Why is This Troublemaker So Damn Rich?

Chapter 196 - 178: I’m Not Your Dad

They wanted the experience of their veteran employees, but they despised their lack of ambition. They wanted to hire good people, but they were unwilling to pay for them.

He shook his head. ’I’m almost jealous of people like Li Yang who’ve been in business for decades. The market was so good back in the day; as long as you were daring, you made a profit. Now that the retail environment has gotten rough these past two years, their management problems are slowly being exposed. But they won’t face any of it, still thinking it’s all because the people under them aren’t trying hard enough.’

’He’d never admit he’s wrong, because he’s been doing things this way for decades. If he were wrong, how could the company have grown to this size?’

’But he never stops to think that times are changing, the market is changing, yet his mindset stays the same. The sales staff today aren’t like they were over ten years ago. Back then, you could get by on 3,000 yuan a month. Now, it’s still 3,000 yuan, and you can barely afford to eat. Who’s going to work for you for that?’

’And you still demand high standards from them? What a joke. The warehouse staff earn more than they do. You should be grateful if they just manage to keep an eye on the merchandise and not lose anything.’

These thoughts flashed through his mind in an instant. Hearing that Xia Jie had cried out of anger, he sent her a message: "Come with me on my store rounds in a bit. Tell me what you’re upset about, and I’ll get even for you."

He waited for a while, but Xia Jie didn’t reply. He figured she hadn’t seen the message. Just as he was about to get up and look for her, his phone rang.

"Manager Yang, President Li wants to see you."

Cai Miao no longer dared to call him Xiaoyang. After all, Yang Hui taunted her daily by calling her "rookie" and "Old Cai," and there was nothing she could do about it.

"What for?"

’How should I know?’ Cai Miao wanted to say, but she held her tongue. "I’m not sure."

"As an assistant, you can’t even figure that out? All you do is pass messages back and forth like a parrot."

SLAM. He hung up the phone. Cai Miao was stunned for a long moment. ’I can get chewed out for *that*? He called me a parrot?’ She was so furious she felt like her lungs would explode. But she had no idea how to get back at him, so all she could do was swear a vicious oath in her heart: ’Yang Hui, just you wait. The first chance I get, I’m going to crush you and get you kicked out of this company.’

When Yang Hui walked in, he saw Dan Biao and Zhang Li were there as well. ’This must be related to Xia Jie running out in tears,’ he thought. ’Perfect, now I can get to the bottom of it.’

"A Hui, come in, come in. There’s something I’d like to discuss with you."

Dan Biao and Zhang Li watched Yang Hui with envy. President Li’s attitude toward him was completely different from how he treated them. He had just been chewing them out, but the moment he saw Yang Hui, he broke into a grin like he’d just won the lottery.

"Here’s the situation. The NLB brand is of major strategic importance to the company. We need to transfer our very best supervisor to take charge of it. Zhang Li says that Zhu Jing from your team is the most suitable person for the job. So I wanted to discuss it with you. We’re hoping you’ll show some team spirit and help Zhang Li out here."

’Transfer Zhu Jing to run NLB? But didn’t Xia Jie just start there? Is that why she ran out crying—because they’re taking it away from her? What’s the big deal? I’ll go out and give her a good caress later. Whoops, I mean, console her.

As for transferring Zhu Jing, no way in hell. If I didn’t need her here to coordinate my own work, I’d have sent her over to Yanghe Commerce ages ago. What a waste of her time, being here.’}

"President Li, my Airex team has only just stabilized. If you transfer my best supervisor now, it will create huge problems for me. Besides, I can’t accept it. It’ll affect my morale."

’Fucking "affect my morale,"’ Dan Biao thought, struggling not to laugh. He was the only one who knew how many times Yang Hui had used that line to threaten President Li. And just as expected, President Li’s face went livid, and it was obvious he was barely holding back his anger.

Afraid the fire wasn’t burning hot enough, Zhang Li fanned the flames from the sidelines. "Zhu Jing is an employee of this company. Her deployment is a company decision. Besides, the NLB situation is so difficult right now, my team really does need the support."

He shouldn’t have said anything. The moment the words left his mouth, Yang Hui’s temper flared. He thought of Xia Jie running out in tears and was sure this bastard Zhang Li had something to do with it. In a cold voice, he said, "Looking after you is your dad’s job. I’m not your dad."

Even Dan Biao was stunned. ’You can’t say that to a colleague, can you?’ he thought. ’Yang Hui’s taking it a little too far.’

Zhang Li never expected Yang Hui would dare to say such a thing in front of President Li. ’You motherfucker, you wanna be my dad?’ he fumed internally. Even President Li was stunned, momentarily forgetting his own anger. ’And you want to be my brother-in-law?’

"Yang Hui, who did you just say you’re a father to?" Zhang Li demanded loudly once he recovered, pointing at him.

Yang Hui shot him a disdainful look and said coldly, "You heard me. I said I’m *not* your dad. Was I wrong?"

Dan Biao almost choked with laughter. Zhang Li’s face was beet-red and the veins on his neck were bulging with fury. ’If he says Yang Hui is wrong,’ Dan Biao thought, ’isn’t that the same as admitting Yang Hui *is* his dad?’

He turned to President Li. "Boss, Yang Hui just insulted a colleague and is refusing to follow a company directive. This kind of behavior must be handled severely."

President Li had been looking for a place to vent his anger. The moment Zhang Li spoke, he slammed his hand on the table—BAM!—and shot to his feet. "Will you cut the crap! How I handle this is my business! You should worry about your own damn mess! Look what you’ve done to NLB! How dare you criticize anyone else? We’re sacrificing other people to save your ass right now. Can’t you have a shred of decency?"

Dan Biao remained silent. ’This Zhang Li really doesn’t get President Li at all,’ he thought. ’He hates Yang Hui’s guts, but he doesn’t dare lose his temper at him. Why would you open your mouth at a time like this? It’s like walking right into the line of fire.’

Zhang Li’s face was a mask of utter frustration. He was standing right in front of President Li, getting sprayed with spittle as the man yelled, but he didn’t dare wipe it off. He just lowered his head and muttered under his breath, "Fucking hell... only knows how to bully his own family."

This thought wasn’t entirely objective. With the exception of Yang Hui, President Li usually did help him out. But in this situation, he had no other choice; he had to take it out on the easiest target.
