Leon watched the process carefully, trying not to miss a single detail. He remained motionless, his eyes fixed on the fading soul crystal.

There wasn’t the slightest fluctuation of mana that could hint at ability activation.

Agnus was simply... absorbing something from it.

Leon replayed every second in his mind, searching for what he had missed. The breathing rhythm, the reaction of mana in the air, the movement of Origin. Yet no matter how many times he analyzed it, he found nothing.

His fingers unconsciously tightened. ’This isn’t an ability.’

That could only mean one thing—it was indeed a special technique.

After a few minutes, Agnus finally opened his eyes and smiled at Leon. "Did you watch well? I’m done."

He opened his palm and revealed the soul crystal to him. It was now colorless, lacking its usual yellow glow.

"This..." Agnus easily crushed it in his hand. "...is no longer useful."

Leon remained silent as the empty crystal crumbled like weak rocks. Soul crystals were usually indestructible. Yet, after losing its Origin, it could easily be reduced to dust.

That was a new information, though not entirely relevant.

"That technique. Can you share it?" He asked, raising his gaze to meet Agnus’s red eyes.

The young man gave a slight smile and shook his head. "Nahh, I can’t do that. It’s an exclusive property of Lord Ymir and he ordered me not to hand it over to anyone unless he says so."

Leon wasn’t surprised, as he had already guessed that the Higher Existence—Ymir—would want to use that as a bargaining chip to make him agree to the Patreon sponsoring.

Unfortunately, Leon wasn’t interested. Even if he wanted a Patreon God, he’d rather choose Thyra.

’Still, it feels cringe when they call themselves gods. They can be killed, no?’

He didn’t let his thoughts show on his face, and he simply nodded with an understanding expression.

"Oh. In that case, you don’t have to worry. You can keep the technique."

Agnus was shocked, and he couldn’t control his mouth from opening slightly. He was expecting Leon to immediately start pestering him for the technique.

Although he had downplayed its efficiency, the fact that he could use it to bypass evolution requirements was still there! Who wouldn’t be greedy for such a technique?

Especially a leader like Leon. If he conducted a large-scale hunt and killed a lot of Tier One beasts, he could always raise an army of strong evolvers.

Yet, Leon didn’t look tempted at all. It was as if he immediately lost interest after hearing that Ymir was involved.

’Is he only bluffing? Or he’s not going to risk accepting Lord Ymir as his Patreon God?’

Agnus was confused. However, he didn’t dwell on the feeling and shrugged internally.

’You do you. Sooner or later, you’ll fall for the temptation.’

Unknown to him, Leon was already planning how he would coax Thyra into telling him about that technique, and if possible, teach him.

The thought of the purple-eyed demon caused a melancholic expression to appear on his face. Although it had only been a few days, he was starting to miss Thyra’s constant presence by his side.

"Well, I’ll be calling you if I need anything else," Leon said, standing up from his seat.

Agnus also stood up, a respectful smile on his lips. "Thanks for the hospitality."

Leon nodded, then escorted him outside the Core Ring. He followed him to the courtyard assigned to the Marine Park survivors, secretly pleased.

It seemed Cassie or Fel already contacted Gwen and informed them about the situation. Knowing that the new additions seemed important but couldn’t be fully trusted, Gwen had allocated a building separated from the others and had placed stealthy evolvers around the place to keep an eye on them.

Agnus sensed this too but wasn’t bothered. Instead, he smiled and bid Leon farewell, then walked into the courtyard.

Leon lingered for a few seconds, then turned around and returned to the Core Ring. He didn’t go to the villa, but instead chose to go to Gwen’s office.

The young woman was still buried under a stack of papers, looking drained. However, when she noticed Leon entering, the exhaustion in her eyes vanished almost instantly.

Leon quietly offered her a chilled drink, then sat on the couch in her office.

"Thank you," Gwen said with a bashful smile as she accepted it.

She didn’t even inspect the bottle as she twisted the cap open without hesitation and drank deeply.

Leon blinked. "...You didn’t even ask what it was."

She lowered the bottle, looking confused. "Would you poison me?"

Leon opened his mouth, then closed it again.

He genuinely didn’t know how to answer that.

’She has quite a trusting heart...’ Leon thought, a little envious.

Keeping his thoughts unknown, he spoke coolly, "Today’s progress?"

Gwen paused drinking, covered the bottle, then looked at him.

"I sent Miguel and some workers to that Resource Wheel. We managed to get more raw materials, but we’re still studying their properties and uses."

Leon nodded, listening attentively.

"Also, regarding your request for scientists that could probably create a zombie vaccine, I already created a group. Four of them were co-workers from one of the best research institutes in America. Honestly, it’s our luck to find them all in this camp."

Hearing this, a glint flashed in Leon’s eyes. That number alone was astonishing. During the apocalypse, engineers, doctors, and scientists were more valuable than thousands of ordinary survivors.

Those people possessed knowledge that couldn’t be replaced by levels or statistics. If they truly managed to develop even a crude vaccine, humanity’s chances of survival would rise tremendously.

Leon was sure he wasn’t going to be disappointed.

Gwen went on and gave him a report of the other administrative assignments she had been doing, updating him on the settlement’s gradual development.

By the time she finished her report, the night sky had darkened, and the sun was gone. Thankfully, the camp now had stable solar electricity, especially throughout the Core and Inner Rings.

The small office was illuminated by bright light bulbs, making it clear for the two to continue their conversation.

"Leon, there’s something I’m planning, and I need your opinion," Gwen said, her expression serious.

Turning slightly, Leon leaned on the armrest and stared at her. "What’s that?"

She picked up a sheet of paper from the table and handed it to him.

"Since we’re effectively building a settlement, we need to build the hierarchical structure to have total order. This is what I have in mind, and I want you to check if you want to make any edits."

Leon received the paper, then browsed through it. He read slowly, and when he was done, he looked at Gwen.

"Hm, this is not bad. But I think we’ll need to edit some parts. Let’s work on this now."

Standing from his seat, he walked over to her and stood by her table. Gwen’s heart warmed, but she suppressed those emotions and focused on the task at hand.

Leon spent a few hours making adjustments while Gwen gave suggestions.

Some positions were removed, others were merged, and the rewards for contribution were increased while punishments for betrayal became harsher.

The hierarchy slowly transformed from a simple administrative proposal into the blueprint of an actual settlement.

When the two finally stepped out of the office building, the camp had long since fallen silent.
