World Evolution Apocalypse: I Possess The Extraction Ability
Chapter 269: Search For ThemSoon, Damien led them into the residential area of the camp. Most of them were stumped.
Eternal Night City was big. However, compared to this camp, it was nothing. The houses here were densely packed, and more houses were being built every day.
People roamed the large streets, all going about their daily activities. The atmosphere was lively and relaxing, making Gwen smile.
"Gwen, why are you covering your eyes? Did something happen?" Damien asked as he looked at his cousin. Seeing the blindfold, he initially thought she had gone blind.
However, she had proved him wrong several times by walking on her own or admiring the structures around them. Thus, he became curious. Why was she covering her eyes?
Gwen smiled and explained, "My Class affected my eyes a bit, so it’s better if it remains covered."
Damien slowly nodded, then chuckled. "I see. As long as you don’t become Medusa or something."
Gwen covered her lips and laughed.
After a few minutes of walking, they left the inner area of the camp and arrived at a relatively quieter section. Here, there were fewer buildings, but each one was luxurious and obviously built for people of a high status.
"This is where the camp officials stay, including the mayor and myself," Damien explained. "Come, let’s head over to my place."
His own villa was insanely luxurious and looked extravagant. However, neither Selene nor Gwen showed any surprise. Even Reymond acted normally. They were used to riches even before the apocalypse.
The living room was extremely large, with a pool at the center. There were a few young men and women playing in the pool, and when Damien appeared, they greeted him respectfully.
He greeted them back with equal enthusiasm and led his cousin’s group to a quieter area of the living room where they could sit and talk.
He made sure to sit with Gwen, his expression bright. "Okay, I think we should introduce ourselves."
He turned to Leon and the others he didn’t recognize. "I’m Damien Colt. What about you guys?"
Leon answered curtly. "Leon."
"Feline Auburn..." Beside him, Fel spoke with her head lowered shyly.
"Feline?" Damien was a little surprised by the name, but nodded and moved on.
"Bliss Morgan," The burly lady said to him.
Sadly, he didn’t recognize her despite her status, so he just nodded and turned back to Gwen.
"How did you get here? There are really so may things I want to know about your experiences!"
Gwen smiled and shook her head. "Not now, Damien. Keep your curiosity in check."
She tapped his shoulder, then continued. "Some of my friends here are looking for their family members in the camp. We need your help."
Reymond nodded. "Selene’s grandmother was in Jersey City before the apocalypse started. However, we don’t know if she moved with the camp in that city over to this place."
"Oh, I see... anyone else?" Damien asked, looking around.
"Leon’s sister—Clara Wayne. And if you have any news of my parents too. I caught no traces of them in Brooklyn," Reymond answered him.
Hearing the last part, Damien’s smile dimmed slightly. He glanced at Selene, then said hesitantly, "According to what gramps said, your parents went on a trip with Selene’s father before the apocalypse started. We haven’t heard from them since then."
Reymond’s heart tightened, while Selene’s eyes merely narrowed. She couldn’t help but wonder what reason that man could have to bring Reymond’s parents.
’What was he planning?’
She couldn’t find the answer, though. So, she dropped the topic.
Damien brushed his long hair and said, "So it’s basically just two people we’re looking for. Selene’s grandmother and Clara Wayne."
Everyone nodded, and the young man stood up.
He walked away to talk to one of the guys in the swimming pool, quickly sending him off to deliver a message.
While the young man walked away, Dainen returned. "It’ll probably take days, but I’ll make sure you get your answers."
Leon nodded and finally sighed. He wasn’t displeased by the wait. After all, it would be really hard to comb through a population of over one hundred and fifty thousand humans in search for a single person.
Damien sat down and smiled at them. "You guys are probably tired. Do you want to rest first or eat first?"
They all turned to Leon, waiting for him to answer. Damien was a little surprised, as he had thought his cousin was the leader of the group.
’Even Selene seems inclined to listen to him? Hmm...’
Leon tilted his head and looked at him. "How about a tour?"
"Oh?" Damien’s eyes lit up. "Great! A tour it is, then!"
He stood up and led them out of the building.
"You know, it’s really depressing when we think about the number of people that have died in these past two months."
His tone was unusually solemn, and his goofy grin was nowhere to be found. He looked at the buildings around them.
"What is left of humanity is just clinging to life and struggling to fight back. Sometimes, I just feel deep hatred towards the Star Stream."
They all listened without interrupting him.
"If the Star Stream hadn’t appeared, so many people wouldn’t have died. If it hadn’t appeared, so many things wouldn’t have happened." He sighed. "But, since it has appeared anyway, there’s no use moping around about it."
His smile slowly returned, and he turned to them. "We’ll simply protect what is left of humanity!"
"You’re right..." Gwen said with a small smile. "Protect the things you hold dear."
"That’s right!" Damien laughed.
Then, he began to show them around the camp. The general market where most civilians traded, the training grounds for the military, a mutated beast farm, and several other interesting structures that contributed to the stability of the camp.
"This must have required a lot of planning," Reymond said in awe as he looked around.
Waving his hand, Damien explained, "It actually wasn’t the mayor who did anything. It was him. Uh... Selene’s dad."
He glanced at her to ensure she wasn’t offended. Thankfully, she wasn’t. Instead, she was looking elsewhere.
"Him again? What’s with that man, by the way?" Reymond grumbled.
Just then, they spotted a group of three young people coming towards them with a middle-aged soldier walking behind them. The moment Damien saw them, his smile stiffened.
