The next morning, Leon woke up very early. Although a little reluctant to extricate himself from Marie and her daughter, he still slipped out of the bedroom.

After taking his bath, he, for the first time, wore an all-black formal attire and a black hat. When he arrived downstairs, he found Selene wearing the same thing as him.

They nodded to each other, then went out of the building.

The funeral was being held in a private section of the Inner Ring, where over two hundred monuments had been erected, each bearing the name of a fallen Evolver.

There was no one there yet, so Leon and Selene basked in the silence until she spoke.

"There will be more deaths in the future."

Leon stared ahead, memorizing each name in his head.

"I know."

Selene continued, "There will be those who die because they supported you."

Leon nodded quietly, repeating, "I know."

Closing her eyes, Selene placed a hand on his shoulder and said, "Don’t let the deaths crush your spirit. No matter what. For something new to be born, there will always be losses. The old world must perish before something new can take its place."

He glanced at her in surprise and nodded. "I’ll remember that."

Soon, other Evolvers began to arrive, assembling into a quiet formation that stood before the graves.

Family members and loved ones of the deceased also came and wept, putting flowers before their graves.

Finally, Leon opened his mouth to speak. He didn’t say any comforting words. Neither did he begin to recite a speech.

He merely closed his eyes and began calling the names of the deceased.

"Amanda Colton. Ethan Mitchell. Caleb Anderson. Nathaniel Brooks. Ryan Carter. Derek Sullivan. Jason Whitmore. Logan Bennett. Marcus Reynolds. Adrian Parker. Connor Hayes..."

He named every single one of them before saying quietly.

"... I will remember your names."

With that, he turned around and left the scene. Selene and the others who had joined after some time followed behind him, and they returned to the villa.

On their way back, Marie looked at Leon and asked, "Are we continuing the expedition?"

Leon nodded. "Yes. But Selene, Reymond, Miguel, Cassie, and Fel will be joining you."

Marie’s eyes widened. Even if there was a Tier Two enemy, wasn’t that lineup a bit overkill?

Cassie immediately disagreed. "I’m following you. Not them."

"You are to protect Fel, and that’s an order," Leon countered, not even sparing her a glance.

The young lady bit her lip and glared at him, but said nothing else. She understood that she couldn’t always be willful and disobey him.

"Uh... what about me?" Richard asked, pointing to himself.

Leon glanced at him and replied. "You’re going to stay back here in the camp. You’re not going anywhere."

"Aiit." He nodded, adjusting his glasses to sit firmly on his nose.

"It doesn’t make you look better," Miguel muttered.

"Shut up."

In less than an hour, everyone had dispersed just as Leon had instructed. Marie led the remaining three hundred Evolvers back into the forest, accompanied by Reymond and the others.

None of the Evolvers were reluctant about going back into the forest, as their grief could only be truly expressed if they slaughtered mutated beasts and grew stronger.

Watching them move into the forest from the city walls, Leon nodded, then turned to Selene.

"If there’s anything. Call me."

He waved the phone in his hand, then slipped it into his pocket.

Selene nodded and smiled thinly. "That’s assuming the phone doesn’t break."

Leon’s eyes twitched. "I’ll keep it in my storage ring, then."

"Then how will you know when I call?" She calmly raised an eyebrow.

"That..." Leon couldn’t find an answer. "I’ll be careful, then."

Selene’s smile disappeared, and she looked at him solemnly. "You better be."

Without another word, she leaped off the walls and rushed after Marie’s group.

"You..."

Leon watched her go with a speechless expression, then laughed lightly.

"Alright, I promise to be careful."

He quickly found an empty house in the Outer Ring, then wore an armor personally crafted by him.

Although it didn’t have any impressive enchantments, it still had solid Defense Power and Durability.

Before long, he also left the city, plunging into the deeper parts of the forest alone to hunt for Tier Two creatures.

Although he genuinely wanted to bring Swampy along, it was better for the creature to stay with Marie’s group.

He believed it wouldn’t attack any of them, as Leon had come to trust the beast after a while.

Leon had already told Selene to let Swampy handle any Tier Two creature that attacked them. Only if the crocodile was getting wrecked should they step in.

This was his way of making it up to the beast. After all, it hadn’t been able to hunt anything by itself since the previous day.

Just like that, hours passed, and as the sun began to set, Marie’s group returned without a single loss, and more than half of them carried corpses of mutated beasts from their hunt.

Surprisingly, their grind today had brought them much closer to Level 25, and Marie was sure that her mission would be completed by tomorrow.

When the main group returned to the villa, they were immediately welcomed by Gwen who was also just returning from her office work. After the official announcement of the city’s creation, her work had increased by several folds, and she had gotten even busier.

"Is Leon back?" Marie asked her.

Gwen shook her head. "Not yet. But he called me in the afternoon to ask a few things."

Cassie quietly stood up, preparing to slip away. However, Marie noticed and stopped her.

"Where are you going? Cassie, don’t let him get angry with you."

The young lady froze, then reluctantly sat down again.

Selene quietly pulled out her phone, then dialed his number. The phone rang for the first time, but there was no answer.

She called again, and this time, Leon answered.

"Where are you now?" She asked, not bothering with greetings.

There was a moment of silence, probably as a result of Leon being rendered speechless, before he answered.

"I’m on my way back. What about you guys?"

"We’re back already." She paused, then added. "You should return soon."

"Mn," Leon’s reply came shortly after, and she cut the call.

"He’s fine. And he should be back soon," She said to the others, then went upstairs.

Of course, she intentionally omitted telling them that his voice sounded strained. Leon definitely wouldn’t want anyone bothering him because they were worried.

This was his hunt.
