"Why...?"

Leon muttered in disbelief. Why had he been crying? He couldn’t remember dreaming of anything sad. Did he even dream at all?

Seeing the confusion on his face, Gwen quietly exhaled and asked, "Maybe it was a bad dream?"

Leon’s brows furrowed. "I don’t remember... I think I had a dream, but I don’t remember."

Gwen frowned. "That’s quite normal, but given that it’s enough to make you sad, you should have remembered. Did you think about anything negative before sleeping?"

Leon shook his head, deeply confused. "The only thing I thought about was parasites..."

He paused, his eyes widening. That’s right! He couldn’t remember where he’d heard the term ’parasites’ before.. Could it be related to the forgotten dream?

Perhaps he had dreamt of parasites?

Suddenly, a flash of pain shot through his head, making him groan in agony. Right before his eyes, he saw a humongous warship descend from the sky.

The vision was brief, and he almost thought he had been imagining it. However, the burst of sorrow that followed was nothing he could imagine.

"Ahhh..."

He curled up on the bed, grabbing the sheets tightly as tears spilled from his eyes.

"Leon! What’s wrong with you?!"

Gwen panicked and immediately grabbed him, turning his face toward her.

"Why are you crying?"

He didn’t answer immediately, merely shaking his head as the tears rolled down uncontrollably.

"I... I don’t know."

Gwen sensed that something was deeply wrong. However, she decided to set that aside and hugged him.

Leon’s arms instinctively coiled around her waist as he buried himself in her bosom. He didn’t have the luxury to appreciate the softness and the scent, as his mind was being devoured by harrowing sorrow.

He clung to Gwen tightly while she brushed his hair, trying to comfort him. Five minutes passed, yet he was still crying.

Gwen almost couldn’t believe it. Why would someone cry over something they don’t know? She couldn’t help but think that someone had placed a curse on him or something.

’What to do...?’

Just then, she heard his cries subside and his grip on her loosened. She hugged his head tighter and asked, "Are you alright now?"

Leon nodded faintly, then reluctantly pulled away.

He knew he couldn’t stay like this forever. Besides, he was in no state to take advantage of Gwen.

Gwen cupped his cheeks and asked, "Do you know why you’re sad now?"

He shook his head, closing his reddened eyes. "I don’t. However, I think I’m understanding something."

Gwen waited for him to elaborate, but he said nothing. Knowing that it must be something private, she didn’t bother asking and stood up.

Her nightwear was already damp and clinging to her skin. Seeing it, she couldn’t help but wonder where all the tears came from. Did evolution increase the amount of tears a person could shed?

She didn’t ask, though, as it would be improper.

"You should get yourself ready soon. We’re going to capture Cassie’s grandmother, remember? Or do you want to delay a bit?"

Leon shook his head. "It’s fine. You should get prepared too. Tell the others to give me an hour."

Gwen nodded and stepped out of the room. There was nobody in the hallway, so she easily sneaked back into her room, avoiding any embarrassing encounter with someone else.

Leon sat at the edge of his bed, his eyes red and swollen. He rubbed them vigorously with his hands, somewhat reducing the swelling.

Exhaling a sigh, he looked at the screen before him.

’Song of Sorrow...’

He held his breath, staring at the screen in silence. Then, he covered his face and sighed.

’So many complicated things...’

Several minutes later, Gwen came downstairs to meet the others who were already waiting.

Instantly, Selene’s gaze snapped to her with seriousness. "Where were you? You weren’t in your room last night."

Gwen froze, but quickly regained composure and lied, "I couldn’t sleep so I went for a midnight walk. Why?"

Selene’s eyes narrowed, but she didn’t say anything else. She simply shook her head, choosing to remain silent.

"Where’s Leon, by the way?" Reymond asked, confused. Leon was usually punctual. His lateness this time was surprising.

"He’ll be here in half an hour," Gwen reported with a shrug. "That’s what he told me."

The others glanced at each other and remained silent. Leon was the leader and he could do as he wished.

Just as Gwen had said, Leon appeared in less than half an hour.

The moment he stepped into the large living room, everyone turned to look at him.

"Boss...?" Miguel sounded confused and bewildered.

Leon looked the same, but something about him was different. The faint smile he usually carried was gone, replaced by a solemn look.

"Yes?" He responded, his tone dry.

"What is wrong with you?" Selene asked, her voice cold and sharp just as her eyes were.

He turned to her, his expression flat. "Nothing. Are we all ready now?"

Sensing that he didn’t want to divulge anything, Gwen immediately answered. "We’re all ready. Let’s go."

She stood up and smiled at the others, gesturing for them to move out. The others knew something was wrong with Leon but since he wasn’t going to reveal it, they gave up asking.

Leon led them—including the Titanbreaker Legion—to the large gate of the camp where Bliss and half of the camp’s Evolver army were waiting.

Miguel’s eyes widened as he took a look at her, and he felt his heart thumping in his chest.

’What’s that? Am I scared of her or something?’

He clutched his chest and regained composure as soon as he could. Thankfully, nobody noticed his strange behavior.

Leon gave the woman a casual nod and asked, "Are we going by foot?"

She nodded. "Taking cars would be unnecessary since it’s not that far from here."

"Good."

Leon turned to his men and commanded. "Move out. Now."

"YES! COMMANDER!"

They responded with thunderous enthusiasm, following behind him with confident steps. Several hundred meters away, the zombies crowding the market stirred as though responding to the command of a hive mind.

Up above, the clouds darkened, and the sun was hidden behind them. It was as though the world itself were watching the impending battle between humans and zombies.
