Wilderness: I Tame Beasts to Survive

Chapter 361 - 256: Homeland Relocation

Chapter 361: Chapter 256: Homeland Relocation

Now that Dean Wu mentioned it, Han Ning remembered that it had indeed been some time since any new humans had arrived here.

Previously, it would be anywhere from a week to half a month. The weather would change, and then a random number of humans would suddenly appear.

Now, nearly a month had passed with no sign of anything.

"It’s not a major problem. I’ll have the Insect-men from the Red Centipede Tribe dispatch a small team to be stationed here. If any new humans arrive, they’ll rescue them immediately and notify us."

They couldn’t set up electronic surveillance equipment, but they weren’t short on manual labor now. There were plenty of Red Centipede Tribe Insect Servants to command.

"I suppose that’s our only option... We should save as many as we can before we evacuate. After we leave, we won’t be able to help them anymore."

Dean Wu shook his head.

Even now, no one knew how humans arrived in this place.

Having read some of Alatak’s records, Han Ning suspected it might be due to a spatial storm.

The gray fog shrouding the Insect Continent was both a cage, preventing the creatures within from escaping, and a protective measure for the continent itself.

Even so, it could be causing the space here to be unstable. Under some unknown effect, humans from Blue Star were being brought here.

This was Han Ning’s conjecture, though not necessarily a correct one.

The next morning, the sky was overcast and a light rain was falling.

In an open field northeast of the dormitory area, within the academy grounds, Flying Flame Mosquitoes, each marked with a different painted symbol, rested in orderly rows at their designated docking points. They blended in so well with the dark ground that they almost formed a single, continuous line.

The Flying Flame Mosquitoes were large transport insects bred by the Red Centipede Tribe specifically for moving supplies.

Each Awakened Level Flying Flame Mosquito had a body length of over seven meters, making it similar in size to a small transport truck—except it could fly.

They could carry over a ton of cargo, and their consumption rate was just a few Awakened Level Fire Type Spirit Crystal Fragments per hundred kilometers.

Instruments, wrapped tightly in cardboard boxes or cloth, were loaded onto the backs of the Flying Flame Mosquitoes and securely fastened.

Hundreds of humans, assisted by their insect partners, formed a long black line snaking back and forth between the dormitory and the open field.

To move so much cargo, Dean Wu hadn’t slept at all. He had spent the previous night mobilizing a large number of the transport mosquitoes, and with the help of the Red Centipede Tribe, had finally managed to gather enough Flying Flame Mosquitoes to carry all the cargo and personnel in a single night.

"Flying Flame Mosquito number eleven is at full capacity. Proceed to the designated flight point and prepare for departure. Have an empty one move in to take its place."

As the command echoed over the broadcast, one of the Flying Flame Mosquitoes, now laden with all sorts of unknown cargo, was directed away. The academy’s Insect Master standing beside it played their Insect Flute, remotely piloting the first batch of mosquitoes away from the loading zone.

"Make way, everyone, make way! Let the older teachers and sick students board the Flying Soul Beasts first! No pushing!"

"Hey, hey, hey! You, the Cuiwei Tree Demon! Stop running all over the place!"

"Oh my god! Someone, quick! Stop that Purple Star Snake! I think it’s getting upset!"

Meanwhile, the other side of the field was crowded with all the young Soul Beasts the academy had recently acquired and raised.

The academy’s Beast Masters in charge of moving the young Soul Beasts were sweating bullets as they directed the creatures to line up and board a massive hanging basket.

The entire basket was woven from High-Level vines produced by Yin Yi. It was nearly five stories tall, shaped like a giant hamper with a flat, soft clearing at the bottom.

Eight attachment points were specifically left at the top, allowing the basket to be tied to transport-type Soul Beasts so they could carry the basket and its occupants through the air.

Purple Star Snakes, Cyan Sky Wolves, Blue-striped Guardians, Rock Dogs, Earth Moss Turtles... Soul Beasts of all different Attributes and temperaments obediently formed a line. Under the direction of the humans, they walked one by one up the vine staircase and into the basket.

However... while most of the young Soul Beasts were obedient, there were always a few troublemakers who liked to stir things up.

"AWOO~"

And just like that, a Cyan Sky Wolf cub spotted a few cute Rock Dogs queuing ahead. Unable to contain its excitement, it tried to bolt from the line to go chat with its distant relatives.

"Ling!!"

Just as the line of Cyan Sky Wolves was thrown into chaos, a powerful-looking Tree Demon suddenly swooped down from the sky. A vine whipped out and smacked the wolf cub hard on the head, instantly knocking it unconscious. The Tree Demon then hoisted it up and tossed it into the basket.

"Trying to cause trouble? Did you think the Soul Beast enforcement squad doesn’t exist?"

Watching the scene unfold from a watchtower, Xu Jingjing let out a chuckle.

After her comment, she turned to the tall, thin man beside her and said with a laugh, "Teacher Zhou, Soul Beasts really don’t pull their punches with each other, do they? We humans have to worry about the cubs’ feelings and don’t dare get rough with them, but my Tree Demon just went and knocked that Cyan Sky Wolf out with a single slap..."

The Cyan Sky Wolf was a relatively rare beast-type Soul Beast. It had been a gift to the academy from the Insect Masters of the Red Centipede Tribe, who had supposedly sent them over because they weren’t skilled at raising beast-type Soul Beasts.

"When it comes to Soul Beasts of different Races and Attributes that have no prior relationship, their attitude toward each other is pretty much the same as our attitude toward other species. It all depends on their individual mood."

Teacher Zhou scanned the mostly orderly "boarding" area below and asked casually,

"Jingjing, about how much longer will it take on your end to get all the young ones transferred?"
