Chapter 239: Nameless Parasite [20 GT Bonus Chapter]

The air twisted around the sphere of darkness, and in less than two seconds, it made contact with the fleshy abomination.

’This...’

Leon watched, his eyes wide in astonishment.

The sphere began to expand, quickly growing into the size of four trucks put together. It tore into the abomination’s body without resistance, then exploded from the inside.

The explosion was silent, but Leon could hear the ear-numbing vibration and the wails of agony from a thousand maws clearly. A large portion of the fleshy abomination burst open, and liters of blood spilled from the injury.

Then, something happened that left Leon in shock.

The fleshy abomination withstood the explosion without fully exploding into pieces, then began to close the wound.

It wasn’t regenerating, but it was actively pouring flesh into the wound, erasing the hole in less than a minute.

’It... it didn’t die...?’

Leon watched, his eyes wide. Even his strongest attack couldn’t kill it?

’So... Tier Three is really untouchable, huh?’

His expression was grim, and he lay down on the bus as they escaped across the bridge.

Fortunately, his attack had still done its job. Although the creature didn’t die, it was injured and forced to stop.

’Does that complete my evolution requirement?’

He hurriedly checked, then shook his head, smiling bitterly.

’It didn’t even acknowledge me as a predator, huh?’

He turned his attention back to the abomination. It had stopped chasing them and hadn’t stepped on the bridge, probably still reeling from the aftershock of his attack.

’Just go home and sleep, you rotten bastard.’

He cursed, then climbed back into the bus. His mana reserves were completely empty at the moment, and he was recovering slowly.

"Commander! Are you alright?"

One of the Titanbreaker warriors asked in concern, causing Leon to nod.

"Keep driving," He said, then found an empty seat to sit.

Immediately, a message from Selene came in. She asked him what he had done to stop the creature. After all, she also noticed how it had stopped chasing them.

Leon smiled weakly and replied with, "I nuked it."

He knew Selene must have been shocked, but she quickly replied and asked if it was dead. Unfortunately, the answer was negative.

After closing the phone, Leon closed his eyes and allowed himself to rest while thinking about the creature. It was unlike anything he had ever seen.

"... It’s a parasite. Huh?"

As soon as he said that, his eyes snapped open, and he looked around. Did someone say something to him?

’No... I said that myself. I’m sure it’s a parasite, but how do I know?’

He couldn’t remember Thyra telling him anything about parasites, nor could he remember reading about them in books.

He still didn’t understand what parasites were, even. The only thing he had was a strange confidence and unshakable belief that the fleshy abomination was a parasite.

’Confusing as hell...’

He frowned, then closed his eyes again. Perhaps he was overthinking it.

Unlike the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge, the Bayonne Bridge was easier to cross because it had fewer vehicles blocking it, and the zombies there were killed easily by ranged abilities.

After an hour on the bridge, the buses rolled off the Bayonne Bridge and into Bayonne.

Leon immediately noticed the difference. There were no skyscrapers, and no dense clusters of buildings.

Instead, enormous warehouses stretched along the waterfront, their rusted walls looming behind abandoned trucks and shipping containers.

It was strangely deserted too, but at least they could see a few zombies and mutated crabs on the shore some distance away from them.

The buses continued driving, leaving the waterfront and arriving at the residential area of Bayonne.

It was still nighttime, so they didn’t drive too far. After finding another apartment complex that could house then all, the buses were parked, and everyone got out.

Selene immediately approached Leon, her gaze scanning him from head to toe. After seeing that he wasn’t injured, she relaxed and said, "That thing was Tier Three, wasn’t it? That’s why it survived even after taking your attack."

Leon shook his head. "Parasites are much harder to kill. A normal Tier Three creature would have been injured gravely, but that bastard healed like it was nothing."

The ice-cold beauty raised an eyebrow in surprise. "A parasite? What’s that?"

"I don’t know either." He shook his head, then turned to look at the others who had gathered around him.

"We’re resting here tonight," He said, then turned to the Legion warriors. "A quarter of you will keep watch for the next three hours. Then another quarter will replace them till morning."

Before he could even start picking, forty people had already volunteered. Leon was pleased and assigned them to patrol the perimeters, keeping stray zombies away.

Thankfully, there wasn’t a horde here, so there wouldn’t be any real threat for the meantime.

"Let’s head inside."

The main group moved to the common room of the apartment complex while the other warriors spread out into the rooms to sleep.

"What do you think that was? Although I didn’t see it clearly, it was definitely something enormous," Miguel said, his expression tense.

Everyone had seen the titanic creature rolling towards them, but hadn’t gotten the chance to see it clearly.

At the mention of the abomination, Cassie’s fingers twitched, but she forcefully controlled herself. Fel quietly held her hand, helping her to remain calm.

"It’s not something we should worry ourselves with, right now," Leon brushed off the question. "Instead, we should be focused on where we are."

"Bayonne..." Gwen muttered, glancing at Selene. "We’re very close to New Jersey right now. Perhaps by tomorrow, we’ll reach there."

Leon also turned to Selene, expecting a reaction from her. However, there was none.

He didn’t say anything to her and continued, "I guess this only served to hasten our journey. Gwen, were you able to get any information on the situation in New Jersey?"

The young lady nodded slowly, her expression hesitant. "It was just a little, though. But I heard there were a few troublesome creatures there, and they contributed to the relocation of the camp to Newark."

Leon nodded, his gaze calculating. After a few seconds of silence, he stood up and spoke to the others.

"Everyone should get some rest. We’re moving out early tomorrow."
