Li Ting was extremely annoyed, but she went to the office anyway.
She could ignore other people’s problems, but this involved Li Yang. And since it also concerned a massive financial interest for the company, she understood what was at stake.
She just took all her frustration out on Cai Miao.
"Assistant Cai, what on earth were you doing all day? You have to prioritize, no matter how busy you are. Who doesn’t have a personal life? Yet here we are, running back to the office in the middle of the night."
Cai Miao could only force a smile, unable to say a single word in her defense. It was, after all, her fault.
If she hadn’t intentionally held up the sign-off for Yang Hui’s team, the issue would have been discovered much sooner.
RING RING RING~
The phone rang. Cai Miao glanced at it, said, "It’s the boss," and pressed the answer button.
"Cai Miao, is it done yet?"
Li Ting, who was in the middle of stamping the document, could hear Li Yang’s roar from a mile away.
"Almost done, boss! Almost done!"
"Hurry up! You’re taking forever with one document. How come you’re so fast when it’s time to take off your pants?"
Cai Miao’s expression turned grim. Li Yang’s voice was so loud, Li Ting had probably heard everything. And sure enough, Li Ting was staring at her with a strange look in her eyes.
"Get a move on! Once it’s ready, you need to send it to Yang Hui. Let me know when it’s all done."
She took the newly stamped business letter from Li Ting. "Thank you, Sister Li."
Li Ting snorted. "If something like this ever happens again, I won’t come in. Not even if the sky is falling."
"Okay. Of course."
Cai Miao felt utterly humiliated. Normally, she and Sister Li kept to their own lanes at the office, but now, because of this, she’d managed to offend her.
In his room at the Xinyue Hotel, Yang Hui finished his call with Dan Biao, took a quick shower, and returned to the bedroom.
Liu Shasha was already awake. She sat up as she saw Yang Hui walk in wearing a bathrobe. The bedroom was dark, save for the moonlight spilling across the windowsill.
The moment the blanket slipped from her shoulders, moonlight draped her body like a silver veil. As she stepped barefoot onto the carpet, her waist curved into a breathtaking arc, and the full contour of her hips rose like a classical Greek statue just granted the gift of breath.
His gaze lingered on her chest—the pale orbs trembled slightly as she bent to pick up her clothes, their rosy peaks startlingly vivid in the cold light.
"I’m going to take a shower too!"
"Want some help?"
"Heh heh... Come and get me, Yang Dingtian."
Just as Yang Hui was about to follow her, Dan Biao’s call came through. He waved for her to go ahead on her own and answered his phone.
"Yang Hui, I reported this to the boss. He’s going to have Cai Miao get the business letter stamped tonight and send you the digital copy."
"That’s it?"
Dan Biao paused for a beat. "Yeah. You were giving up your own time late at night to deal with this, so of course I’m treating it as a priority. Just wanted to let you know."
"Got it, President Shan. If that’s all, I’m hanging up."
’No wonder he’s always getting yelled at. What terrible timing. He’s ruining my fun.’
’Cai Miao is sending it to me? How is she supposed to do that? I don’t have her on WeChat. Is she going to email it? If so, I won’t acknowledge it.’
Wisps of steam escaped from the crack under the bathroom door, and rivulets of condensation snaked down the frosted glass. The tune she was humming abruptly stopped, leaving only the soft patter of the showerhead spraying against skin.
Yang Hui leaned against the bathroom doorframe, tapping the glass with a fingertip. "Water hot enough for you?"
"Don’t come in!" Her shriek was punctuated by the sharp crack of a toppling porcelain bottle. The metal rings of the shower curtain screeched as she yanked it shut in a panic.
’This woman was such an actress, making it all seem so real. As if she wasn’t the one who took the initiative and climbed on top of me just a moment ago.’
’She really knew how to play a man and get him all wound up.’
He chuckled. "Alright, I won’t come in, then!"
He turned and started to walk away. He hadn’t taken two steps before he heard Liu Shasha call out from behind him, "Come here! Come on!"
The bathroom door opened. The wet tips of her hair clung to her pale shoulders, and the rising steam swirled around her body in a hazy halo.
Yang Hui’s gaze darkened instantly. She peeked out, revealing only half of her flushed face. Her eyelashes were beaded with moisture, and the steam had colored her lips a tempting scarlet. The towel she held loosely over her chest offered tantalizing glimpses, and a single drop of water traced a path down her collarbone into the shadows below.
"I’m cold..." she murmured, yet her fingertips pushed the door open even wider. The edge of her towel slipped with the motion, revealing a stray droplet of water on her rounded shoulder.
’FUCK!’ he cursed internally. This woman was way too good at teasing.
He spun around, tore off his own robe, and flung it aside before stalking into the bathroom.
The steam in the bathroom had not yet dissipated, and the thick fog condensed into winding streams on the mirror. The moment he reached out and untied her robe, the silk slipped from her shoulders like a receding tide, pooling like soft snow on the tiled floor.
Damp strands of hair clung to the nape of her neck as they embraced. The shower was still running, its spray rolling down her spine and shattering like crystalline stars in the gaps between his fingers as he gripped her wrist.
He pressed one hand against the tiled wall, trapping her between the billowing steam and the spray of the shower. Her arched back met his chest, and the water between their bodies spread, mapping their skin with warmth.
He nipped at an undried droplet on her shoulder, his fingers tracing the curve of her waist. Her bathrobe tie had long since fallen, now swirling in the vortex of the floor drain.
RING RING RING
Yang Hui’s phone started ringing again from outside the bathroom. Liu Shasha turned her head. "Aren’t you going to get that?"
"Why would I answer the phone at a time like this?"
He gripped her slender waist with both hands, pushing her torso down until she was bent over, her legs spread and standing straight.
An hour later, Yang Hui helped a weak-kneed Liu Shasha out of the bathroom. He looked at the red handprints marking her pale buttocks. "Does it hurt?"
Liu Shasha, completely drained of energy, collapsed onto the living room sofa. "You spanked me so hard," she said. "And now you ask if it hurts?"
He roared with laughter. "Even if it hurt then, you were enjoying it, so there was no need to ask. If it hurts now, it’s just pain, with none of the pleasure."
"Who says? The pleasure is still lingering."
Yang Hui sat down beside her and patted her pale, smooth thigh, motioning for her to scoot over.
"Oh, right. Your phone was ringing off the hook earlier. Aren’t you going to check it?"
At the mention of it, Yang Hui got annoyed. The calls had been from Cai Miao. That fucking idiot had called him more than a dozen times in the last hour, messing with his performance.
He had no idea that Cai Miao was also about to explode with rage. After all the trouble of going back to the office to get the business letter ready, she realized she didn’t have Yang Hui’s WeChat. How was she supposed to send him the signed electronic file?
She had sent him an email, but she couldn’t rest easy without calling to confirm. If he claimed tomorrow that he never saw the email and caused a delay, she would be completely screwed.
When she got home from the office, she found her husband and parents-in-law weren’t there. Half-cooked dishes were sitting untouched in the kitchen; she guessed they must have gone out to eat.
She sent him a text message, saved the signed document as a PDF, sent that to him as well, and told him to reply once he received it.
