Time passed swiftly, and before long, the sun retreated. The moon took its place from the opposite direction, spilling soft silver light upon the land.

Leon stood by the window of his room, staring at the moon. He quietly wondered if there were going to be mutated beasts on the moon too.

Or if the other planets like Venus and Mars were at Phase One Evolution too.

Knock! Knock!

He turned his head to the door, and through the shadows, he could tell who it was. He smiled and said, "Come in."

The doorknob turned, and the door was pushed open. Gwen stepped inside, dressed in loose nightwear that once again failed to hide the voluptuous curves of her body.

At least it was decent enough, and had a cute charm to it.

She walked over to him, her expression bright. Seeing him stare at the moon, she quietly asked, "Do you love stargazing?"

Leon shook his head. "No, not really. I just felt like looking tonight."

Gwen nodded, her brown eyes sparkling.

"You weren’t able to contact your sister, right?" She asked, glancing at him.

Leon’s smile dimmed, but wasn’t erased. "Yeah. But her phone wasn’t connecting. Probably switched off or destroyed. What about you? Have you contacted your family?"

Gwen nodded, her gaze distant. However, a beautiful smile bloomed on her face.

"Yeah, I already texted my grandfather. He told me he’d send people to meet me when we arrive at the Newark camp."

Leon’s eyes widened. "You’re going?"

"No, dummy," She chuckled. "I’ve confirmed that he’s alive and doing well, including my cousins. I’m only going so he can know that I’m doing well too."

Leon’s eyes narrowed. "Wait, how are you so sure it’s him? And how is he sure it’s you and not someone pretending?"

She rolled her eyes. "Who’d dare pretend to be me?"

’Huh...’ Leon didn’t know she could utter such a statement, so he was surprised.

"Well, you haven’t met people who catfish a lot, then," He replied with a chuckle.

"Catfish? What’s that?" Gwen blinked, confused.

"Just a term used for people pretending to be who they’re not," He explained, turning toward her. "I guess you’re right, though. No one would dare pretend to be you. Your grandfather might just nuke them."

He expected to hear her laugh, but Gwen actually nodded with a serious expression.

"Yeah, he could."

’A yandere grandfather? What the hell?’

Although astonished, Leon kept his expression calm and didn’t let it show on his face.

"So you’re just coming with us to meet these people and say hi?"

Gwen nodded. "One of them is my cousin, and it has been a long time since I’ve seen him."

"Ohh..." Leon nodded slowly, suddenly wondering if he had cousins. He didn’t remember anything about his extended family.

"I’m coming to check out your sister too. I’m very curious about her," She added, her tone light, but mixed with something beneath it.

Leon caught on, but couldn’t understand. So, he just answered with a smile.

"Yeah, she’s a lovely one. I tell you."

Gwen stretched her arms, forcing him to tear his gaze away from her, then she said, "Well, let’s get the healing started, shall we?"

Leon nodded and took off his t-shirt, turning to face her.

Gwen spared a few seconds to admire his body, then placed her hands on his chest.

"Leon?"

The door opened, and Selene poked her head inside, startling the two. Her eyes landed on them, and she froze.

"Ah..." She blinked once, twice, then thrice. "Sorry for interrupting."

With quiet understanding, she pulled back and stepped out, closing the door behind her.

"W-wait! Selene!" Gwen hurriedly tried to stop her and explain, but her silver-haired friend had already left.

"Ugh..."

She groaned, burying her face in her hands. It was completely embarrassing!

Leon scratched his head, then sighed. "It’s fine. I don’t think she’ll run her mouth and spread rumors."

His words calmed Gwen a little, and she placed her hands on his chest again. The pale green flames ignited on her hands, and she immediately began to heal the second soul in his body.

Leon remained still, letting her ability work on him.

After ten minutes, Gwen’s mana reserves bottomed out, and she stopped.

"Alright, until tomorrow again."

Leon nodded with gratitude, putting his clothes back on.

After exchanging greetings, Gwen left to find Selene and explain the situation properly—at least she would try to.

Leon stood alone by the window, turning his gaze back to the moon.

’Clara... I’m already coming for you. Are you waiting?’

His heart was calm, but his eyes held so much longing that it threatened to spill out.

He remained in the same place for two hours, until he suddenly heard a sound in the distance.

He blinked, his ears tuning in to catch the sound better. It sounded like a wolf howl, but there was something eerie about it.

The sound kept changing, sometimes resembling a wolf’s howl and sometimes the desperate wail of an infant. Leon couldn’t determine what he was hearing.

Then, without warning, it stopped.

The sudden silence was somehow more disturbing than the sound itself. He immediately stepped outside the room.

Everyone in the building was already alert, and the main group quickly gathered in the living room.

Leon’s eyes narrowed. "Cassie isn’t back yet."

The atmosphere turned grim, but before anyone could say anything, Leon turned around.

"Stay alert. I’ll go find her."

Selene also stood up, her expression tight. "I’m coming with you."

"Why?" He asked.

Strapping her silver longsword to her waist, Selene answered. "Whatever that was, I don’t think it’s something you can handle alone."

Leon fell silent, then nodded after a few seconds. He turned to the others.

"Keep watch, and don’t make hasty decisions."

He immediately dashed out of the building, followed closely by Selene. Just like daytime, the streets were empty, and the entire place was silent.

Even the wailing sound could no longer be heard. The two Evolvers rushed through the streets while Leon dialed Cassie’s number.

The phone rang, but there was no answer.

Leon’s heart tightened. ’No, no, no, not another one...’
