Why is This Troublemaker So Damn Rich?

Chapter 197 - 178: I’m Not Your Dad (Part 2)

After tearing into Zhang Li, Li Yang turned to Yang Hui. Although he couldn’t instantly trade his scowl for a smile, he managed to restrain his anger and said, "A Hui, Zhang Li was right about one thing. NLB is extremely important to the company, and we need a capable person in charge of it right now, otherwise the company will suffer a huge loss. Therefore, on this issue, I hope you can understand and accept the company’s decision. Of course, I’m also aware of your difficulties. Airex has just stabilized, and you need a strong supervisor to help you. How about this? You can pick anyone you want from the other teams. If one isn’t enough, feel free to pick two."

Without a moment’s hesitation, Yang Hui flatly refused. "First, Xia Jie is an excellent supervisor, every bit as capable as Zhu Jing. Why are you replacing her after just one day? I don’t get it. Second, I am not letting Zhu Jing go."

He didn’t know yet that HR was about to push Xia Jie to resign. If he had, his attitude would likely have been even worse.

The office fell deathly silent once more, the only sound Li Yang’s ragged gasps. His face was starting to turn purple. But Yang Hui paid it no mind and continued, "If you all think Xia Jie can’t handle it, then I suggest you have Zhang Li take over himself. He’s more capable than any supervisor, isn’t he? He should have some perspective, shouldn’t he? And as a company employee, he’s obligated to accept a reassignment, isn’t he? Isn’t that the perfect solution?"

"Anyway, President Li, I have a meeting at the mall to discuss an event and I’m running late. I’ll be taking off now."

Li Yang slumped back into his chair, so furious he was speechless, though he was desperately trying to hold it in. Yang Hui’s final comment about going to the mall for a meeting forced him to swallow the rage that was about to explode.

’I’ll endure it. I have to. He’s going to a meeting to make money for *me*. Besides, the NLB expansion requires President Tian’s full support, and Yang Hui is the crucial link. I have to put up with him for now. Once the NLB partnership with Xinyue Square is a done deal, *then* I’ll deal with him.’

Watching Yang Hui stride off, Dan Biao was filled with admiration.

’A prick is a prick for a reason. He’s the only one who dares to go head-to-head with the boss. The only one who dares to just up and leave like that. God, I’m so damn envious. When will I ever be able to pull that off? And the best part is, the boss doesn’t dare do a thing to him. So satisfying to watch.’

This was a real eye-opener for Zhang Li. He finally understood why Li Yang always chewed him out whenever he clashed with Yang Hui. Turns out, Yang Hui was a real piece of work who didn’t give a damn about Li Yang. And the crucial part was, Li Yang didn’t dare do a single thing to him.

"Xiaodan, Zhang Li, I think Yang Hui has a point. A brand as important as NLB shouldn’t be managed by a supervisor. Zhang Li, you’ll take charge of it personally. Xiaodan, you will provide full support and assistance. You both agreed to the performance-bet plan I proposed, so you two will go to the stores to announce it and see to its implementation."

’Holy shit, you can’t be serious!’

Dan Biao and Zhang Li were horrified. This was especially true for Zhang Li. If he was the one going to the stores to make this announcement, wouldn’t it be his fault if all the employees quit? Before, he had a supervisor to act as a scapegoat; now he had no one to hide behind.

Worse, Li Yang had latched onto the fact that both he and Dan Biao had just endorsed the plan, so they couldn’t deny it now. They had truly dug their own graves.

Li Yang’s words were a command, leaving no room for negotiation. Besides, he was stewing in anger and needed some quiet time to process it all. He ordered them to leave and carry out the plan immediately. Li Yang then had HR draw up the official performance-bet plan for Zhang Li to take to the stores, announce, and have the employees sign.

As Yang Hui left Li Yang’s office, he glanced at his phone. A message from Xia Jie had come in: "I’m not coming out. I’m resigning."

’Resigning?’ Yang Hui recalled how this girl had endured so much abuse from Cai Miao in the past. She had knowingly jumped into the deathtrap that was the NLB brand, all for the sake of her paycheck. But today, after a single trip to Li Yang’s office, she was quitting. ’Just how badly must they have treated her?’

The thought made him wonder if he’d been too polite to Li Yang and Zhang Li earlier.

He walked straight over to Zhang Li’s team’s section of the office. He saw Xia Jie slumped over her desk, her slender shoulders trembling. She was clearly still upset.

"Xia Jie, come with me."

Hearing that gentle yet firm tone, that familiar and reassuring voice, Xia Jie lifted her head. A second later, realizing she must look a mess after crying for so long, she buried her face again. "Just give me a minute. I’ll come find you."

He saw right through her. ’Are all women so concerned with their appearance?’ "Alright," he said aloud. "I’ll wait for you in the car. We’re going out to eat. It’s going to be okay. I’ve got your back, so there’s nothing to be afraid of."

As soon as he said it, he realized it could be taken the wrong way. He’d been influenced by what Han Ya had said about Zhu Jing. Sure enough, Xia Jie, still slumped over her desk, went completely still. His words had clearly startled her.

"I’ll head down first." He gave her shoulder a light pat and walked away.

He ran right into Zhang Li on his way back. Yang Hui sneered. "What’s this? Catch my scent and come running back because you knew I was in your territory?"

Zhang Li had been completely screwed over by him. His suggestion that Zhang Li take direct responsibility for the NLB brand had actually been adopted by Li Yang. His head was buzzing, and he had no idea what to do. He heard Yang Hui’s jab but it didn’t register. He stumbled back to his desk and sat down. A moment later, Yang Hui’s words finally sank in, and he slammed his fist on the table. "Fuck! He called me a dog."

Yang Hui’s fingertips tapped lightly on the leather steering wheel of his Mercedes E-Class. The scent of cedar from the car’s air freshener mingled with the smell of the upholstery. As the passenger door opened, the sweet scent of peach lipstick and perfume wafted in from Xia Jie, feeling like an exquisite facade she was struggling to maintain.
