World Evolution Apocalypse: I Possess The Extraction Ability
Chapter 259: Lightning And IceReymond attacked the creature. He slipped between the shooting blades of feathers, reaching the mutated chicken’s body in just a few seconds.
His blade came down on its neck.
White pristine feathers folded neatly against each other, and like a drop of water, the lightning-coated blade slid off them without dealing any damage.
The mutated chicken gazed at him with its sharp beady eyes. He instantly jumped back, but failed to escape completely unscathed.
Three feathers still grazed his arm, shredding the armor like paper and parting his flesh.
Blood poured from the wound, yet Reymond released no sound. Lightning crackled around him, and he once again attacked.
His body seemed to blur, with the world only registering him as a streak of blue light.
Clang!
He wasn’t fast enough. The mutated chicken shielded itself with its wings, even landing two blows that peeled away flesh from his shoulders.
Reymond recoiled with a terrible scowl. He glared at the creature, wondering why the damned chicken was so hard to kill! Was it retribution against the humans for slaughtering their kind during festivals?
He wasn’t given the chance to brood over the subject as several feathers came flying towards him. Once again, he easily dodged them, shivering as he noticed how the feathers tore through the ground behind him and sank in completely.
If even one of the feathers struck him squarely in the chest...
He didn’t bother finishing the thought. Such a situation could not be allowed to happen, and the only way to prevent that was to either run away... or slay the beast.
Activating one of his Class skills, he turned and attacked from a distance. As he brought his sword down from the sky, a bolt of lightning appeared above the mutated fowl and struck it directly in the head.
Boom!
The ground quaked, and the beast’s head was almost forced to the ground. Caught off guard, it had been unable to block the attack.
For the first time, Reymond saw its blood.
The large red crown on its head was shredded, and blood poured endlessly from the wound, staining its pristine feathers.
Reymond’s heart turned cold as he was suddenly overcome with fear. The mutated chicken’s gaze towards him had changed. For some reason he couldn’t explain, he felt the suffocating hold of death.
’I will... die?’
Feeling wind press against his face, he instinctively shot back. A sharp talon missed him by a few inches, merely grazing his torso instead of splitting him into two bloody parts.
From behind him, Selene appeared, her expression serious. "It’s stronger than it looks. Can you still complete the requirement if I help you?"
Smiling bitterly, he nodded. "Yeah. I guess it was foolish of me to think I was strong enough to handle it alone."
She didn’t comment on that and simply threw herself at the bird. With a sharp cry, its long neck shot toward her, its yellow beak opening for a vicious bite.
Selene’s eyes flashed coldly and she activated Frozen Steps. Without losing momentum, she skated around the beast and attacked its backside.
After observing it fight against Reymond, she had noticed something about the mutated chicken. Its body seemed flawless, especially with the steel-like feathers covering every inch of its body. Even the legs were protected by thick yellow scales.
’However, not all the feathers are hard. That is only a pretense.’
Her longsword, coated and sharpened with ice, easily sliced through the soft feathers on the bird’s rear, digging into the flesh and carving a deep wound on its body.
The mutated chicken released a sharp cry of panic and struck at her with one of its legs. Selene barely managed to dodge, putting some distance between her and the beast.
Reymond didn’t waste the chance, blitzing forward and appearing before its unprotected chest. He had been wondering why it had blocked his attack with its wing earlier.
Now, it made sense.
Slice!
Blood spurted from the wound and poured to the ground, but he didn’t have the luxury to even look at it. A sharp feather came hurtling at him, and he barely managed to raise his blade to block.
Clang!
Friction kept him from falling as he slid back several meters, his arms numb from the force behind the attack.
Tasting the blood in his mouth, he swallowed. ’Mutated beasts surely hit different.’
Without giving himself time to rest, he threw himself into battle again. Selene was already fighting against it, so how could he sit back and watch?
With a strange fire lit in his heart, he attacked the mutated bird with even more fervor.
Leon watched them handle the creature with a calm expression. The mutated chicken had proven stronger than they assumed, and it had almost killed Reymond. If he had been even a microsecond late, he would have been split into pieces.
’Once again, we can’t underestimate higher-tiered creatures,’ He thought grimly.
The situation had been reversed, though. With Selene joining the battle and exposing its weakness, the beast was forced into the defensive.
Reymond was fast enough to contend against its speed while Selene’s ice restricted its movements. With one of its advantages crippled, it could only resort to using its wings to block and attack them.
The fight became a blur of feathers, lightning, steel, and ice.
Leon watched patiently without interfering, as he didn’t want Reymond to fail his evolution requirement.
He wasn’t arrogant enough to think he should be the only one to reach Tier Two first.
His own evolution requirements were on another level, so he had pushed them to the back of his mind for now. Instead, he looked forward to seeing the people around him evolve further—most especially Selene.
Among everyone in the group, she was the most talented fighter, even more than Leon himself. Without his Martial Mastery trait, he doubted he could beat her in a contest of pure skill.
’Makes me want to see her grow and spar with her. Iron sharpeneth iron...isn’t that what they say?’
Walking towards him while dragging the corpse of the Tier Two mutated chicken behind her, Selene tilted her head in confusion at the intensity of his gaze.
For some reason, that look gave her goosebumps.
