World Evolution Apocalypse: I Possess The Extraction Ability

Bang!

Leon crashed into a tree before falling on the ground heavily. His limbs ached and bled. Pushing himself off the ground, he spared his condition a bit of attention.

His Will Combat Armor had offered no resistance to those attacks, letting them hit him easily. Thankfully, his own body was strong enough to avoid being cut into pieces.

His Adaptation Trait also began to heal him rapidly, and if he could rest for a minute or two, the injuries would be completely healed.

Sadly, he wasn’t allowed to rest.

After knocking him off its back, the insect had turned back to Selene and was ready to kill her.

The young lady wasn’t hopeless, though. Activating Frozen Steps, she barely managed to dodge an attack that would have taken her head off.

Her shoulder still got torn, though, with the injury reaching her bones. She winced and distanced herself from the creature.

Even before she blinked, it was right before her again.

Her heart tightened, and she hurriedly spammed ice spikes.

The insect tore through the barrage of magical attacks, tanking them easily and reaching for her with its front legs.

Snorting, Selene erected an ice shield in front of herself and immediately used Frozen Steps to escape again.

Crash!

The insect shattered the ice shield effortlessly, then turned towards her. Her expression darkened.

As it moved to intercept her, a flash of light suddenly appeared above it, and Leon dropped on its back—at least he tried to.

Having learned its lesson, the insect dodged, making him drop to the ground.

That didn’t mean Leon missed, though. Activating Shadow Execution, he drove his spear into its shadow.

The insect stiffened and raised its head, releasing a broken scream of agony. It immediately moved away from Leon, cancelling the skill since its shadow was further away.

Leon didn’t chase after it. Instead, he rushed to Selene’s side, and they faced the creature together.

"How bad are your injuries?" She asked.

Glancing at her shredded shoulder, Leon shook his head. "I should be asking you that. Can you still fight?"

She hummed softly, then raised her empty hand. A thick ice spike the size of a human being appeared above her, radiating a chilling mist.

Her face paled as she felt her mana drain rapidly.

"Force it into the path of my attack."

The moment she spoke, Leon vanished and reappeared beside the creature. He slashed at its side, and it responded by casually pushing back his spear with a leg.

He slid back slightly, then pierced its shadow again. The insect screamed in agony and pulled away from him. As it did, it suddenly felt cold and turned its head.

Bang!

The ice spikes fell on its back, piercing through the plates of chitin and severing it into two parts.

With a pained scream, it collapsed in two parts. Leon sighed in relief, then tensed.

’It isn’t dead yet.’

He quickly flashed to Selene’s side, and they exchanged glances. "No message either?"

Selene nodded. She turned back to the seemingly dead insect, looking at the head.

"It can’t be... a parasite?"

Leon’s expression hardened, and he raised his spear. Using all his strength, he threw it at the creature.

Bang!

The spear pierced into its head cleanly, even exploding a portion of the head. Only then did they finally receive the message, confirming that it was actually a parasite.

"That thing seemed indistinguishable from a normal mutated beast. Does that mean they are intelligent?" Selene muttered, feeling uneasy.

Leon also felt uneasy. If the parasites could enter the body of a highly intelligent lifeform, then they would be intelligent too.

’What a mess.’

He grunted and walked over to the corpse. Pulling out his spear, he used it to dig out the soul crystal and examined it.

"The quality is really different. Not bad," He tossed it to Selene for her to observe before crouching to pick up the dropped rewards.

Although the Star Stream rarely rewarded them for killing Tier Two creatures now that they were strong enough, Tier Three was a different matter entirely.

If they hadn’t been careful, both of them could have lost their lives. Leon picked up the treasure cube and broke it. To his surprise, it wasn’t equipment. Instead, it was actually a healing balm in a small container.

He sighed in relief. This solved their problem of not having a healer with them. Glancing at Selene, he observed her wound.

Her snowy white skin had been torn and looked red, with blood slowly pouring from the wound. Even though she was healing naturally, it was still going to take a long while.

He tossed the balm to her, and she caught it easily.

"Oh..." Her lips parted. "Thank you."

Leon nodded and picked up the other reward. It was an ability scroll.

[Ability: Tier Two Beast Buff - When used, the strength of tamed beasts is increased by 20%. Duration depends on user’s mana capacity.]

Leon immediately kept the scroll, as the ability would be much more suitable for Richard to learn. Selene didn’t question him about the scroll. She turned around and began applying the balm to her wound.

Taking advantage of that moment, Leon sneakily activated Extraction and pulled out the only ability inside the dead creature. He didn’t forget to steal its memories too, as he needed to properly understand where he was.

He stored them away, then stood up. "There’s a small cave down there. It probably belonged to this creature, so it should be safe, I guess."

Selene turned to him, her eyes narrowing. After a moment of hesitation, she followed him. Soon, they arrived at the dark entrance of the cave and stopped.

"A snake won’t suddenly come out and scare us, right?" Leon joked nervously.

Selene shot him a glare and tried to see through the darkness. However, it was difficult. Leon shook his head at her and took out a torchlight from his storage ring.

Switching it on, he pointed it at the cave. Instantly, the interior of the cave was clear for them to see. They both sighed in relief.

There was no dangerous creature in there, waiting for them.

"I guess we can stay here for a while."

A few minutes later, they sat deep inside the cave, with a bonfire lit between them. Leon had brought the grilled mutated chicken meat with him, so they didn’t need to worry about going hungry.

Eating the last bite of her own portion, Selene set down the plate and looked toward the entrance.

"Thanks to your bad luck, I’m now ready to evolve into Tier Two."
