World Evolution Apocalypse: I Possess The Extraction Ability
Chapter 195: Chinese ApocalypseWith the sudden involvement of the ten survivors, Leon had to postpone further scouting of Marine Park. Besides, Agnus’s group would obviously know a lot more as they had been there since the apocalypse started.
As the sun started to disappear into the horizon, the Hilux vehicle pulled into the Floyd camp with the Marine Park survivors sitting in the back of the vehicle.
Leon rode straight to the Inner Ring, then signalled for one of the evolvers on duty to come over. Upon recognizing him, the young woman straightened.
"Good evening, Leader!"
Leon’s lips twitched, but he didn’t complain or rebuke her for her loudness. Instead, he went straight to the point.
"Prepare a residential area for these guys in the Inner Ring. Also, have them fill in the questionnaire papers as ordered by protocol."
The young woman turned to the Marine Park survivors, then nodded to Leon.
"Understood, sir!"
Agnus turned to his people, smiling. "You guys should go on ahead. I’ll come back after talking with Leon."
They all nodded, then obediently followed the young female evolver.
Agnus finally turned back to Leon, a curious look in his now-purple eyes.
"You really have such a large base. Man, you must be enjoying yourself."
Leon gave him a side glance, and shook his head.
"Whatever you think. Let’s head in. I have some questions for you."
Soon, the vehicle drove into the Core Ring and stopped right in front of the main villa.
Nora stepped out first, followed by Cassie and Fel. Then, Leon and Agnus stepped out too. Under Leon’s lead, they all walked inside the villa, then sat in the living room.
Cassie and Fel wisely excused themselves, taking Nora with them. Leon asked for the maids to serve Agnus tea.
While that was being prepared, the two young men started their serious conversation.
"Your questions? Ask away. Lord Ymir already told me to answer to the best of my abilities," Agnus smiled, resting his elbows on his thighs as he leaned forward.
"First. Is he listening to us speak right now? I want to know if I can ask him some things directly through you," Leon said calmly.
Sighing, Agnus shook his head. "Unfortunately, no. Speaking with him puts a huge mental strain on me, and he usually only appears to me in my dreams."
Realization dawned on Leon, and he nodded.
"In that case, my questions will be for you. What is the state of Marine Park, and are there any mutated beasts or zombies worth remembering?"
Agnus’s expression hardened. "There are no zombies at all, because of those two creatures haunting the neighborhood."
"Two creatures?" Leon’s interest grew. "Go on."
Agnus nodded and explained, "There are two absurdly strong creatures in Marine Park. One is a Tier Two crocodile, and the other is a Tier Two plant that I’ve never seen. While the crocodile is wild and very dangerous, it’s the plant that is the deadliest."
Leon remained silent, letting him choose his words as he continued explaining.
"That thing... I only know it’s the source of all the vines you see in Marine Park. Every single one of them. About two weeks ago, the two creatures fought, and although none of them won, they managed to restrain each other."
Leon’s eyes narrowed. "Restrain each other? How do you know this?"
"I’m an oracle. I saw the vision of the fight before it started," Agnus shrugged indifferently. "It wasn’t clear, but I know the crocodile managed to injure the plant. But in turn, it became bound tightly in the plant’s strongest vines and can’t break out. Untill now, they’re both at a stalemate, trying to heal faster than the other."
Leon was unnerved by the description, but he decided to set the details aside for now.
’It seems there’s no immediate danger regarding that place,’ He thought.
"How did you get to Tier Two so fast? I don’t think you have the strength to be able to kill Tier Two creatures," Leon said as he leaned back into the chair, arms folded.
A maid quietly entered, placed two steaming cups of tea on the table, and left without interrupting them. Agnus immediately picked his cup and took a sip.
"Ah, it’s been so long. Man, I miss tea."
Leon’s lips curled in amusement as he watched Agnus sip his tea eagerly. The young man had probably never set foot out of Marine Park since he had been born. He looked like someone born into farming and destined to spend his entire life on a farm.
Until the apocalypse started, that is.
Agnus finally set down the teacup and looked at Leon. "Ahem, sorry for the embarrassing display. I’m not some village bumpkin."
Leon nodded indifferently, clearly unconvinced.
The young man with shifting eye colors could only smile bitterly as he scratched his head.
"About your question. Yeah, I’m not strong enough to kill a Tier Two creature, and heck, I’ll probably die if I get locked on by a Tier One creature. As for how I grew so fast, it was mainly because of the technique Lord Ymir taught me."
Leon’s pupils contracted. ’A cultivation technique?’
Was this apocalypse trying to turn into one of those cultivation novels?
Ignorant of his doubts, Agnus continued. "It’s a technique that allows me to grow stronger by absorbing the Origin from soul crystals. Compared to killing beasts and leveling up, it’s a bit inefficient, and it doesn’t give extra stat points. Still, it’s good enough and I’ve been able to grow thanks to it."
Hearing this, Leon was shocked. Wasn’t that basically cultivation? Was it a Chinese apocalypse now?
Seeing that Leon was still doubtful, Agnus smiled and took out a Tier One soul crystal and held it in his hand.
"Watch."
He closed his eyes, falling into deep concentration.
Leon leaned forward, fingers crossed as he watched intensely. A few minutes passed in silence, yet nothing happened.
Just as Leon began to suspect Agnus was pulling his leg, his eyes slowly widened.
’This...? Is that mana?’
He was well aware that mana couldn’t be perceived with the naked eye, so his guess was probably wrong. Remembering Agnus’s words, he finally understood what he was seeing.
A faint stream of steam-like energy was being emitted by the soul crystal, and it was being drained hungrily by Agnus’s body.
’Origin...’
