Several hours later, Thyra lay in Leon’s arms, breathing slowly. Their naughty activities had been a little tiring, but nothing an Evolver couldn’t recover from easily.

Leon stared at the ceiling, his expression calm and filled with melancholy. He was trying his best to not overthink about Clara’s situation. He believed she was alive. At least, that was what he believed.

He wasn’t so sure. No matter how hard he tried distracting himself from the negative thoughts, his mind kept wandering back to them.

Closing his eyes, he brushed Thyra’s hair and asked, "Thyra, do you know what a parasite is?"

The woman who had been resting comfortably suddenly jolted up, raising her body as she stared down at him with wide eyes.

"Where did you hear that from?"

Leon shook his head. "I don’t know... I don’t think I heard it from somewhere. I simply know the name and I can identify one as well."

With a serious expression, Thyra straightened her back, straddling his stomach.

Leon’s eyes slowly went up, eventually landing on her face. He didn’t look down again.

"Perhaps you’re forgetting where you heard it," She said, as that was the only plausible explanation. "And since you already know about them, there is no restriction on telling you either."

Placing her hands on his chest, she started, "Parasites are... weak existences. They’re not even classified as a race. Well, until they are able to get a host, at least."

Leon’s eyes narrowed. It seemed his hunch was right.

"They don’t develop a symbiotic relationship with their hosts, though. In fact, there is no relationship. After all, they would completely gain control of the host’s body and kill them," Thyra continued.

Leon’s lips parted in surprise. "Like... possession?"

"Something like that, but irreversible." She nodded.

Leon’s expression turned grim, and he couldn’t help but remember that fleshy abomination. No wonder it looked so bizarre.

’Damn it. Zombies are already enough trouble. But parasites too?’

He released a frustrated groan. "So can they be killed?"

Thyra nodded. "Outside their host, they’re incredibly weak. Even a child can squash them beneath their feet... as long as the child doesn’t have an open wound for them to enter."

Leon slowly nodded. This was good information, right?

Observing his expression, she continued. "But once they have a host, they’re pretty hard to kill. You might cut the host to pieces, but they can escape to another host if you don’t pay enough attention."

"Nice," Leon grumbled. "So you need to kill the original thing, and you mustn’t get injured while fighting them. Easy peasy."

Thyra felt amused by his expression and tugged at his nose. "Parasites are even more hated than your... zombies. No race can escape them if they aren’t strong enough."

"So they can enter someone as strong as you?" Leon asked, stunned.

"Well, not just any parasite." She shook her head. "It has to be incredibly old. Those kinds of parasites are very rare."

Leon sighed in relief. "Well, at least you’re out of danger."

Thyra smiled lovingly, but the smile soon disappeared. "About your sister... what are you going to do?"

Leon’s expression cooled too, and he was forced to confront the issue that had been bothering him.

"I’ll have to put the search for her on hold for now," He said, sounding heavily conflicted.

It was a choice he wouldn’t have made before, but the situation called for it. Even Thyra felt surprised.

"Why?"

Shaking his head, Leon explained, "You said it yourself. Phase Two is approaching. My strength won’t be enough. That thing in Staten Island won’t be the only Tier Three creature on earth by now. I can’t afford to remain weak."

"You..." Thyra’s eyes narrowed, but she couldn’t say anything.

"I’ll trust Clara to survive. Since she didn’t become a zombie, then I believe she can survive for a while longer." Leon said, more to reassure himself than to her. "That’s why I’m going to finish the evolution requirements as soon as possible, and then come find her."

She nodded slowly, then settled back in his arms. "You can do it. I believe you. I’ll be by your side to help you."

Leon shook his head. "Not on this one."

Thyra froze, her head snapping to look at him. "What?! Why?"

Leon met her gaze calmly. "You’re not coming with me, Thyra. I know it’ll be dangerous, which is exactly why you can’t come. I’m not risking the possibility of you throwing yourself into danger just to protect me again."

"You idiot. Do you think I’m that reckless?" She glared at him, pursing her lips.

"Yes, you are." Leon rolled his eyes. "You have to trust me on this."

Thyra turned away from him, hiding her expression. "You moron. We just met again and you want to get separated so soon?"

Shaking his head, he wrapped his arms around her. "No, just think of it as me going on a business trip. It won’t take too long, I guess."

Thyra hummed softly, then raised her head to look at him. "When are you going?"

Leon spoke like he had already made up his mind. "In a day and some hours, I guess. I have some preparations to make."

She nodded slowly, then her eyes curved into purple crescents. "Since we only have a short time left... let’s make use of it properly."

The next morning, Leon appeared at breakfast with dark circles under his eyes. He looked terribly drained, and anyone could easily notice.

"What happened to you? Insomnia?" Selene asked sarcastically.

Leon gave her a look that said, ’you won’t understand’, and turned away. Sitting farther away from him, Gwen quietly hid her trembling hands.

’Did they... all night long?’

Her innocent mind frayed, unable to accept such a thing. She wanted to look for Thyra, but feared that she would once again stumble upon an indecent scene.

’Wait... if they have been together since it all started... have they always been that naughty?’

Her face reddened, and she quietly lowered her head. Sitting next to her, Reymond tilted his head in confusion.

Was she burning up?

He tapped her arm and asked, "Are you alright?"

She nodded quickly, trying to regain her composure as she ate. Unknown to Gwen, Thyra was standing right behind her with a devilish grin on her face.

’Little sister, you’re still too green to play this game with me.’
