World Evolution Apocalypse: I Possess The Extraction Ability
Chapter 249: A Dream ForgottenVery quickly, time passed and night arrived.
Just as Bliss promised, accommodation was given to the warriors of the Titanbreaker Legion, and they were able to settle in for the night.
As for the main group, they stayed in Mark’s villa.
The place was large enough to fit them all, and the man himself had insisted. There was little to no reason to refuse.
Leon stood at the entrance of his room, his forehead creased as he felt a brewing headache.
As he placed a hand on the doorknob, he paused and glanced behind him. Gwen stood in her purple nightwear, clutching a matching pillow with a cute expression on her face.
"Why are you so adamant about staying here?" He asked.
Gwen’s lips parted, and she stated her reasons like a speech she had memorized.
"The room I was given is too cold. I’m scared of getting attacked while I’m sleeping. After all, we don’t know which humans have bad intentions, right?"
Leon gazed at her clear brown eyes full of sincerity and couldn’t help but consider her words. However, he quickly stopped himself from being deceived.
"Why don’t you go to Selene, then? I’m sure she wouldn’t mind you staying with her."
Gwen shook her head. "Didn’t you hear what I said? I’m feeling cold. Isn’t Selene cold herself? You want me to freeze?"
Leon scratched his head and nodded. "That makes sense. Then what about Reymond? Or Fel?"
She rolled her eyes. "Reymond needs some time alone, right now. I don’t want to intrude on him and cause disturbances. Also, I’m not that close to Fel. I don’t want to disturb her."
Every one of her reasons made sense, which made it harder for Leon to find fault in them.
"Then... why me? What if you’re disturbing me?" He said indignantly.
Gwen blinked like she hadn’t thought about it, then answered, "I wouldn’t disturb you, I promise. I’d be on my best behavior. Besides, I also need to help you with Thyra’s soul. Leaving your room to go to another room at night would make people look at us suspiciously."
Leon scoffed in his heart. ’And sleeping the whole night in my room wouldn’t? Goddamn...’
He groaned. ’First it was Thyra, then Selene, then Marie, and now, you? You all just don’t want me to rest! Who the heck is sending you?’
Turning back to the door, he said with a low growl, "Fine. You can come in. However, don’t blame me for whatever happens to you inside."
He attempted to form the lewdest smile he could muster, making himself look scary and unnerving.
To his dismay, Gwen’s eyes actually lit up and she nodded. "Of course, I won’t blame you! I’m the one intruding, after all."
Hearing that, Leon gave up on any form of persuasion and opened the door with a helpless expression.
"Come in."
Gwen eagerly stepped inside, locking the door behind her. She scanned the room with Leon, nodding at how simple it was.
"This is good. Very good," She muttered.
Leon glanced at her, then took off his shirt. "Let’s start immediately."
Gwen’s body trembled, and she unconsciously bit her lip.
Leon pretended not to notice and sat at the edge of the bed. "I’m waiting."
Gwen immediately recovered and sat beside him with a serious expression. Then, she placed her hands on his chest and activated her ability.
Leon once again felt the burst of soothing warmth from the green flames, and he unconsciously released a breathy sigh as he closed his eyes.
The sound was loud in the silence, prompting Gwen to look at his lips.
’So... charming...’
She immediately looked away, though. Her gaze fell back to his torso, and she resisted the urge to look back again.
If she did, then she might not be able to stop herself from doing the obvious.
’That would be improper. Slow and steady wins the race.’
After about ten minutes, she felt her mana hit rock bottom and deactivated her ability to avoid a backlash.
Leon was a little disappointed when the soothing feeling disappeared, and he immediately opened his eyes.
However, seeing Gwen’s pale face, his disappointment vanished—replaced by concern.
"Hey, are you alright?" He asked tenderly.
Gwen nodded and climbed onto the bed. "I’m fine. Just a little tired."
She hugged her pillow tightly, burying her face in it.
Leon said nothing else and lay down silently beside her. He crossed his hands behind his head and stared at the ceiling.
’Parasites... what could a parasite be?’
He knew it wasn’t the parasite he knew and studied in biology. However, he still didn’t understand it. Also, he still couldn’t understand why he even knew the abomination was a parasite.
’Ugh. Mysteries are not really my thing. I should forget about it.’
Once Thyra recovered and could appear before him again, he would ask her.
’Tomorrow, we seal Cassie’s grandmother. The next day, we march for Jersey City.’
He couldn’t wait to reunite with Clara—if she was still alive. He didn’t think she was dead, though. He believed she was alive and doing well.
’Yes, she is.’
With that last thought, he fell asleep. Once again, he had a dream. This time, it wasn’t as unclear as the previous one.
In this dream, he saw himself running errands in what seemed to be a Victorian-era setting. He sold newspapers to strangers, collecting soul crystals as payment.
Suddenly, he looked up at the sky and saw flying ships appearing all over the world, each carrying an army of intelligent and powerful zombies.
The world was immediately engulfed in flames of war, and he woke to the sound of someone calling his name.
"Leon?"
His vision was strangely blurry, so he had to blink a few times before he could see clearly. Standing over him was Gwen with a concerned look on her face, and he noticed the sunlight streaming in through the windows.
’It’s morning already.’
His gaze shifted back to Gwen’s beautiful face, and he asked, "Yes? What’s wrong?"
She looked at him silently, as if stunned by his question. Was he seriously asking her that?
"You... why are you crying?" She finally asked.
Leon blinked and touched his face. It was wet with tears.
"I’m... crying?"
