of the general manager’s office. This was at Yang Hui’s request; he rarely used it himself. The company’s current office space was limited, so there was no need for him to take up a separate room. Once they were better established and space was no longer an issue, they could arrange something proper. For now, every penny had to be spent where it counted most.
Yang Hui sat on the sofa. Across from him, Yang Na settled into a chair, smoothing the hem of her skirt. Her dress, which ended well above her knees, rode up slightly with the movement, revealing a patch of pale, smooth skin on her thigh. It was a dazzling sight against the dark office furniture.
"Serene called first thing this morning asking for all the details about yesterday’s opening day sales," Yang Na began. "The results were beyond anyone’s expectations. According to her, it even caught the attention of the big boss of the NLB China Region. He apparently said that if all their clients could operate at this level, NLB China’s sales volume would at least double."
"They’re likely going to be paying very close attention to this store’s performance from now on. If we keep up this standard, senior executives from the brand company might come for an inspection. It’s also highly probable they’ll ask clients from other regions to come here to observe and learn from us."
His eyes remained fixed on her fair, smooth thighs. He used to steal glances, but he’d grown bolder recently, his stare becoming almost shameless. Yang Na shot him a look. ’We’re talking business. Can’t you control yourself for a minute?’
He cleared his throat and took the Longjing tea Yang Na offered him. "The people at NLB Brand Company must not get out much. Why are they making such a fuss over this? Wait until we’ve opened a few more stores, all at this same standard. They want to come learn from us? Will they even be able to keep up? Maybe I should open a training program for them."
"Tell Serene they’re welcome to observe, but we won’t be hosting them. The company is brand new and we’re already short-staffed. Who has time to wait on them?"
Yang Na giggled. That was so like Yang Hui; she knew he wouldn’t go for it. He was completely different from other bosses. Any other distributor who received this kind of recognition from brand headquarters—and was asked to serve as a model for other regional distributors to learn from—would have gone all out to celebrate. It was an enormous boost to one’s prestige, not to mention a golden opportunity to network with senior management and negotiate more favorable business policies down the line.
Once a region was designated as a benchmark by brand headquarters, the benefits were immense, and it would receive all kinds of support.
She was absolutely right. If something like this had happened to Li Yang, he’d have bragged about it for a solid year—to his company, to his clients, and to anyone in the industry who would listen. It was, after all, the highest possible endorsement of one’s management and business abilities. What did a distributor rely on to get ahead, if not their strong operational management and channel expansion capabilities?
By opening more stores and generating more sales, you help the brand expand its market share and increase its profits. In return, the brand gives you its full support.
"Isn’t that a bit like burning your bridges?" she teased. "The brand company gave you an incredible amount of support, and now that they’re here to offer recognition and praise, you’re giving them the cold shoulder."
When Serene had visited, she and Yang Na had discussed their business terms. Serene hadn’t hidden the terms offered to Futong Commerce, which was how Yang Na came to understand just how absurdly generous NLB Brand Company’s support for Yang Hui really was. The competition with Futong Commerce had never been on a level playing field to begin with.
