World Evolution Apocalypse: I Possess The Extraction Ability

Gravity.

The very first thing Leon felt as soon as he crossed into another world was the doubled gravity.

His knees buckled slightly, and he released a strained grunt. Looking around, he was in what appeared to be a burnt forest. Ashes were scattered across the ground, and the smell of smoke lingered in the air.

The trees were black and dried up without leaves. Only their branches stretched awkwardly toward the sky.

Leon slowly adapted to the gravity, then turned to look at the spatial crack right behind him.

Before he could turn completely, something slammed into him, and he fell to the ground.

"What the hell?"

He quickly rolled away and glanced at it. His eyes slowly widened. "Selene?"

The young woman lay on the ground, her expression strained as she tried to push herself up.

’Is it that bad?’ He asked himself.

Only after a few seconds did he realize why he was doing alright. His Adaptation Trait had kicked in, and he had gotten used to the planet’s gravity. Selene didn’t have such an advantage.

Even in terms of physical power, she was weaker than him. It was only natural for her to struggle this much.

The spatial crack had already closed, so Leon ignored it. He walked towards Selene and helped her up.

Selene stumbled slightly, leaning against him. After a few seconds, she released a sigh of relief, then asked, "Where is this place?"

Leon’s lips twitched. So she didn’t even know.

Rolling his eyes, he joked, "We’re on Mars."

Her eyes widened in shock, then narrowed in suspicion. "Since when can you open portals to other planets?"

"Since I started walking, I guess." Leon looked at her. "Can you stand on your own now?"

She shook her head. "Not yet. I probably need a few more minutes to adjust. Maybe I should sit."

"No, you should keep your core farther from the ground if you want to adapt faster. Sitting will only make it worse." He argued, stopping her from sitting.

Glancing around, he spotted a large tree nearby and helped her towards it.

"Here. Rest your back on this."

She did as he told her and leaned against the tree. She felt slightly relieved and wiped the sweat on her forehead.

Looking at her condition, Leon thought, ’No wonder Gravity Room Training is always important in novels, anime, and movies. I see...’

Selene sized him up and said, "You seem to be doing fine. Is there a method?"

"No, there’s none you can use." He rubbed his nose, then looked at her irritably. "Why did you follow me? I didn’t know you had a thing for stalking people."

Ignoring the jab, she answered calmly. "I know you have a fair amount of bad luck and always attract stronger creatures. That’s why I followed you."

Leon blinked at her. "What... you want to protect me?"

She gave him the stink eye and shook her head. "No, idiot. I want to kill them. My evolution requirements."

Rubbing his chin, he nodded. "Oh... that makes sense."

Then, he glanced around them. There were no creatures in sight.

"I don’t think I’m as unlucky as you think I am."

Having adjusted a bit, Selene pushed herself off the tree and looked around too. "Trust me, you do."

After a pause, she asked, "What is this place? And how did you manage to get here?"

Leon folded his arms and answered, "It’s a part of my requirements. Getting something from another planet. As for how we got here, ask the Star Stream for the coordinates."

She ignored the sarcasm at the end and sighed. "Can you leave at will?"

"Probably not." Leon shook his head. "I think I have to complete the requirement first."

Selene quietly facepalmed. "I think I’m starting to regret following you."

Chuckling, Leon walked past her. "Too late now. Let’s check the area."

He had been initially displeased that someone had followed him. However, he quickly accepted it and adapted. Any kind of help was welcome. And Selene was the strongest ally he could have asked for.

The two of them walked around the forest, having no clues where they were. After a while, they got tired of searching and simply decided to go straight until there was a change in their surroundings.

Surprisingly, it didn’t take long before they left the burnt forest. The land ahead was a vast patch of greenish-yellow grasses that reached halfway to their knees. Leon tried plucking a single blade of grass and immediately winced. It had almost cut his hand.

Thankfully, their boots and shins were durable enough to ignore such sharpness.

"Let’s keep moving. We haven’t seen anything yet."

Selene shook her head. "No, I can hear something."

As soon as she said that, Leon heard it too. A low, raspy growl. His head snapped towards the sound, and his lips parted in surprise.

It was a zombie, but a little different.

Its eyes were yellow, and it had a lifeless look on its face. The zombie hunched its back, staring at them intensely as it moved through the grassland, slowly inching closer to them.

"An alien zombie?" Selene muttered in disbelief.

The zombie had light blue skin, long, pointed ears, and a small, flat nose. Other than that, it looked pretty much like any normal human male.

Unlike Earth’s zombies, though, it was completely naked, leaving its rotting body exposed.

Selene turned away in disgust. "You handle it."

Leon’s eyes twitched, and he gave her a sidelong glance. "That thing is Tier Two. Aren’t you the one who wants strong opponents? Do the honors."

Before Selene could reply, her expression changed, and she rapidly unsheathed her sword.

Clang!

Skidding backwards through the field of grass, she stared at the zombie with a grim expression. Sprouting from its hunched back were two ugly tentacles with sharp fang-like structures at their tips.

Leon frowned slightly, his Titanbreaker spear already in his hand.

"This thing is pretty revolting. I guess we can’t underestimate a Tier Two zombie, after all."

They exchanged a single glance, then moved. Leon went first, with Selene following closely behind him.

Together, they came upon the zombie.
