Li Yang was already in a bad mood when he heard the man exclaim, "President Li, this is bad!"
He instantly flared up. "How fucking old are you? Why don’t you have any composure? After all these years I’ve spent teaching you, have you learned nothing? Even if the sky falls, I remain unshaken."
’I don’t want to rush either,’ Dan Biao fumed inwardly, ’but that guy Yang Hui is pushing me. What if he’s off for the night? Who’s going to be responsible for the losses if we can’t get the digital copy of the official letter to Xinyue Square? Who could possibly afford to?’
"President Li, if we don’t handle the promotional fee support from Xinyue Group now, it’ll be too late."
"Fuck, what’s going on? If you have something to say, just say it! Why are you beating around the bush? Spit it out, now!"
Holding the phone slightly away from his ear, Dan Biao listened to the voice booming from the other end. It was deafening. ’So this is what he calls "Even if the sky falls, I remain unshaken"? He’s even more impatient than I am.’
"President Li, the official letter for the shopping center hasn’t been stamped yet."
"What’s going on? Didn’t I tell you this morning that it could be stamped? Why hasn’t it been handled yet?"
"Yang Hui called and said it’s with Cai Miao. She hasn’t brought it to you for your signature yet."
"Damn it, you’re right. Now that you mention it, I don’t remember signing that approval request today. Shit, is Cai Miao’s brain full of water? I’ll call her."
"President Li, we absolutely have to get the digital copy to Xinyue Square tonight, or it’ll definitely be too late for this month. Manager Cheng Jun from Xinyue Group is still working overtime waiting for us, but I don’t know how long she’ll wait."
"I know!"
From the low growl of Li Yang’s voice, Dan Biao could feel his fury. He wondered what kind of spectacular expression was on his face right now and how badly Cai Miao was about to be chewed out. A strange sense of satisfaction washed over him. ’I think I’m becoming more and more of a sadist,’ he thought.
Cai Miao had gone home early today. Her parents-in-law were visiting, and her husband had told her that afternoon to come home early. His parents rarely visited, and the whole family was going to have dinner together.
She was in the kitchen cooking when her phone suddenly started ringing.
She glanced at the caller ID, quickly wiped her hands, and shut the kitchen door. After a nervous glance outside, she guiltily answered the call.
"Boss!"
"Cai Miao, have you lost your fucking mind?"
Perhaps from all the ass-kissing she did, she was terrified of Li Yang. After being yelled at, she immediately started to stutter, "B-Boss, what’s wrong?"
"Didn’t Yang Hui’s team submit an approval request for my signature today? Why didn’t you bring it to me?"
Cai Miao’s heart skipped a beat. Her first thought was that someone had ratted her out. But then she thought, ’It’s just an expense report, isn’t it? What’s the big deal?’
Huh? No, wait. The boss said it was an approval request. What approval request?
"Speak up! Are you deaf?"
At that moment, Cai Miao suddenly remembered what Zhu Jing had said when she handed over the expense reports: "Here are our team’s expense reports and the documents that need a signature."
’Could the boss be referring to an approval request that was in there needing his signature?’ She hadn’t paid attention at the time, assuming they were all expense reports.
"Boss, I’ll bring it to you first thing in the morning when I get to the office."
"Cut the crap. Get to the office within the hour, draft an official letter based on the approval request, get finance to stamp it with the company seal, and then send the digital version to Yang Hui. If you don’t, I’ll fucking kill you for costing me so much."
BEEP—
The long tone from the phone indicated the other end had hung up.
She felt incredibly wronged. ’What’s with the boss?’ she thought. ’I kiss up to him so much, and yet he’s yelling at me over Yang Hui and some approval request.’
Besides, her parents-in-law were over tonight. How could she possibly leave?
But after weighing the pros and cons, she knew she had to go. She knew Li Yang too well. Something was off about his mood today, and if she didn’t do as he said, she would definitely be toast.
When she went into the living room and told her husband she had to go to the office, his expression instantly turned cold.
"What’s so important that you have to go to the office this late? Will the company go bankrupt without you? Aren’t you just a junior assistant?"
The three rapid-fire questions left her speechless.
"My parents haven’t visited in months, and you’re planning to leave before you’ve even finished cooking dinner. What is that supposed to mean?"
"It really is an emergency. I’ll come right back after I take care of it at the office."
Her husband sneered, "If you go, don’t bother coming back."
With that, he turned and walked away. Cai Miao knew that if she left, things at home would be a disaster, but if she didn’t go to the office, Li Yang really could destroy her. She might even lose her job.
She couldn’t give up the high salary Li Yang paid her, and she was even more reluctant to part with the feeling of being second to one and above all others at Futong Commerce.
Li Yang had given her one hour to get it done. A taxi from her home to the office would take twenty minutes. Not daring to delay for a single moment, she grabbed her bag and headed out the door.
Back at the office, she sifted through a stack of documents and found the ones Zhu Jing had brought that morning. She flipped to the end and found the approval request for the Xinyue Group promotional fee support.
This was the approval request Yang Hui’s team had submitted for company authorization. Once approved, an official letter had to be drafted for the shopping center.
Normally, Yang Hui’s team would have drafted this letter, and she would have reviewed and approved it. This was the exact kind of business correspondence she had nitpicked over, forcing Xia Jie to revise it 28 times on a previous occasion.
If Yang Hui’s team had drafted it, she would have likely made things difficult for them again. But now, Li Yang was telling her to draft it herself.
"Oh no, this is bad!"
The official letter needed the company seal, and the seal was with Sister Li in finance.
She hurriedly called Sister Li. Sister Li’s full name was Li Ting, and she was Li Yang’s own niece. That was why she was in charge of Futong Commerce’s finances; he only trusted his own family with the company’s purse strings.
Li Ting was at home supervising her child’s homework. Nowadays, when a kid went to school, it was like the parents were their personal tutors. The daily homework tortured her to the brink of death.
Fortunately, unlike others, she didn’t have to work overtime, so she could find time every day to come back and watch over her kid’s homework. Even so, it took until 10:00 PM every day to finish, after which she had to check in on the homework group chat.
Parents these days were truly exhausted, more tired than they were from their jobs. Glancing at her son, who was still writing, Li Ting thought, ’Thank god I don’t have to work overtime!’
Her phone suddenly rang. Seeing the caller ID was Cai Miao, she rejected the call immediately.
She was in the middle of helping her son with his homework; she was afraid a phone call would break her concentration. But Cai Miao was persistent today, and the phone kept ringing.
Li Ting got angry. ’Why is she so clueless?’ To avoid disturbing her child’s homework, she walked out onto the balcony and pressed the answer key.
"Sister Li, there’s an emergency here. I need you to come to the office."
"Are you crazy? Do you know what time it is? And you want me to go to the office? Not happening!"
She hung up the phone immediately. Other people at the company might be afraid of Cai Miao, but Li Ting couldn’t care less about her. When it came to their relationship with the boss, Cai Miao was no match for her.
The phone rang again. Li Ting answered and said fiercely, "Cai Miao, what is your problem?"
Cai Miao said frantically, "Sister Li, I’m so sorry, but the boss just called me. He said there’s an official letter here that absolutely has to be stamped today, or we’ll face a huge loss!"
