World Evolution Apocalypse: I Possess The Extraction Ability

"Miguel," Leon said, his voice solemn.

Everyone’s eyes were fixed on the new arrival as it slowly made its way toward them.

Hearing his name, the blonde swallowed and answered, "Yes, Boss?"

Leon pointed at the approaching bear.

"You wanted to become Thor, didn’t you?"

Miguel’s expression slowly turned serious. "...Oh, shit."

Leon didn’t give him a chance to refuse. He gestured for the others to step back, leaving him to face the bear.

Leon was well aware that Miguel couldn’t kill the bear alone. However, he wanted to see how the burly young man would fare against the mutated beast.

’I didn’t expect to find a Tier Two couple here, though. Looks like we need to sweep through this forest today.’

If left unattended to, it wouldn’t take long for a beast to evolve into Tier Three, and that would be disastrous for the city.

Despite his earlier reluctance, Miguel lifted his hammer and faced the creature. His new weapon was a ball-peen hammer with one flat striking surface and a ball-shaped end on the other side.

His sharp eyes flashed with a cold glint as he shot forward, attacking the bear as soon as it got close.

The ground beneath his feet cracked, and the air trembled when he swung his hammer towards the bear’s face.

Boom!

Unexpectedly, it raised a hand and caught his blow with its paw, stopping all the momentum in an instant.

Miguel’s brows furrowed, but he wasn’t exactly shocked.

The bear’s strength was obvious.

Just as the beast prepared to swat his weapon aside and crush him, its arm suddenly trembled.

The sensation of being hit again was transferred through its flesh and bones, confusing it deeply.

After using his Impact Echo ability that had now been upgraded to Tier One, Miguel felt satisfied and pulled back.

Instead of having fifty percent of the original attack’s power, the echo now possessed sixty percent.

Although this didn’t seem to be a big deal, it was only because the bear was Tier Two. If it had been any Tier One creature, it would have folded on the spot. Or at least cracked a few bones.

Miguel had barely landed when he attacked again. This time, he went for the legs instead.

The bear noticed his intentions and attempted to stomp him to the ground. However, Miguel was smart. He spun mid-motion, building up momentum as he changed targets and struck at the looming front paws.

BOOM!

The recoil from the strike, combined with the force of the sixty-percent echo, knocked him to the ground, while the bear was thrown backwards, staggering as it tried to regain balance.

Miguel rolled to his feet, his gaze locked on the beast.

The mutated grizzly bear eventually regained its balance, glaring at him with pure hatred and anger.

’Hey, I didn’t kill your partner, you know?!’ Miguel wanted to shout at it, but held back.

He wasn’t here to complain. He was meant to fight.

The grizzly bear growled, and Miguel saw something that shocked him. The ground rumbled slightly beneath the bear, and layers of soil began to envelop its body, covering it in an earthen armor.

Miguel’s jaw tightened. The bear’s defense was already ridiculous.

Now he had to break through the earthen armor too?

It felt so unfair, but he couldn’t complain.

He didn’t need to, anyway.

Holding his hammer tightly, he activated the ability Leon had just given him, then channeled the lightning into his weapon.

The ball-peen hammer was enveloped in dark blue lightning, giving Miguel the image of a Thunder God. The only thing he was missing was a cape.

Sadly, he wasn’t going to be getting a cape anytime soon.

The ground cracked and splintered beneath him as he shot at the bear. In response to his charge, the beast roared and slammed its front paws towards him.

BOOOOM!!!

The collision sounded like a thunderclap, forcing the others to cover their ears and take a few steps back. Only Leon and the mutated crocodile remained unmoved.

Miguel was sent flying. He barely managed to regain his balance before slamming into a tree. Then, he looked at the bear.

The earthen armor covering its front legs was filled with cracks, and small chunks had even fallen off.

The bear seemed surprised, and lowered itself to the ground. The ground shifted once again, repairing the broken parts of its armor.

Miguel’s eyes narrowed, and he cursed. "This thing is a damned turtle. Not a bear."

Without another word, he shot forward again, activating Impact Echo and his new ability. This time, he was faster.

He reached the bear in an instant, then swung his weapon at its head. Surprisingly, it didn’t dodge, which made him confused.

Miguel didn’t think much about it and committed to the hit.

Suddenly, he felt a hand clamp down on his neck, and he was yanked back.

His eyes widened as he watched a thick earthen spike erupt from the ground, barely an inch from piercing him. If he hadn’t been pulled back in time, he would have had a nasty hole in his torso right now.

"Alright, that’s good enough. Let me handle it."

Hearing Leon’s voice, Miguel relaxed and stepped back.

Leon approached the bear with calm steps, his grip tight around his weapon.

"You’re very intelligent too, aren’t you?" He muttered, loud enough for it to hear. The beast had been cunning with Miguel and only acted after making sure he wouldn’t be able to dodge the surprise attack.

The bear snorted, eyes flashing with anger and hatred. Yet, Leon could see something else underneath—contempt and anguish.

"Seems there’s no reasoning with you, huh?" He muttered, taking one more step forward.

"We need a Tier Two soul crystal, so please... just die."

He suddenly vanished, reappearing right beside the bear. Without hesitation or flair, he thrust his spear straight at it.

The weapon glowed dimly as its enchantment activated.

BANG! CRACK!

Just as Leon had expected from a Tier Two weapon, the Titanbreaker Spear easily broke through the earthen armor and pierced through the beast’s tough hide, drawing blood for the first time.

Leon pulled back, distancing himself from the beast as he smiled. "So you bleed..."

In response, the grizzly bear roared furiously.
